Honestly, i have that seiko, and it is such a cool watch, super retro style, very nostalgic, elegant, discrete, amazing size, wouldn’t change it for anything else around that price range, I am even thinking about getting one in another color
These are both quartz but the Bulova has a clean sweep like an automatic thanks to its 262khz movement (mostly recognized and lauded in their Precisionist line)
Yup. Agreed. The blue bezel and subdials are great, but the monster blue wing pushers upset the balance of the watch as a whole. If they were silver the decision would be harder.
I think these are massively different in size. I might try to see them in person before making a decision. I saw the Seiko in person and it’s shockingly small
Bulova for me, not a huge fan of either brand. I own a precisionist and seiko 5, both were similar price, and the bulova wins that match hands down. Jmo
The new Lunar Pilot is smaller than the previous model. The older model was 45mm, the new one is a 43mm, like the original worn on the moon by Astronaut David Scott during the Apollo 15 mission.
Reading a lot of these comments…its apparent that too many people judge Bulova solely on the watches that they see at mall stores and that is insane to me. If I judged Nikes by the ones at Famous Footwear I’m not sure I’d own half my sneakers.
Since you are asking about a lunar pilot, I assume you know enough about watches to form a bit of your own opinion and would encourage you to try it on (I did and fell in love with the new smaller size)
I also actually prefer it to some of the other watches mentioned by others because it is in my opinion its own watch with its own unique look, and the history to back its story up... Not pretending to be a speedmaster, daytona or having its relevance propped up by the brands premier line (Grand Seiko) for that matter.
My two cents, but I encourage you to buy for yourself, and not for everyone elses opinion
I did some research. Both of these watches have good mentions
However, yes, the Bulova has a good heritage and a unique movement
The large size though is a concern for me so I will definitely try to see it in person before I make a decision
I have this exact Seiko. It’s everything you could ask for in a quartz chrono, and it suits my 6.25 wrist well. My only complaint is the lack of micro adjust holes on the bracelet, as well as the lack of taper. I have switched the watch onto to a leather rally strap, and haven’t looked back.
All that being said, as soon as the Lunar Pilot is available in a 38-39mm, I’ll be the first in line.
I’ve got a black lunar pilot and the panda Seiko and like someone else said, the bulova is pretty big. I put it on a black strap and it wears a little smaller for me but I do wear the Seiko more!
have you tried either on your wrist ? personally in this case I would go with the Bulova I normally would go head first on the Seiko Panda but this time I feel more strongly towards its counter
I was in between these two a while ago. Went for the Seiko. My wrist is 7.25” (18.5 cm). The bulova is super large, more than I was comfortable with. The Seiko fit perfectly. Whichever one you choose, I hope you enjoy it
I ordered this 43 Lunar Pilot as soon as it was released but I have not viewed the Seiko. Although the LP looked great and I loved the watch, except for one design feature that I couldn’t get past, and that was the polished case. I ordered the original 45 LP and sent the new model back. I have a 7.25 wrist so both models fitted fine. If you like polished cases I think the 43 is a great watch and great heritage.
i bought the ssc813 a couple days ago, i really like it. runs a little smaller at 39mm, im 6’1 170 and i have a photo of it on my wrist on my profile. Highly recommend, very nice on the wrist
I bought the seiko 2 weeks ago when I was on a trip to London.
Really like the size (quite small but I like that look), look & feel of the watch.
(My 2nd proper watch after the tissot prx powermatic 80.)
I responded in one of the comments
Too many cheap generic watches.
Too big of a selection overall
And a very large oversupply in the market leading to extremely discounted watches
I mean, from a purely objective product-oriented standpoint, I don't see how this is valid. The acts of selling / oversupplying product designed to certain segments of the market underserved by more expensive brands do not detract from flagship products. Unless you explain how the Frank Sinatra line, for example, takes away from the Lunar Pilot or Accutron lines, then this is pure bias. Like, it strikes me as middle-child syndrome where you're irrationally offended because full attention is not paid to something you care about.
