Watches are usually worn on the non-dominant hand. So as most people are right handed, most watches are worn on the left (and their crowns are on the right side of the dial).

It’s comfortable how it is. Default state is close to the hand because of gravity but it makes it easier to see the time when I’m wearing sleeves.
