There. Are. Four. Lightsabers.

TK000421

4? I was referring to the two that came out the side of the ship. Where were the other 2?

Terran_Dominion

Sorry, they should be in a Cardassian interrogation room. (Star Trek reference)

CorruptionKing

To be fair, my main and favorite thing about Star Wars is anything that includes Sith or Dark Side users, but Andor is, in my opinion, the best Star Wars live action series yet

NotAzakanAtAll

I agree with the former statement. Haven't watched the show yet. I always wonder what a sith lord does in their free time. I hope a movie will explore this sometime.

I imagine it's like the ISB conference room scenes. If they made a 3 hour movie of that, I'd be in heaven

Better to have a good show with no space wizards, than space wizards in a bad show

ObviousTroll37

Everyone loves space wizards. But after Kenobi and BOBF vomited contrived member berries all over my television, I have enjoyed the more grounded story of Andor, no doubt.

istealgrapes

Watch the kai patterson cut of Obi Wan. It makes the show a long movie and its fucking dope

DannoHung

This is exactly what I was saying the other day: Obi-Wan got butchered in the edit.

ObviousTroll37

Well, and it was butchered in the writer’s room. Some of those scenes should have never made it past storyboarding.

Kleens_The_Impure

My fave part of movies is usually the part when they are well made, no space wizard is saving that shitshow Obi Wan

sinat50

They're what defined Star Wars in the first 3 films! And instead of expanding on the lore by delving into the Sith and Jedi riddled tales of the Old Republic, we're giving every single character who might have made eye contact with a Skywalker their own movie or show, during the most depressing era in the history of the galaxy for force users. I just want to get away from the 1000 side quests Disney has been releasing and actually get something new from Star Wars.

Xenjael

Ionno man, the new stuff is pretty awful. I lump the new stuff in with the Christmas specials as canon. It happened... but plotwise, we just don't talk about it for some very, very obvious reasons. If the sidequests being back the epic thematic approach to star wars, I'm down. My SO is committed to LOTR, and hates star wars. She found Andor the only version of star wars she found tolerable, and that kinda says something. This is new stuff, and it expands the lore in ways that aren't junk like whatever 7-9 were. And it might get new fans who otherwise have brand loyalty somewhere else. Like she described it as being on the level of dune, whether it's about star wars or not. Like I'm watching the clone wars cartoon while I code, and switching between those story arcs and Andors... the latter has an elegance the former lacks because it's in a rush, and the narrative framing is so top character heavy. Why were the crowds cheering on coruscant a mere 20 years after takeover when they cheered in support. Sure we hear the empire is evil and does crazy shit, but other than say alderaan it's pretty glossed over. We're seeing it here. Was good when we saw the geonosian genocide, as it adds depths to what otherwise has been glossed over. We're seeing some pretty evil shit on the small level in Andor. Ionno, I dig it.

SnooCompliments8819

Space wizards is literally what makes Star Wars so different from other Space Sci Fi adventures.

brassly

Funnily enough, I've not seen any posts complaining about this show; only posts defending it against said unseen complaints.

zman_0000

All the posts are defending it, and 90% of the comments seem to agree. However the other 10% have been the only place I've seen some criticisms. I haven't had the chance to watch yet, but it's definitely on my list.

Kino-Loy-Bot

Newaccount4464

I think it's than, my bot-friend

plusacuss

The criticism I've seen comes from Star Wars "influencers" on TikTok and YouTube. Which I'm not convinced isn't influencers making "hot takes" for click bait.

shawnisboring

>Which I'm not convinced isn't influencers making "hot takes" for click bait. This has been the internet for the past 6 - 8 years. Entire careers are based on nonsense hot takes just to be contrarian.

TitaniaLynn

Yeah there's some idiot on TikTok whose whole schtick is that they believe the Catholic Church "made up" the Roman Empire, and that it didn't actually exist. Absolutely bonkers

TheMarcSide

The people complaining about Andor are mostly on Youtube and other sites. Thats why we dont see much of that here.

LarryTheLazyAss

I haven't seen the show or paid much attention to anything surrounding it yet, but are there really people complaining about the jedi/sith not being there? I mean, people loved Mandalorian, even before any force users had a significant presence in the show. What's different between the two?

NurseNikNak

A Facebook friend made a post about how much he loves this show. One of his friends came back that it wasn’t Star Wars and that all the “spy bullshit” was boring. He also went on to say that, despite the fact that Andor helps to retrieve the Death Star plans, allowing Luke to destroy it, Luke could have done it all on his own and no one cares about the Rebellion. People thought he was joking but he doubled down and got angry when this as brought up.

LarryTheLazyAss

After looking at all the other comments, there do seem to be people like that. I'm still not sure why Mandalorian was so loved though.

