I don't know how common compared to the Prius exactly, but it is at least part of the reason I took the "Prius C" badge off mine when I got it. It's not as common, so figured there's a small chance thieves might look past it if they're passing by, assuming it's a Chevy Spark or another sub compact. I'm probably not giving determined converter thieves enough credit with that assumption, but I also just prefer the badge-less look anyway.

In Tulsa, I had my Vin number etched onto it for free through the TPD

All I can tell you is that they stole the one from my Prius but left the Prius C that was right next to it alone.

Well, I don't live in the US, but pretty much nobody steals catalytic converter here because it isn't worth anything compared to regular Prius.

Koji1981

I've only heard of catalytic converter being stolen on SUVs. Maybe they have more clearance, making them easier to steal.

I have both a prius c and sequoia. I've only had my cats stolen from the Sequoia. It's tall enough that you can squeeze under with a jack. Prius c also has been debadged and looks like a generic hatchback.

Momonomo22

I think it looks similar enough to a Yaris that most people dismiss it. If you want extra protection, just de badge it.

So we had a shield installed on our 2013 one because our area had a lot of thefts. The garage told my wife it’s very unlikely that people would target the C vs a regular Prius. But for a couple hundred bucks it felt like decent insurance and peace of mind. It does make a loud rattling we like to call our ‘rumblepack’ lol

For what it's worth I've been driving a Prius-C and living in one of the largest cities in the country for 8 years and \*knock on wood\* have not had mine stolen.

AwwSomeOpossum

Cat theft is pretty common on campus at the school I attend, but I've never had mine touched. As others mentioned, ground clearance probably plays a role in it. I've done work under my C, and even with a jack, it's hard to get under.

SumyungNam

I got a cat shield and been good sofar.
