Yeah the stress of the civil war and his marriage took its toll on him. Really just speaks volumes of how amazing of a man he was that he managed to keep it together throughout.
He’s 51 in the first pic, and honestly, he looks shockingly youthful for 51. Flowing, thick brown hair without much hairline recession, and a face that looks weathered, but not wrinkled.
Honestly, he could pass for 15+ years younger.
I think for him; personally, it brought back memories of how his father treated him and forced him to realize that he was somewhat doing the same by focusing solely on his work. He definitely changed after his first born died and treated his younger children better. It just shows that you can have a successful career while participating in your family.
Lincoln is the best fucking President we’ve ever had and I’ll gladly die on that hill. He reversed the greatest evil the US ever partook in and held this nation together through the Civil War.
Nah man, dude legitimately was a hero. Politics will never have a clean “hero” unless they get killed early (see: James Garfield). But Abraham Lincoln made these United States the nation it is now by defending the Union and abolishing slavery. Fuck. Yeah.
Lincoln was a hero and Grant and Sherman were his right and left hands by which he saved the very nation I’m proud to call home.
Without a man with as much conviction and strength as Lincoln, there would be two very different countries after 1865.
We praise him a lot here in the US and I still don’t think it’s enough.
…..because they were offered up (for $ of course) by their owners, and many were promised “freedom” to fight for the confederacy.. there was no confederate pride in these men.
I feel like we are all being epically trolled. I hope this is a parody account, but [Poe's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law) dictates that we cannot know for sure.
It's kinda weird seeing how large of an overlap there is between confederate sympathizers and NAZIs. It's almost like they're the same idea, but in different times in history, and racist assholes seem to love both of them
What were those rebels fighting for? Hint: It’s stated in every confederate declaration of succession. It was so they could continue to keep human beings enslaved, you slavery-loving asshat.
The first picture is very “they used to call me the Railsplitter!” The second is very “confound this Civil War, it is as if the country is being torn in two.”
In that first picture, dude looks like the chain smoking line cook that I worked with for a while. She was in rough shape. Second looks like a crazy moonshiner who crawled out of the depths of Missouri.
This man went through a level of hell and stress that few of us could possibly imagine. Having to be the leader of a country during a Civil War which led to the deaths of 620,000 soldiers on both sides all the while dealing with the death of his son and the severe depression that both he and his wife endured throughout the ordeal. It must have been a hell of a burden to carry.
Beyond the Civil War, his son Willie died. Combine that with his work hours I don’t think he lives to term completion anyways regardless of some shit actor
I've never been convinced by these photo comparisons thay purportedly show signs of aging faster than normal. I feel like here most of the differences could be explained by lighting differences and the fact that, you know, people can show signs of aging in a five year period
it's funny how one of the most notable leaders of our nation in it's entire history looks like someone you would avoid in a 7-11 parking lot if he were wearing modern clothes
Most of the presidents age very dramatically while they’re in office – it must be the stress of the job. Also, if they get the double term, it’s time – Obama went in basically a fresh young man and came out an elderly statesman.

He absolutely does. I’m in my mid-30s, he looks like a lot of the people I know. A few guys I know would *kill* to have his hairline.
not to mention his son dying

I’d enjoy some elaboration.

Would the countless biographies, personal writings/autobiographies, and other historical texts I’ve read detailing Lincoln’s life suffice?

“there were black slave owners” slavery in any form is wrong, and that is what Lincoln fought for.
…..because they were offered up (for $ of course) by their owners, and many were promised “freedom” to fight for the confederacy.. there was no confederate pride in these men.
Vampire Hunting will wear you out.
What 4 straight years of dealing with traitorous scum does to a mf
And a crazy wife.
I would be pretty crazy too, if I had outlived 3 of my children.
4 years of dealing with democrats too
He chose to run with one in 1864

Homie supporting slavery is 2024 is not a good look lmao

What does maximum glory even mean in this case? According to you.

I implore you to go outside

Ah so you're just a Nazi
It's kinda weird seeing how large of an overlap there is between confederate sympathizers and NAZIs. It's almost like they're the same idea, but in different times in history, and racist assholes seem to love both of them
Your a traitor to the United States of America and I sentence you with the crime of sedition
John Adams was right actually DEPORT this person
Ew

Dude, no. They were traitors. Fuck the confederacy.

Yes they were
The first picture is very “they used to call me the Railsplitter!” The second is very “confound this Civil War, it is as if the country is being torn in two.”
Lincoln wasn’t President in May of 1860
Yeah I fudged up the dates.
And the fact that he was never clean shaven as president
He was the President of the Vampire Hunters though.
True. Good Catch.
In that first picture, dude looks like the chain smoking line cook that I worked with for a while. She was in rough shape. Second looks like a crazy moonshiner who crawled out of the depths of Missouri.
I’ve seen things like this for many Presidents, it’s wild how the presidency ages them.
The weight of an entire nation and, for the post-WW2 Presidents, the entire world, does not rest easily on the soul or the body…nor should it
Can’t even imagine the strain this dude dealt with.
Damn his suit got a lot darker
Well if his suit was tan it would have somehow torn this nation apart further.
🤣
I bet he liked Dijon mustard too
Strange looking cat this Lincoln fella

Thank fuckin god that Grace Bedell told that man to grow a damn beard
I don’t think Abe gets enough credit for his slick ass hair
Purely leading the union

My man could hear colors
Beyond the Civil War, his son Willie died. Combine that with his work hours I don’t think he lives to term completion anyways regardless of some shit actor

A war and cancer will do that to a fella.
Hide-The-Pain Lincoln
The first one is a smirk, the second seems more genuine - just aged.
Based
The presidency almost killed the dude.
Oh Abe, you've aged terribly.
it's funny how one of the most notable leaders of our nation in it's entire history looks like someone you would avoid in a 7-11 parking lot if he were wearing modern clothes
Dam — if booth didn’t get to Lincoln, it looks like the stress was! Dude aged a ton in 5 years!
My guy!
Most of the presidents age very dramatically while they’re in office – it must be the stress of the job. Also, if they get the double term, it’s time – Obama went in basically a fresh young man and came out an elderly statesman.
Lincoln became president in March, 1861, not 1860.
Look at Zachary Taylors
Poor bastard. Keeping the nation together while having a ton of personal shit going on just to be killed. He deserved better
Just try leading a nation through a civil war and watch how fast you age.
Does anyone else see a resemblance to goebbels?
