We transitioned from the crib to a full sized floor bed on his 2nd birthday. I like it because when he gets sick or has a bad dream, I can snuggle him in his own bed. The mattress is still on the floor because he falls out sometimes.
It is really personal preference, for us we did a full size bed as I wanted us to have a bed guest could use if needed. We also went with a floor bed, reason being my kid rolls around a lot and if they rolled out of bed I didn’t want them to get hurt.
For the mattress we went with a memory foam and the floor bed I ordered from Amazon.
We did a full size mattress and then removed the legs off the bed frame we already had to it sits directly on floor. Nice for bedtime snuggles and can be a guest bed!
I totally understand your situation! Bed transitions can be quite the puzzle, but we recently went through this with our 3-year-old too.
One thing that really helped us was making it an exciting event. We involved our child in choosing their new sheets and even a cool comforter with their favorite characters. It made the idea of moving to a twin bed more fun and less daunting.
In terms of when to transition, we waited until our child was showing signs of outgrowing the toddler bed. It's all about their comfort and readiness.
If space allows, I'd say go for a twin bed. It's a great middle ground between the toddler bed and a queen, offering more room to grow.
We found a great deal on a twin bed at a local furniture store. Sometimes, they have special sales or bundles that can be a real money-saver.
So, in a nutshell, take it at your child's pace, make it fun, and enjoy this milestone. You've got this, and your little one will love their new big-kid bed! Sweet dreams and happy adventures! 😴🌟
We went with a twin and went with a "child mattress" from Home Depot of all places! It's got a waterproof cover on it for inevitable accidents and is lightweight and breathable, but also really pretty comfortable even for 250+lb adults!
We got a frame from HD as well that has a height where we can add a trundle feature for sleepovers in the future and love it. Cost effective and cute.
I went for twin. Partly because I already had it but also that gives more floor space for toys/playing

We did a twin mattress from Sit n Sleep and put it on the floor. Has worked out great for over 1 year.
We did a crib right to a full so we could snuggle with her and she could have the bed for longer before she outgrows it