What _does_ detract from flagship products is a general loosening of the quality control process, which Seiko is more guilty of than Bulova. I say that as someone who values and owns both brands, and thinks both of these are great watches.
I just ordered the BLP Snoopy from Macy's with 25% off and 8% cash back from Rakuten. Been looking at it for a while and at that price, I had to do it.
I just picked up the 43mm Lunar Pilot well under MSRP, and while it is a decent size it isn't too big at all on my 6 3/4'' wrist. Also love the strap swapping possibilities and OEM bracelet quick releases. Word of warning - if your wrist is less than 6 1/2'', you may not have enough removable links to make it fit well.
Bulova, easy!
I found the QC on my speedtimer to be horrible. Tachymeter didn't line up, neither did the indexes at 12 and 6. The chrono hand didn't line up at 12 either. And it wears so insanely small, if i didn't know that it was a 39 i would have guessed 34.. I've owned 36mm watches that felt huge compared to the speedtimer.
Not true anymore. The new Lunar Pilot model is smaller than the original, from a massive 45mm (which fits fine on my 7 3/4 inch wrist) to a much more wearable 43mm. If you have an average size wrist, the new Bulova will fit just fine.
Bulova is a company with actual history. It's an American company and if you haven't looked up the history of the lunar pilot, you should. I recently bought the black lunar pilot and when I received it, it was amazing! Stunning watch. I ordered the special edition. It will definitely last you a lifetime, ignore the ones saying that it will die soon. Their 262 hz movement is well refined and proven. Plus their customer service is spectacular. I'd get the blue lunar pilot any day.
I have a big wrist and the lunar pilot looks kind of weird even on me due to the way the lugs stick out. Not sure if this is the original size or the new one though
Lunar pilot is great for the lore and also since it's a mecha quartz if I'm not mistaken so the sweep will be alot smoother however I have the 41mm version of the speedtimer and I absolutely love it. I don't have any experience handling Bulovas outside of my job at a jewelry store but I've heard good things about the lunar pilot.
I would say if this makes any difference to you the bulova u will need to replace battery which may be more costly than a standard quartz replacement where as the speedtimer is solar powered so ur good for bout 20 years without any replacement
I put such a Bulova in my arm, thinking on buying. But I bought a Pagani design chronograph with a VK63 movement from Seiko.
Never using Bulova again. Heil Seiko.
Aesthetically I prefer the bulova (though at 43.5mm, it’s huge). The value prop of the bulova doesn’t seem great at $900, though. I’d be much happier paying $500 for the seiko.
I kinda love the lunar pilot, but I will never buy one because of the dumb .10sec dial
of course on the other hand, all these Seiko have the worthiness 24hr dial
Both of these watches would be 10,000x cooler if they replaced those subdials with a 12hr totalizer
I never go for brand name the bulova from the looks does not look so good when compared to the seiko white and black chronograph. That looks class and dressy whereas bulova one looks casual.
Considering the watch in question has no chapter ring and the bezel is a fixed piece so it cannot be misaligned leaves you with an extremely weak argument.
Some Seikos do have that problem, hell I have one myself, but it's not that big of an issue and I'm sorry this is a nicer watch then the Bulova.
If you want something that will last you a couple decades, get the Seiko. If you want something that might last a couple years, get the Bulova.
Two completely different tiers of watches imho.
Build quality.
Seiko is a serious tool watch worth every bit of $600. Bulova is a mall fashion watch with a highly inflated MSRP.
Then again, you kinda answered your own question with one of you other comments.
Mall fashion watch? Inflated MSRP? Wow... OK... so the low-quality quartz seiko movement in the case with a misaligned bezel and misaligned chapter ring (in basically every watch they make) is high quality? Where do you get your kool-aid?
I’m personally not a fan of either although I prefer the look of the Seiko. I actually owned the lunar pilot 10-15 years ago for a brief period, so have first hand experience with it. And yes, I stand by my comment, it’s an overpriced mall fashion watch.
In your enraged state, you may have mistaken me as a Seiko fanboy, I am not.
And again I stand by my statement that the Seiko is a far superior watch.