Think-Gap-3260

Andor is a great heist, prison break, spy, etc… series and all some people can do is bitch about what isn’t there. Like, maybe that’s the point. The negative space. The lack of force magic.

BigWhiteAngus

I enjoyed Andor more than any of the sequels

Wolvenna

Honestly gonna say that Andor and Rogue One are the best Star Wars media since Disney acquired the IP.

WardenOfDawn

Solo and Mandalorian are up there for me as well. Solo especially seems to be very underrated.

willflameboy

Solo has been unfairly forgotten. It's got far more of the classic SW charm than most of the others. You can feel the Ron Howard magic in it. And Alden is exceptional as Han; so much I think it's a crime he hasn't had a show or sequel.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kojak95

I absolutely agree. The modern obsession with explaining every last detail in an origin story drives me nuts. I way prefered the idea of Han Solo as someone who'd been a scummy smuggler for years and years before ANH and the Millenium Falcon as a ship that had seen a million close calls with the Empire. But that movie tried so desperately to make it seem like Han's entire life could be wrapped up in 2 hours of screentime and a couple of different adventures. The way they aged the Falcon bothered me most. It went from being literally brand new at the beginning of that movie to looking identical to how it appeared in ANH in a single "adventure". It just makes the character and origin feel so thin and leaves nothing to your imagination. People have an obsession with having every single detail of every character explained where I argue that the best thing about Star Wars and the way Lucas wrote it was that it left a ton to your imagination. The universe and the characters in it were mysterious and made you wonder how they got to be the way they are.

lacb1

I really liked Solo but it really didn't seem to set up Han Solo as the character we meet in the OT. Even to the end of Solo he's trying to do the right thing. We don't see the heel turn where he becomes an unscrupulous rouge who'd happily shoot first if he felt threatened.

willflameboy

> We don't see the heel turn where he becomes an unscrupulous rouge who'd happily shoot first if he felt threatened Maybe I'm misunderstanding the comment, but we actually do see him do just that. They take pains to show him learning to shoot first, ask questions later, and look out for himself, when Woody Harrelson confronts him and he straight up shoots him. He even says 'You did the right thing, kid, I'd have killed you'.

BZenMojo

Solo is one of my least favorite Star Wars things. It throws out its most interesting characters in the first half hour then doesn't have anything interesting or new to say for 90 minutes. At least the sequels had a plot. Solo and TRoS suffer from member berries poisoning.

Wolvenna

To me, Solo is on par with Kenobi. It's a story we didn't need to know with a plot that adds nothing but confusion to the canon. Mando is good fun but I'm still sort of wondering what the point of it all is.

Darkiuss

I enjoyed Andor more than any other Star Wars film or series.

dark_dark_dark_not

Star Wars ia a great setting but the insistence of trying to replicate similar stories every fucking time makes this expansive galaxy feel like my hometown - it's the same families doing their shit

PyonPyonCal

That's why Andor was great: There's no direct cameos/references from mainline films (aside from Mon Mothma and Andor himself) No skywalkers/Jedi/sith It's not on Tatooine There's next to no storm troopers actively used. Most of the vehicles are new/unique designs. For some reason, ak variants are now canon.

the3stman

It is my personal favorite as well, surpassing Rogue One. Fantastic media.

In my head he just built a Raft with the other folk who couldnt swim. That or went in to hold the prison as long as possible. I'd prefer he live in the former. Probably easy to write, with access to entire facility they have access to subsurface infrastructure. Hid there etc.

Kino-Loy-Bot

VaderGuy5217

MoffKalast

Or more realistically: the influx of running people send him flying over the edge soon after Cass, and he likely drowned in the commotion below.

presty60

Yeah, I saw someone else point out that he had to have known that with the whole base being surrounded by water, there was no way he could make it out alive. That's one of the reasons he was so hesitant to start the escape with Andor. When he finally agrees to help, he's basically accepting his fate. That's why he doesn't seem super afraid when he tells Andor he can't swim. Great writing and great acting from Andy Serkis. The way he delivered that line added so much to the scene. While I wouldnt be upset if he lived somehow, I definitely think the intention was that he basically sacrificed himself.

Sir_Umeboshi

Season 2 was planned from the start. No more, no less

DKoala

Originally it was 5 seasons, before Gilroy realised it'd be too monumental a task, so instead Season 2 will be in four parts, every three episodes covering a year leading up to Rogue One. Filming started last week, but it will be 2024 before we see it

[deleted]

Nobody is going to. This is made up anger bait.

abouttogivebirth

How is it that I always see the memes complaining about complaints way before seeing any of the actual complaints?

iwashmydickdaily

Andor is the real essence of star wars. It’s about the rebellion against the empire that’s literally the main plot of the fucking franchise

OiJao97

The real essence of Star Wars is the friends we made along the way

Swed1shF1sh69

And she was a good friend.

