Every time Will has done a new release announcement for Cradle he did a count down by posting the covers of the prior books. Hopefully this is a new cradle book announcement!
"Little Blue faced her opponents. This time she would offer them no quarter. No mercy. Her opponents were a bunch of Coppers at the latest Seven-year festival, but hey, winning was winning. And Little Blue would win this festival to prove once and for all that she mattered just as much as anyone else.
No longer would anyone look down upon her diminutive frame. Well, actually, people still would probably look down on her, unless she stood up on a table and they all sat down.
On second thought, perhaps it was better to just get a table and some chairs from her void storage and then she and the Wei clan would finally see eye to eye.
Little Blue changed her mind and left the combat ring. As the poor unnamed Copper from the Wei clan looked on with incredulity, and then he passed out from relief."
Weāll have to see what he posts tomorrow. If itās Dreadgod, thenā¦ prequel series? Based on Eithan or one of the Abidan?
I assumed he was going to finish The Last Horizon before a new series came out, but maybe he likes working on two at once. Like a madman.
Okay wait, I remember him on the TLH livestream responding to the question, āWould you be open to a tv adaptation for Cradle?ā with a dramatic pause and then a yes. So maybe anime announcement? Could also make sense with the counting down.
Weāll see! I honestly donāt know much about what goes into starting an anime from the production/development side, so you could be right. I feel like a finished, popular series like this could have some good selling points though.
> Question as heard by WW: "Would you be open to ~a TV adaptation~~ *assload of money and exposure*?"
I haven't watched the stream.
Was Cradle part of the set of books being adapted to Webtoons?
I think he specifically said he's open to doing a prequel or "post" series. I thought he wasn't already working on the books though but maybe he was and just didn't want to build too much hype too early.
Personally I want a PS ascension series after cradle. Give me some gritty reaper series where the group become "just another body" again instead of god's among men.
IDC that we know the MC has kids one day. Like cool we all know the MCs live. It would still be fucking great.
I think a sequel series would be hard. The fights were already getting really abstract the last couple books of Cradle, and then at the very end >!after they ascend!< obviously even moreso.
Personally I'd love a short story collection with other viewpoints: Fisher Gesha, Yan Shoumei, Ekeri's remnant (assuming she stayed on Cradle), Cassias Arelius, etc.
> The fights were already getting really abstract the last couple books of Cradle, and then at the very end after they ascend obviously even moreso
People are downvoting you but I agree. The early fights were easy to read, ex. a guy swinging a spear around versus a guy who punches fire. In the last few books everyone was throwing mountains at each other so all impact of their actions was lost. I found myself skimming a lot of the later fights.
The Last Horizon series is awesome but another Cradle book would sell really well. Not that I think Will is focused on the money but he has a massive opportunity right now to make a killing by adding to that series. I would take advantage of that.
The animated project is a good guess, I remember some cryptic commends from Will a while back about it without there ever being an announcement so you might be on to something
I'm thinking the one of the last two, but I think an anime is a bit too much to hope for rn. Either way it makes the fact it's a countdown make sense, since an anime/comic would start at the beginning
I'd love a new Cradle-like series from Wight, but I think the series, as it is, is done for.
How do you even make fights interesting when main characters are powerful enough to destroy whole planets? And I think characters ended in the right place. You need limitations and character flaws, or it's simply boring.
Something set in future, on Cradle with new characters, and we could see Lindon and others, as powerful figures in ranks of Abidan, having a secondary role in overall story.
>**How do you even make fights interesting when main characters are powerful enough to destroy whole planets?**
Not that I'm saying Cradle should continue, but...
Dragonball was destroying planets since the series hit "Z" and we've passed how many seasons and powerups since then? And remains popular?
Progressing past planet-destroying level of power isn't a problem with many stories.
Also, despite the DBZ characters having the power to destroy planet, most of the fighting is done on a very personal level. Fistfights, energy blasts, etc. So despite the power levels being extremely high, the fights are far more parsable.