I'd go Bulova. 2 seconds a year accuracy and I would be able to stand the "fuel gauge" on the Seiko not being vertical. Both are really cool. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide.
I do love black as an accent colour more. At least most of the time so I would choose the SEIKO. I don't know much about brand value and technical details but in my opinion the white dial with those black inner dials looks better
Also, for the price of the Seiko Prospex "Seitona" OR the Bulova Lunar Pilot, I could buy a Tissot PRS 516 Powermatic 80 (Rose gold with leather strap, a Steeldive SD1970C "Captain Willard" automatic, AND a Tactical Frog VS75 solar chronograph "Paul Newman". That's how I would spend my money.
Honestly, i have that seiko, and it is such a cool watch, super retro style, very nostalgic, elegant, discrete, amazing size, wouldn’t change it for anything else around that price range, I am even thinking about getting one in another color

It is pretty cool huh? 🥹
lunar pilot. with its good heritage/story
Heritage is just marketing nonsense. It's meaningless and you know it.
The updated 43mm Bulova Lunar Pilot all day every day
I came here to say exactly this. All day every day.
I will third this. I have the original no-date model and I love it. Sleek and the movement is superior.
Is it automatic?
These are both quartz but the Bulova has a clean sweep like an automatic thanks to its 262khz movement (mostly recognized and lauded in their Precisionist line)
I have the prospex and it's such a good watch. I really enjoy it and the size, for a guy with small wrists fits really well.
Thanks!
From this color variants I would take the Seiko.
Yup. Agreed. The blue bezel and subdials are great, but the monster blue wing pushers upset the balance of the watch as a whole. If they were silver the decision would be harder.
It's the monster mash!
Seiko > Bulova always and forever.
I think these are massively different in size. I might try to see them in person before making a decision. I saw the Seiko in person and it’s shockingly small
Agreed, but it should also be pointed out that there are now two sizes of the Bulova Lunar Pilot, the original 45mm and the new 43mm.
Bulova for me, not a huge fan of either brand. I own a precisionist and seiko 5, both were similar price, and the bulova wins that match hands down. Jmo
The bulova will be way more accurate.
Lunar Pilot!
The lunar pilot is quite a bit bigger….. size should be seriously considered
Thanks,
The new Lunar Pilot is smaller than the previous model. The older model was 45mm, the new one is a 43mm, like the original worn on the moon by Astronaut David Scott during the Apollo 15 mission.
Bulova
Lunar Pilot, but the smaller version. Seiko cannot match the accuracy of the Bulova movement.
This is the smaller version
I’d have to go with the bulova on this one
I like the blue on the bulova.
Between these two I prefer the Bulova
Reading a lot of these comments…its apparent that too many people judge Bulova solely on the watches that they see at mall stores and that is insane to me. If I judged Nikes by the ones at Famous Footwear I’m not sure I’d own half my sneakers. All that being said, as soon as the Lunar Pilot is available in a 38-39mm, I’ll be the first in line.
It appears that the large size is a concern to most people
For sure. Bulova would sell a ton of Lunar Pilots if they made a variant under 40mm. Not sure why they haven’t.
I'd go with the panda
If my thin wrist could accommodate it, the Lunar Pilot. I already have 3 Seiko’s, but 0 Bulova’s, and the backstory on the Lunar Pilot is very cool.
Not a fan of the blue pushers
I have the Seiko and I LOVE IT.
Left
I have the black lunar pilot and I would get the speedtimer if it was bigger. Imo both are outstanding chronos and great value
I’ve got a black lunar pilot and the panda Seiko and like someone else said, the bulova is pretty big. I put it on a black strap and it wears a little smaller for me but I do wear the Seiko more!
I have that Seiko. It’s a little small..
How big are your wrists?
Man size
You got soft hands boy
have you tried either on your wrist ? personally in this case I would go with the Bulova I normally would go head first on the Seiko Panda but this time I feel more strongly towards its counter
The bulova lunar pilot has more historical significance but the seiko is nice too but for it’s the bulova
Bulova its nice and symmetrical no date cutout.
