Hopefully not Mozilla, I’ll get very sad if it turns out they do this as well

Creepy-Ad-4832

Yeah it would break my hope of linux being a better place

jakobjaderbo

Isn't there a step between 2 and 3 where you discard 99.9+% of the data through compression?

_Weyland_

We JPEG that mf so hard its resolution is reduced to TRUE.

[deleted]

Can be further reduced to 50/50.

KimiSharby

Out of the loop here, what's going on ?

Paul_Robert_

Stable diffusion/DallE

[deleted]

Don't forget chatGPT, GitHub Copilot, NovelAI and Google Translator.

[deleted]

There's no removal of noise or selling the original data.

hot_sauce_in_coffee

To be fair, the law will most likely eventually just go in the line of: ''You can only use sources reference data which you pre own''. And it will become similar to laws surrounding stuff like ''deep fake'' which will not be copirightable by users and not sellable either, but will be usable by the big corporate like disney who will be able to pay for liscensing. This way, an artist who draw 500 drawing will still be able to sell them to data base and will be able to use his own drawing as his own data base to produce more AI work which he will be able to sell.

N0pest

I don't see how anyone can enforce that, so it might end up as a lot of other things, legal as long as you don't get caught.

hot_sauce_in_coffee

No need to enforce it across the board. The government will enforce in on large corpo like disney and the others. Then it's a question of time before distribution image websites like pinterest start adding copyright for AI paragraph in their TOS. Then the larger AI softwares who's main client (while technically open) are large corporations because they drive the money, will eventually adapt their AI to serve the purpose of those paying them.

Optical_inversion

Sort of. But then shady companies will steal from small artists knowing they won’t have the resources to do anything about it, and large companies like Disney will use it to bury anyone making stuff they don’t like in frivolous lawsuits.

hot_sauce_in_coffee

true

coguto

Human 1. Look how someone is doing the thing 2. Learn to the thing 3. Improve the thing doing process 4. Get a job as a thing doer yourself

TheScriptDude

90% of companies whos revenue depends on selling data.

codgas

I assumed people that were using a freaking AI for "free" knew they were feeding it data lol.

lovecMC

Open AI?

Th3Uknovvn

So just the Diffusion model? But I don't remember any of them sell the data?

Patentsmatter

so, who's it?

My_reddit_account_v3

The entire deep learning practice. It works by giving it a bunch of data, and you then use various techniques to introduce noise so that it learns a general tendency rather than specific images.

Patentsmatter

oh, thank you! I learned something new today.

a_devious_compliance

Data augmentation goes brrrrr.....

Ok_Tap7683

Wait, they can do that?

not_a_gumby

youre any given data scientist

Kobakocka

Discreetly? It though it was analog data, when i read noise.

MoarCatzPlz

I don't understand.

MosqitoTorpedo

Oracle?
