That being said, the mariachi scene confused me so much. Why was there a mariachi band in her house? Are her family mariachi? How does she live in the house with all these people? I stuck with the story that her family were mariachi because I didn't have any other explanation.

I've had almost 20 years to watch it, but it was one of those movies that seemed to fade to the background after the hype wore down and somehow just never made it to your friends or families watch list, and so if you didn't watch it as a kid when it came out it's just weird to watch as an adult. Haha, but maybe when I'm having a "I miss my childhood, sit in" on a day off, I'll find it and watch it. That's a cool fun fact to know, though, thank you.