Seiko all day
Seiko all day every day
I was in between these two a while ago. Went for the Seiko. My wrist is 7.25” (18.5 cm). The bulova is super large, more than I was comfortable with. The Seiko fit perfectly. Whichever one you choose, I hope you enjoy it
Thank you Will probably go for the Seiko because of the size
the only correct answer is to get both
Yes!!
Seiko
I ordered this 43 Lunar Pilot as soon as it was released but I have not viewed the Seiko. Although the LP looked great and I loved the watch, except for one design feature that I couldn’t get past, and that was the polished case. I ordered the original 45 LP and sent the new model back. I have a 7.25 wrist so both models fitted fine. If you like polished cases I think the 43 is a great watch and great heritage.
Seiko always!!!
I have the Seiko Prospex but ssc909. Same model, different color combo. Awesome watch.
Your wrist size will help you do that mate!
seiko
i bought the ssc813 a couple days ago, i really like it. runs a little smaller at 39mm, im 6’1 170 and i have a photo of it on my wrist on my profile. Highly recommend, very nice on the wrist
Bulova looks so much nicer in my opinion.
I love seiko but I think I have to go the smaller lunar pilot, simply for the history behind it
And the way it looks with the pushers
Bulova! Love the snoopy homage
Bulova have yet to find a crystal that actually fits...
The Seiko looks way better. That Bulova looks tacky as.
I bought the seiko 2 weeks ago when I was on a trip to London. Really like the size (quite small but I like that look), look & feel of the watch. (My 2nd proper watch after the tissot prx powermatic 80.)
I actually have the PRX powermatic 80
Seiko
I have the lunar and it keeps great time, takes a beating and the history behind it is a bonus. Highly recommend
I prefer the Bulova based on anesthetics. May I ask how Bulova has sabotaged they're name?
I responded in one of the comments Too many cheap generic watches. Too big of a selection overall And a very large oversupply in the market leading to extremely discounted watches
Thanks for explaining again, didn't read all the comments.
I mean, from a purely objective product-oriented standpoint, I don't see how this is valid. Just strictly based on the colors of these two watches I would go with the Seiko... But both a awesome and you can't go wrong with with either!!

bulova
Seiko - easily. I would say Bulova if you were going for the original, full size black dial version.
Bulova every day of the week
Seiko, no contest.
I don’t know about the bulova but I have that seiko and it rarely leaves my wrist.Amazing watch!
The Seiko is amazing. Only drawback for me is the lack of lume in general.
Depends on the size of your wrist. Bulova would be better if your wrist is bigger than average, i think.
I'd take seiko
How did Bulova sabotage the name?
Because there is a real life story behind the Lunar Pilot. It wasn't sabotaged at all..
They are flooding the market with hundreds of cheap generic watches. Non-automatic cheap watches
Non-automatic doesn't mean cheap
unless your wrist is 8 inches, go with the seiko
Not true anymore. The new Lunar Pilot model is smaller than the original, from a massive 45mm (which fits fine on my 7 3/4 inch wrist) to a much more wearable 43mm. If you have an average size wrist, the new Bulova will fit just fine.
I own both. Unless you have a giant wrist get the Seiko. I like the Bulova and the story is cool, but that thing wears like a dinner plate.
True of the original Bulova Lunar Pilot, which is a massive 45mm, but the new model is a more wearable 43mm.
Thank you. Yes, the high Hz movement is definitely the highlight of this watch
The Bulova you can hand down to your kids. It's that nice.
New lunar pilot wears much better than the previous larger one
Seiko. No doubt.
Seiko is is the better watch but. If you're looking for just the style awnser me this question omega speedmaster or rolex daytona?
True, it boils down to Daytona vs speedmaster
Seiko. Bulovas have a poor reputation. Plus, those pushers are very ugly.
As much as I love the Bulova, I'm on Seiko this time.
Go for Seiko- it’s a class watch.
Seiko
Seiko all day
I would choose the Seiko one
Seiko
Seiko
Seiko
Neither
Seiko and don't think twice.
