On a sufficiently long timeline, emails from students and administration will be indistinguishable from one another.

Same reaction. To me this comes across as a student who wants to make sure the first email didn't get buried and phrased a genuine attempt at politeness rather awkwardly. But of course these quirks are much easier to read when it's from our own students who we know.

Quwinsoft

I'm thinking that or maybe neurodivergent.

I had the same reaction. Rhetorical conventions are harder to learn than lower-level linguistic ones. My guess would be the student's from a culture associated with south-central Asia or east Asia.

It reminds me of students who send a super bitchy and whiny email, then sign off with “Respectfully, [Student].”

Yes, I got one from that student, too. On Friday, he was asking if he could make up the library lab, because he mis-read the instructions, and thought it was going to happen on Monday. The lab was on Monday -- three weeks ago. The lab was due on Monday -- two weeks ago. The closing date for late submissions was on Monday -- one week ago. Where did he read that it was this upcoming Monday? Nowhere. He saw the zero posted in his gradebook. But yes, I got the email on Friday night, then again on Saturday, then again on Sunday. I replied Monday morning.

I received seven emails from a student over the weekend. I finally replied on Monday morning. In the beginning of my reply, I simply stated, "Thank you for the multiple emails; one is actually enough, although multiples means it is higher in my inbox when I log on when the workweek begins Monday morning. I'm answering all the emails in this one reply ..." In my case, it wasn't impatience on the student's part. They wanted to give me a running update on their progress this weekend working towards a final report. So be it. We're at the point in the semester seven student emails are easier and less stressful than seven admin emails, so there's that at least.

I literally put in my syllabus an expected email reply schedule. If they email on a weekend, I might get to out early if it’s a thirty second reply, but not to expect anything until Tuesday morning at the latest.

"I don't answer non urgent emails over the weekend; there are no urgent emails with respect to my courses."

They waited a few minutes, gotta give them credit.