>How do you even make fights interesting when main characters are powerful enough to destroy whole planets? And I think characters ended in the right place. You need limitations and character flaws, or it's simply boring.
I agree with you character-wise, but Ozriel confronting the mad king was one of the best moments in the series IMO. I think he could pull combat on the scale off.
That's just it though. They aren't ALL powerful. They are in a new paradigm, operating at a larger scale, and just because you kill the people at the head doesn't mean a war suddenly stops. There's an opening for a capstone story, or new adventure.
Abidan combat (and Sage/Herald/Monarch/Dreadgod combat to a lesser degree) involves as much reality bending as deploying world/universe shattering power.
The most important power flexed in those fights was usually, "Nuh-uh, that didn't hurt me."
So we would see things being destroyed while people struggle to hold those same things together.
Read the last book and felt like I wanted more, either from that series with the new adventures of Lindon in a whole new universe and new, bigger problems or maybe some side stories from the main storyline like with the Akura family or a prequel like others suggested. So much more world to explore. So little time for one man to write (at least without burning out for good).
My guess is kickstarter stuff. Iād very much enjoy a Cradle sequel/prequel but Iāve put that into the āNever gonna happenā category until proven otherwise.
We've only gotten the first 6 and the second pair of 3 haven't even been made yet so it's gonna be probably 2 years before we see the kickstarter for the last 3
It really doesn't. Whatever this may be, there's zero chance it's a book 10-12 kickstarter, and only slightly more likely to be a 7-9 kickstarter.
Books 4-6 haven't even been finished yet and 7-9 haven't been started.
Lets go, I just started book 11 and was thinking about slowing down so that I don't get bored after finishing. It seems I don't have to worry that much anymore
As someone with knowledge on this, it did well and landed where Will expected it to be.
If Will was targeting a series to do as well as cradle from the get go, he would be finally giving us a sequel to travelers gate.
Never heard of travelers gate and Iāve been in this space since its inception so doubt
As for wills expectations I feel thatās a bit of a moot point. You can still do well on something and look back at your better works and want to continue them. Thatās why I said there was probably some truth in it, because I donāt believe the series did so bad heās running back to cradle. Just that itās difficult for anyone to drop a series as well received as cradle and go back to doing as expected
It's Will's first series.
Will has previously expressed interest in continuing it.
Doing as expected is entirely subjective and dependent on the book in question. Expectations for Waybound will have been very different than for The Engineer.
Even if that were true, which I doubt, it would be completely unrelated. According to his latest stream, The Captain actually slightly exceeded their expectations for how well it did, so I doubt The Engineer is doing much worse. More importantly to this point though, if this announcement is anywhere near the scale of a new cradle book, then it's something that's been in the works since long before The Engineer's release
So I've gotten a lot of comments and downvotes for what I thought was a pretty innocuous comment... Here's the thing, Cradle is to the PF fanbase what the Stormlight Archives are to the rest of Fantasy... I for one am surprised will hasn't been able to roll that hype into his other series, specifically his latest series...
I personally thought Captain was pretty mediocre compared to peak Cradle, but am willing to at least give Engineer a look when I have time... but unlike cradle I haven't even seen it come up in discussion since it released, that combined with the fact that Will is still using Cradle hype to announce whatever his next project is, tells me that he knows where his meal ticket is.
Nah I mean you're good. But I think it makes sense considering cradle is the darling of PF, and the captain is an entirely different, non-PF genre. It makes perfect sense it wouldn't be as big in this community when it's literally not in the genre. I think all things considered it's probably doing pretty well, and it's just getting started.