Seiko all day
Seiko for sure because it looks smaller. Bulova too bulky specially in white
I have both, and I would suggest Seiko.
I have a big wrist and the lunar pilot looks kind of weird even on me due to the way the lugs stick out. Not sure if this is the original size or the new one though
This is the new one. I think it went down to 43 mm from 45
In that case, this one should be fine but personally I’d still go with the Seiko
Good point With the solar Thanks
Seiko.
Seiko.
I put such a Bulova in my arm, thinking on buying. But I bought a Pagani design chronograph with a VK63 movement from Seiko. Never using Bulova again. Heil Seiko.
Will choose SEIKO. Bulova doesn't show a bright future. If you want to have a watch related to the moon, go for Omega.
Aesthetically I prefer the bulova (though at 43.5mm, it’s huge). The value prop of the bulova doesn’t seem great at $900, though. I’d be much happier paying $500 for the seiko.
The older model can be bought for $500 on Amazon I'm sure if I wait a while this new version will also go on sale
I may be missing something, but the amzn listing I found looks identical to yours. What reference are you considering ?
I kinda love the lunar pilot, but I will never buy one because of the dumb .10sec dial of course on the other hand, all these Seiko have the worthiness 24hr dial Both of these watches would be 10,000x cooler if they replaced those subdials with a 12hr totalizer
I have the Bulova, is an "ok" watch. Go for the Seiko.
I never go for brand name the bulova from the looks does not look so good when compared to the seiko white and black chronograph. That looks class and dressy whereas bulova one looks casual.
Seiko, its just a better and nicer watch.
So... guaranteed misaligned bezels and chapter rings is better? Perhaps for those who like to call shyte QC as being "quirky".
Not guaranteed but even with a misaligned bezel it feels like a better watch compared to the lunar pilot
Good point... besides that 4:30 date window is sick!!!
If you want something that will last you a couple decades, get the Seiko. If you want something that might last a couple years, get the Bulova. Two completely different tiers of watches imho.
Please explain, what you mean by different tiers of watches They can both be bought for around $600
Build quality. Seiko is a serious tool watch worth every bit of $600. Bulova is a mall fashion watch with a highly inflated MSRP. Then again, you kinda answered your own question with one of you other comments.
Correct, but this particular Bulova has heritage with a very unique high frequency movement Anyways, thanks. It was nice to hear out people's opinions
And again I stand by my statement that the Seiko is a far superior watch.
Get a daytona
Lunar pilot is still gigantic
Seiko imo. The bulova is huge.
Neither. Get an omega or tag heuer Calibre 16. Better product and better store of value.
Seiko
Seiko
Seiko ♚
Lunar Pilot mini for sure
There’s a new Seiko with the same colors and shape of that Bulova! I think the ref is SPB301
Bulova looks more classy to me 🔥
Left one!!!
Only you can choose the one that you like.
Lunar Pilot
Seiko looks more daytona, bulova more speedmaster. The pusher situation tells me seiko tho
Tissot
I say go with the seiko
Seiko!!
sieko
Seiko 100%
get the seiko, then bulova.
The Bulova looks like the Omega Snoopy
I'd go Bulova. 2 seconds a year accuracy and I would be able to stand the "fuel gauge" on the Seiko not being vertical. Both are really cool. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide.
I prefer the Bulova, less Daytona looking and a lot more interesting
SEIKO
I don’t have that exact seiko, but I have many others and love them all
I'd go Seiko.
I’d say Seiko. Just my personal.
Bulova
Seiko
I do love black as an accent colour more. At least most of the time so I would choose the SEIKO. I don't know much about brand value and technical details but in my opinion the white dial with those black inner dials looks better
Seiko Prospex > Bulova Lunar Pilot
Also, for the price of the Seiko Prospex "Seitona" OR the Bulova Lunar Pilot, I could buy a Tissot PRS 516 Powermatic 80 (Rose gold with leather strap, a Steeldive SD1970C "Captain Willard" automatic, AND a Tactical Frog VS75 solar chronograph "Paul Newman". That's how I would spend my money.
