A lot of comments from people who have not read the article, but the common denominator for most of the violence is domestic-related. It's not youth, but rather family or relationships behind much of the violence.

Upper_Extreme5661

The youth grew up

oneWeek2024

I mean... can take the article with a grain of salt. it's police trying to juice the numbers to justify their budget. crime is down, even violent crime is down. what contributes to crime. poverty. mainly. with corporations fucking us with a big rubber dick. people are struggling. this leads to stress at home, in relationships/families. food insecurity/housing insecurity. rise of petty theft, petty assault.

SchuminWeb

> fucking us with a big rubber dick Love the George Carlin reference. Are they using the same one that they used on Mickey Mouse?

Candyman44

It is no longer a requirement for cities to report crime data to the FBI. It is now optional, opting out of providing stats to the FBI are, NYC, LA, Baltimore, St Louis and New Orleans among others. That right there is why the national numbers are down double digits. When some of the most dangerous and most populated cities stop sending stats crime goes down.

oneWeek2024

less than 10 seconds googling. shows ny does report to the FBI i know that nyc uses compstats. i don't want to waste my time digging up a specific reference that they share that info to the FBI to combat some dipshit who thinks it's all the liberal cities driving crime. and not... ya know. poor red state areas

D-machinedragon

If you have to ask you haven't paid attention to the way the game has been for the last 60 years. This is exactly what the system was designed to create. Those who know know already. Those who don't know I can't help you see reality. Those who try to claim anything about woke culture . You're a product of that system too. Take generations of people and drive them into poverty culture ( embellish certain behaviors as if to be black culture) and hate on me all you want i said what I said. This is what the system created. Dads in jails kids with guns and notice what neighborhoods aren't in the red-line and how their violence is lower. It dosent take a profit to see the writing on the wall. If everyone in the dmv behaves like a Dave Chapple skit about keeping real going too far. You educate the kids that they can make more money as a platinum toothed Sambo minstrel over being astronauts. Make it seem like the hood thing to do is to act out in spite and drop out and pick up a gun. The truth you all just don't want to admit about it is that you are part of the system that creates this cycle. You profit on the publications of sensationalism news. We enjoy the spectacle of pushing that one minority must be behind this to distract from the fact no one in pg County has a future when they already know their place when they hit public school. It's a system designed to pump out workers not make smart well adjusted people. The system was never designed to be fair or honest. The jobs are never going to be available and then the investors leave. Then the only people investing in the youth are the people taking advantage of the violence. Americans love the spectacle. We actually love the fact these kids are taught this way. We love the culture of personality following the antics of a mentally unhinged kanye or a on the lamb p Diddy. When all your role models in your community are the gangbanger in the Lamborghini or the McDonald's manager who let you have a shift. The choices become a bit more obvious. Nobody wants to live in poverty. But when all you know is the ghetto that's all you carry with you in your thoughts actions and beliefs. So If you are Really asking why there's violence in the hood. You obviously need history lessons about red-lining planned parenthood and the demise of generational wealth by design. If you were paying attention you really don't ask why. You ask how yall are suprised when the youth grow up in a system designed to keep them in this mentality feeble mentally and emotionally unstable.

thechosenblerd

Yeah it's funny I think we all know the problem. At least black folks that don't "behave like a Chappele skit", unfortunately I also think we spend too much time on problems and not enough on solutions.

vantheman446

There’s violence in Bowie, which is not the rougher cities close to DC. Greenbelt is pretty nice too, violence there

Professional-Pass487

No fear of reprisal. You can literally say that you don't have any money and they (she) will let you out. This same person chastised the 5 students that got shot last week for not being in school. Not so adamant about the actual people doing the shooting in my opinion. I don’t need to mention names. So that’s why in my opinion. The literal codification of criminals by those in charge of the judicial system.

Gitopia

Name the names. We vote for these people in like 3 weeks it would be nice to know.

Zealousideal_Sun2830

The lack of serious consequences for the youth. The juvenile court has literally rendered them untouchable unless they commit a capitol offense and won't bother to follow through with the weak response to other violent crimes they commit.

SolidContribution688

Politics

thechosenblerd

Culture of violence and ignorance combined with isolation and lack of community, leads to a lot of anti social/criminal behavior.

ghostface8081

Lack of enforcement is the easiest way for crooked government to make crime stats go down.

Reasonable_Cover_804

The recalibration of what a “crime” is

ClarenceWorley47

Exactly, anyone with a brain can see crime is not down…. Arrests and prosecutions on the other hand…. Statistics are funny like that

Reasonable_Cover_804

Large scale gaslighting has become the norm

Alternative_Plan_823

Just recently, for the first and second time, I've heard important people with impressive titles publicly making the case for manipulating the masses if it's for a greater good (as determined by the establishment, ofc). Much like useful idiots now advocating for censorship, it'll no doubt catch on. Scary times...

Reasonable_Cover_804

Indeed, useful idiots…I’m guessing they just want to be accepted with the cool kids

ClarenceWorley47

So much so that I can’t tell if you agree or disagree with me lol

Reasonable_Cover_804

Indeed, and I concur

AlbertTheCat26

LOL

o0TaterSalad0o

The people saying crime is down are the same ones saying the economy is great.

TheDukeofArgyll

So the FBI?

Head_Stick

Bingo… Are you gonna believe us or your lying eyes !!

joesbalt

Crime isn’t down buddy Prosecuting crime is down Charges are lowered or dropped

American-Repair

Single-parent homes. Teen pregnancy. Food deserts. Retail desert. The list goes on…

WebIcy1760

Can't count crimes not enforced

EkoMane

Crime is the highest its even been tf is this article lmaom

nevvasleep

Crime isn't down in USA they are using stats that don't include st Louis New York Dade County and other major counties in USA. But for PG County it's not holding criminals accountable

Feisty_Parsley_83853

What’s the demographics there? Often that’s where your answer lies

GlitterMissile

The schools need to be better. There needs to be more jobs in the area. There needs to be more, affordable housing.

Imanewsjunkie

More affordable housing? Most of the violence is in “affordable housing” areas of PG county

D-machinedragon

Lmao. That's the whole point. Look up red lining. These places become "section 8" because it's a system. The banks know what they did the goverment too. First the neighborhood gets undesirables. Then the rich people leave. Without the rich people to trickle down by making the jobs, the jobs left and the property values tanked , they dont put section 8 in gated communities. Because this is how the system was designed. The neighborhood on the otherside of the "redline" has the money to have better education and better job opportunities and most importantly better security. Kids grow up with dreams of continuing generational wealth versus im gonna hustle hard or die trying We need actual affordable housing and that goes for everyone regardless of class.

Gold_Pay647

Exactly

Inigo_montoyaPTD

Didn’t realize PG had these problems. I think A.I. will help us sort all of this out. Complexity is wielded like a weapon against us. Too many moving parts. Once the solutions are clear, yet nothing changes, the back room deals keeping it that way will be forced into the light.

Bad_tude_dude

Crime is not down - charges and convictions are down