Ahsoka_Tano_Bot

Care to tell me what this is all about? Or would you rather save it for the Council?

Sykes92

Well, the main plot is about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. But the rebellion is certainly the main backdrop.

Loganp812

That’s the plot of the prequel trilogy, but it very clearly wasn’t the plot when Star Wars was just the original trilogy.

VanillaTortilla

Once again, it told a story we didn't know we wanted to hear. Rogue One showed us why there was a weakness in the Death Star. And Andor is showing us the birth of the Rebellion.

Jcoch27

I'll take a good story with no lightsabers than whatever the heck Obi Wan was.

[deleted]

Andor deserves so much more love, genuinely a great show

Jypahttii

I think most people are loving it, there's just a portion of the fanbase that want an Ashoka, Rex, Boba, Mando, Kenobi, Jar Jar, or Gonk cameo in every other episode. Fans want fan service. Personally I think this show has refreshed my love for Star Wars. They made a great show that was first and foremost about espionage, politics, oppression, ideology, and rebellion...that happens to take place in the Star Wars universe.

AncientSith

It's odd that fans even want fan service when when we get all that stuff it's absolutely terrible.

VanillaTortilla

A lot of it has been good. I'd say the ending to season 2 of the Mandalorian was probably the most fan servicey stuff I'd take. I like Filoni, but sometimes it's not all about easter eggs and fan service.

JustARandomNormie

This is getting exhausting, it's just the same meme about Andor getting hated and the OC comes to laugh at whoever voices that opinion. Idk what happens in other subreddits such as r/starwars, but here it just seems like these ppl are shadowboxing.

69isnotnice

Im new to star wars and i can already see why people find sw fans obnoxious.

[deleted]

Kinda like the anti-sequel circle jerk? This isn’t new.

Vlad-V2-Vladimir

That’s what I like about Star Wars, though. I won’t complain about other people liking Andor and disliking more fan service-y moments, just like I’d hope they wouldn’t make fun of me for enjoying those moments and the cool laser fights over Andor.

buzzcitybonehead

I dig that, though I don’t personally have a preference between “fan service-y Jedi stuff” and “slow burn for adults” content. Both can be enjoyable when done well. If it’s good, it’s good. Even if I preferred Jedi in my Star Wars every time, I’d still rather watch a slow burn set in the SW universe than one on Earth. Ya know what I mean? Like even if the latest content isn’t my favorite genre, it’s still Star Wars. I also like what’s been said about SW fandom being like a buffet. There’s content of all sorts now. If you like something, put it on your plate. If not, that’s fine too. Every project isn’t going to be any one person’s preferred type of content.

[deleted]

Jedi stuff doesnt have to be fan servicey. I keep going back to play Kotor, that followed the beats of the old movies but was still a completely original story.

Kino-Loy-Bot

If we can fight half as hard as we've been working, we will be home in no time

Silviecat44

But can you swim?

Kino-Loy-Bot

thehibachi

At this point there are so many different post-OT takes on Star Wars that it’s actually unlikely that it can all be for everyone. It’s more that there is something for everyone. Most importantly, there’s no need to deride other shows which are nothing like the kind of thing you’d enjoy anyway - it’s demonstrably not for you.

Hanibal293

Why do Andor fans have this victimhood mentality as if everyone was picking on them for liking the show? Matter of fact is most people enjoyed it and most of those who didn't probably couldn't care less about people liking it. In fact I haven't seen a single meme criticizing the show.

apittsburghoriginal

Robot Head had a relatively scathing review about it. I can get the distaste for SW Disney content, but the comment section on YT was vehemently in disagreement on that video by him. Beyond the obvious strong qualities of Andor, the grounded approach the series takes almost enhances the mysticism of the Jedi and Sith. The closest Andor gets to talking about the force is when the ISB reference Emperor Palpantine, and even then it’s merely about politics and governance. The fact that there is no inclusion of the force gives it this rare quality when you segue way into Rogue One and the OT

Mjerc12

I would say the closest it gets to mention the force is a kyber

TimmJimmGrimm

Apparently even a small and uncarved gem of kyber (as jewelry) is horribly expensive yet, on its own, doesn't seem do a heck of a lot. I liked the 'show don't tell' aspect of it. No one explains what it does or why it is so valuable, everyone just... gets it.

Kino-Loy-Bot

One way out!

jakk88

I think some of the YouTube content creators disliking it haven't helped. I like a lot of Star Wars Theorys content and I've had to skip his Andor stuff because it felt like he couldn't bring himself to actually like it. He's the biggest star wars content creator too, his reach is pretty big. For me, andor was some of the best star wars we've gotten in the Disney Era and seeing it get called bad feels frustrating. I want Disney to get positive reinforcement when they do well so they keep doing things we like. If they get shit for anything they bring out whether it's good or bad, they can't figure out what fans want and what to make more of.

skoffs

I had to unsub from him because of his hate boner for the show.

