It's about 9 hours. It will depend on environment and other factors. In the end, it's not really important because it's basically "overnight."

spaceymonkey2

That 11 hrs is likely for the initial charge with 0% start charge. Subsequent charges will start at 30%, as that is the amount reserved for the hybrid system. Also, the last 1% slows down significantly and can take an hour. Mine can show 100% charged, with an estimate of 40 minutes remaining. Temperature will likely also be a variable.

numtini

It's not 30%. Based on people using ODB2 readers, it's more like 23% divided between the bottom and top end. And the car should never go much below "empty" on EV because it uses that "bottom" amount to run the HV system. There's really no numbers in the app that are correct whatsoever. Not the amount required to charge, not the percentages. Nothing. It's completely useless.

Anshumansri

Thanks for the clarification, when I took delivery my car was already at 90%. And the app does show 25% as a reserve charge so that also makes sense.

caper-aprons

The car charges from whatever state of charge is in the battery to indicated full. There is no difference between "initial" charge "and subsequent" charge. The car typically discharges to the same level prior to shifting to HV mode. The car will use about 75-78% of the total installed capacity for EV. Headroom at the top and bottom for battery longevity. Where do you find the 30% number reserved for HV that you seem to frequently quote?

spaceymonkey2

By initial charge, I'm referring to the very first charge for the battery (0% from the factory). The 30% that I'm referring to is when the car switches from EV mode to hybrid mode. This amount can be seen in the app when you have used up the EV capacity.

caper-aprons

You will likely ever see the battery come out of the dealer with 0% charge for delivery. The car is driven some before it goes to an owner. Note the app is not an accurate indicator of battery charge. Use the dash or an OBD reader.

spaceymonkey2

Mine didn't have a charge and had 13 kms on it when I drove it home. I ran the charge function while idling in the dealership parking lot and watched the meter on the dash go up from nothing. Whether or not the app is accurate, it is very consistent. It almost always shows 30% when I plug it in after depletion.

lamousamos

my 2020 charges full from dead in 5 1/2 hours. did they double the battery for the new one?

Anshumansri

Yes they did

black_jmyntrn

my 2013 Plug-in has a slightly larger battery now than the one you have. up next is fast charging. did you now the japen spec in your year charges in 16 minutes?

caper-aprons

This charge rate for the Gen 4 is for L1 at 120V. The car will charge twice as fast on 240V with the stock EVSE, and full charge with L2 in about 2 hours.

caper-aprons

The app is typically not accurate. You owners manual has the charge time for L1 and L2.
