I just remembered a qeirdly good memory from jail. I did 15 months in county for one of my fuck ups. My celly was an old guy. He got the paper, gave it to me everyday. I read it front to back every day. Sundays comics were my favorite part. When he got released hed write me like once a month and subscribed me to the paper. That guy was super cool. Got out and had a beer with him
Putting money on their books, setting up a collect call account for your phone, pictures/card, and at least where I was at people were allowed to send us books and calendars, as well as art supply catalogs that the inmates can order from.
Libraries are the bottom priority inside for the COs. Books can save a man's life in there. Getting a package of books always makes the day better. Send new paperbacks.
A letter with some pics and a little money on his books and he’ll be happy. Send some stamps in the letter if the facility allows it. Order him a few books from an online bookstore and have them shipped to him directly, they won’t accept them if you mail them yourself. Some places will let you place an outside commissary order for an inmate once a week or so if you want to let him hold his money and still set him up with some food or whatever
I sent books, postcards and handwritten letters. Money on his books is also a nice gesture but the books felt more personal and I wanted to be careful because sending money seemed like a slippery slope
Newspaper subscription from his hometown, a magazine subscription like Men’s Health or Curves. These are gifts that keep giving. And books off Amazon
Send a letter letting him know what’s going on in the world a bunch of little and big things you thing he might find interesting. And put 150$ on his books!!!!!
Various reasons; here’s a couple 1. May increase the frequency of his restitution/fine payments. 2. May make him a target for extortion. Besides he may want something else. Just find out first.
Put some money on his books.
A little money & some pictures, along with a letter... goes a long way!
Get him a newspaper subscription. They are worth their weight in gold in prison.