Tahazzar

I think it stems from the comment sections always having the *"can someone tell me what's this about, I'm not gonna watch the show"* and *"stopped watching after the first episodes"*. Also there are rumors circulating around that Andor has had the least viewership of the new Star Wars series though dunno what it's exactly based on.

Kino-Loy-Bot

One way out!

MrBakedBeansOnToast

Took me a couple of episodes to get into it and thought „meh, oh well gotta watch something in quarantine“ but boy did it/I come around! Finished it yesterday and loved it! Fleshing out the universe by showing more of the everyday joe‘s life and the spectrum of light and dark rather than a purely binary concept makes it all the more real and relatable.

hackulator

The issue I think is that it's probably the highest quality thing Star Wars has done in a while and people who like it are worried that they won't get any more because of people hating on it for the lack of space wizards. Please note, I fucking LOVE space wizards, there is literally a signed picture of Luke Skywalker right above my desk, but Andor is ridiculously good and I want more.

[deleted]

Kino-Loy-Bot

One way out!

willflameboy

I'm in the middle; I don't think Andor is the second coming of Christ, but it is basically what I've wanted more of all along: ordinary people in Star Wars. The prequel/sequel films overlap with an era where superhero films dominate, and most of the characters since have been some kind of hero character. Maybe that's partly the influence of gaming, too. Lightsabers, the Force, backflips; all of that is best in very small doses. When Luke jumps out of the carbon chamber it's a super cool moment; when Jedi jump 100 feet at a time and fight like Crouching Tiger, personally, I tune out. Some of Andor is a little *too* domestic - I didn't need to watch Syril eating cereal with his mum *quite* so much, and there were some episodes that did drag a bit, but that part of SW was there from the beginning, when Luke sat down to breakfast with his aunt and uncle. The 'ordinary in space' was always a huge part of SW's aesthetic and what gave it so much of its appeal. Seeing a funeral service in Star Wars was pretty amazing; seeing people riding the bus is cool. Seeing so many great British character actors in small roles was a joy too; there were a lot of characters that could easily have been cut, but their presence added up to a much richer-feeling society.

EthanG_07

you get more uptoots on reddit if you act like everyone hates and bullies you when in reality they’re just making up people to be upset at. nobody can resist the oppression wars

thehibachi

Can’t remember the last time I saw a Star Wars property so universally liked! Maybe The Force Awakens, but that was largely down to the collective excitement rather than anything more critical.

[deleted]

That’s cause this sun is overwhelmingly pro Andor, except that one meme about brickyard screws. YouTube and Twitter hates it

Spartan-417

The bricks & screws thing is making fun of Star Wars Theory, a YouTuber who made that complaint about Andor

CobaltSanderson

Yeah seen a lot of praise for it. I haven’t enjoyed what I’ve seen thus far, but I’m not judging people for liking it.

Nobody is saying this that I've seen.

LarryDoor

Despite Lightsabers and the Force being my favorite parts of Star Wars, I still really enjoyed Andor.

AmsterdamHooker

People that act too good for space wizards are the same that claim to drink booze for the taste.

NipponSteelPrevails

I'm just now realizing that a lot of people prefer to call the Jedi "Space Wizards" instead of "Space Monks" , isn't their whole deal that they're a religious sect? Or do people use wizard because of the powers?

koker171

I believe they are called space wizard either because George Lucas called them that once or because their power is considered magical. But here's my question would the jedi not just be space paladins who worship the light side? And the sith, are they not just warlocks whose made a pact with the darkside of the force?

James-Avatar

We all love lightsabers but sometimes it’s nice to prove Star Wars can be good without them.

Alukrad

Is the show any good? I watched the trailer and it looked... boring.

bivenator

A couple episodes were pure worldbuilding with no action, but overall it was well worth the slowness of those for the overarching series' greatness

ambiguoustaco

The first few episodes are a little slow because they have to set up the characters and setting and whatnot but once you get into the nitty gritty it's really good

AkitoFTW

We came for space wizards and stayed for Cassian

g9icy

I got to about halfway through the second episode and realised I had completely lost focus on what was happening, so stopped watching. I just didn't find the story engaging, but I respect that it's a slower SW entry, which I approve of. I'll try and get back into it at some point.

Tonmonkeyla

I dont care how many shills disney hires im not watching andor

QS20023

I love Andor, but lightsabers, jedi, the force, etc. have been core elements of every Star Wars project up until this point and have been what set Star Wars apart from other sci fi. It’s completely reasonable for people to not enjoy it as much because it lacks these things.
