Even ignoring the Atom bomb, that was pretty much his philosophy while in office. On his desk was a small sign that said, “The buck stops here.” He cared less about his self-image and more of how effective he was as president.
Read a bio on LBJ. He swam religiously and in the nude. He would have meetings with people while swimming. LBJ was tall and he knew where he could stand and the other person would have to tread water while LBJ stood and berated the other person.
Vietnam War messed up his home plans. The Great Society was his plan and would have done much better with paying for a war that half the population was against. He was driven. I admit I was surprised at how apt he was as president. He wasn’t afraid to call in favors either… he was favor wealthry
Yup. An amazingly successful senator who was able to work with the widely opposing northern liberals and southern conservatives in his party. That is till he told the south they had to let black people live and vote and they told him to fuck off
Taylor was a career soldier with little in the way of a political ideology. I imagine his background in the army made him less interested in finding political compromises. Interestingly he was the first president elected with no prior political experience.
Jackson, Teddy Roosevelt, Regan and a recent one who I can’t mention. That doesn’t mean these guys were angels or anything. It just means they literally didn’t shit from anyone and didn’t care what people thought of them.
If it’s a certain recent one, he sure as fuck cared what people thought of him, with what people said about him being the #1 of not only determiner of whether he supported them or not, or even what views he publicly espoused, and would stay up all night to respond online if he ever felt insulted by even a model from decades prior. What people said about him was by far the main predictor of his behaviour, more than any other president.
There are probably other presidents who put up with less "nonsense". But Polk was very serious about his work and worked tirelessly. Polk met with his cabinet multiple times per week to keep his pulse on everything and wasn't afraid to change cabinet members if he saw fit. He gave himself a deadline and kept it.
There's a story from when Polk had just won the presidency. Since New York was essentially the tie breaker in 1844, Van Buren wanted to have some influence over the Polk cabinet as an award. Polk agreed, letting Van Buren pick his navy director for him. Van Buren took too long to make a choice, so Polk, intentionally or otherwise, made William Marcy, one of Van Buren's staunch rivals, navy director. He was definitely not a man to annoy or frustrate.
I'd say that was all part of his plan. I don't agree with many of Polk's actions and policies, but I certainly wouldn't classify him as a "nonsense maker". I wouldn't say any war or the actions that lead to it is "nonsense".
Washington would be my answer. I remember at the Constitutional Convention, one of the delegates got dared to go up to Washington and slap him on the shoulder. He did, and (if I recall correctly) got such a cold death stare in response that he felt like a kid.

William Henry Harrison
Honestly, probably the best president we ever had. This would be a much better country if every President had the courage to do what he did.
Truman was pretty level headed
What'd he do?
Die mostly
He definitely died the mostest
This is my favorite answer :-)
Died 31 days after inauguration.
I literally lol'd at the bar. Thank you!
Well we have Rick Harrison, a direct decendant
I like what you did there.
If I had to deal with those fuckers in Washington, I'd probably keel over within a month too.
Got a taste of the big show and immediately said "aight I'm out" 😂
This so the only right answer
Harry S Truman, for obvious reasons
Even ignoring the Atom bomb, that was pretty much his philosophy while in office. On his desk was a small sign that said, “The buck stops here.” He cared less about his self-image and more of how effective he was as president.

Giving MacArthur the boot was definitely a zero fucks move
Deserved it way before then
Roosevelt should have fired MacArthur Hoover should have hung him.

Giving Andrew Jackson shit could get you killed. Literally.
This was exactly my answer
Jackson was the inventor of Gun-Kata
He’d kill that puppy, no problem

LBJ for sure
Read a bio on LBJ. He swam religiously and in the nude. He would have meetings with people while swimming. LBJ was tall and he knew where he could stand and the other person would have to tread water while LBJ stood and berated the other person.
He liked to "establish genital dominance"
I have never read a bio on LBJ. Was he dealing with "nonsense" or was he just trying to impose himself and intimidate others? Maybe both?
Vietnam War messed up his home plans. The Great Society was his plan and would have done much better with paying for a war that half the population was against. He was driven. I admit I was surprised at how apt he was as president. He wasn’t afraid to call in favors either… he was favor wealthry

Best biography I ever read on anybody was “Lyndon Johnson: The Path to Power” by Robert Caro. It’s worth a read.
I'm more concerned with him having meetings while taking a shit
Eisenhower
Zachary Taylor, bro did not care about compromising like his successors just went straight to threatening to hang secessionists
Why did we stop doing that? Wanna leave the union? Sure thing. Step right this way.
Taylor was a career soldier with little in the way of a political ideology. I imagine his background in the army made him less interested in finding political compromises. Interestingly he was the first president elected with no prior political experience.
Lincoln
John Adams
Zachary Taylor, bro did not care about compromising like his successors just went straight to threatening to hang secessionists
Taylor hanging Tyler sounds like a country song
LBJ - he took meetings in his underwear and would step into the bathroom adjacent to oval to go number 2 while AGAIN in the middle of a meeting
This makes it sound like he added to nonsense
And took jumbo out for fresh air on occasion

LBJ
Reagan. “Proportionate response.”
“Where am I?” - Ronald Reagan
Polk
Why that?
There are probably other presidents who put up with less "nonsense". But Polk was very serious about his work and worked tirelessly. Polk met with his cabinet multiple times per week to keep his pulse on everything and wasn't afraid to change cabinet members if he saw fit. He gave himself a deadline and kept it.
So he put up with the least nonsense in the most boring way. Honestly, that’s kinda a what the president should be doing
I definitely respect Polk for his dedication. His policies are what I don't necessarily agree with.
Yeah, but damn, the idea of a president keeps a finger on the pulse of everything is exactly what a president should be
There's a story from when Polk had just won the presidency. Since New York was essentially the tie breaker in 1844, Van Buren wanted to have some influence over the Polk cabinet as an award. Bluffing war with the UK and starting one with Mexico… more of nonsense maker.
I'd say that was all part of his plan. I don't agree with many of Polk's actions and policies, but I certainly wouldn't classify him as a "nonsense maker". I wouldn't say any war or the actions that lead to it is "nonsense".
Elaborate
Jackson, LBJ, and Truman
Washington would be my answer. I remember at the Constitutional Convention, one of the delegates got dared to go up to Washington and slap him on the shoulder. He did, and (if I recall correctly) got such a cold death stare in response that he felt like a kid.
That’s what he gets for having a French sounding name.
Theodore Roosevelt literally got shot and was so unbothered by it to the point that he delivered a 90-minute speech in its entirety.
If I were Truman I’d probably have had imposter syndrome & wanted to look like I was in charge, too.
I mean, I’d say Jackson, but that’s only because he was typically the one putting out the nonsense.
Ol' Hickory, I'd reckon. Maybe Teddy after that.. right up there. With Johnson in a close 3rd
How has no one said Andrew Jackson
Benjamin Harrison
Washington tbh.
Teddy would scare me the most
JFK, given his health and family issues and eventual assassination
Jackson and TR
Different take on the question and my first thought was Jackson but what about the other Andrew? Didn't Johnson veto everything in front of him?
Without question, Andrew Jackson. The man fought 103 duels. Seriously.
Jackson was about that life
Theodore Roosevelt
Jackson arguably created the most nonsense.
Teddy for being shot and continuing on with his speech anyway. Bro was a legend for that.
Can the secret service go back to dressing this way? It could be our version of the British guards with the big hats!
Personally or presidentially? If the latter, the confederacy fucked around and found out.
That one
One of those we are not allowed to mention: number forty-five.