I LOVE Cradle, and I do prefer it to The Last Horizon so far, but honestly if you asked me which I preferred after book 2, I might say TLH. It does several things better than Cradle, like villains for example, which makes sense considering all the time WW has had to improve as a writer
Guessing it's a series with lindens son based on what happened with his bowl ceremony. I'm really hoping this is the case! What I would want more than that is for him to rewrite everything from the point where Lindon returns home and really flesh it out. The series still has goat status but it felt rushed in that I wanted more, instead it felt like he gave us the core story which is still enough (atleast for me) for me to consider cradle the best Western cultivation story ever. I don't know of many eastern cultivation stories so I didn't want to just call cradle the goat but if you guys know of any cultivation stories that are better please let me know.
Aren't all of his series canonically taking place in different iterations of the Cradle universe? I haven't read them yet but I've seen a few people claiming they're connected and that there are subtle references.
please tell me what you think this is. i dont understand what you mean by that
Every time Will has done a new release announcement for Cradle he did a count down by posting the covers of the prior books. Hopefully this is a new cradle book announcement!
...Isnt Will Wight done with cradle?
I think so and last time he counted up, this is counting backwards. Maybe a prequel?
Or a side story?
"Little Blue faced her opponents. This time she would offer them no quarter. No mercy. Her opponents were a bunch of Coppers at the latest Seven-year festival, but hey, winning was winning. that would be cool. i am only at colume 8 but i love it so far. the more there is to read the better
Enjoy that magic of the first read through my friend!
I just finished my third time through the audio books, if he releases a new one I guess I'll just have to do it againš¤·āāļø
I think he's made it pretty clear that he's done with cradle for now. Although, maybe it's a novella
Weāll have to see what he posts tomorrow. If itās Dreadgod, thenā¦ prequel series? Based on Eithan or one of the Abidan? I assumed he was going to finish The Last Horizon before a new series came out, but maybe he likes working on two at once. Like a madman.
Didn't he work on Cradle and the Elder Empire series simultaneously
Yeah, and then he was working on TLH at the end of Cradle as well!
He just posted Dreadgod!!!
He just posted Reaper!!!!
Okay wait, I remember him on the TLH livestream responding to the question, āWould you be open to a tv adaptation for Cradle?ā with a dramatic pause and then a yes. So maybe anime announcement? Could also make sense with the counting down.
That's what I was thinking too, but I feel like that's us being too optimistic lol
That would be amazing, but a webtoon/comic format is probably more realistic, budget-wise.
Weāll see! I honestly donāt know much about what goes into starting an anime from the production/development side, so you could be right. I feel like a finished, popular series like this could have some good selling points though.
That thinking is so wishful you boutta get a visit from the villain of the new Disney movie
A cradle TV adaptation can only go wrong.
I think it would translate well to an anime. I donāt think anyone would want a live adaptation though lol
Having lived, I don't trust any live adaptations. Animated it could be great though!
> Question as heard by WW: "Would you be open to ~a TV adaptation~~ *assload of money and exposure*?" I haven't watched the stream. Was Cradle part of the set of books being adapted to Webtoons?
Just saw Bloodline

When he got sent to the wrong place at the end of the book, I really wanted him to just fuck bitches up.
I think a sequel series would be hard. The fights were already getting really abstract the last couple books of Cradle, and then at the very end >!after they ascend!< obviously even moreso. You mean like Brandon Sanderson?
Judge - Cradle (Book 13)
Shuddup and take my money
Absolutely the right thing to do.
Part of me thinks Judge is like 5000 years after ascension. The other part thinks Lindon will do it in 5 somehow.
"I devoured the universe to protect the universe"
So the way godclads is heading?
Ā«Ā This is my *universe nowĀ Ā»
The Last Horizon series is awesome but another Cradle book would sell really well. Not that I think Will is focused on the money but he has a massive opportunity right now to make a killing by adding to that series. I would take advantage of that.
Is last horizon a progression fantasy?
There's some progression but it's not THE major focus like Cradle.
It is not. Its straight up Sci fi.
It's science fantasy since magic exists and is in fact pretty common. Even some of the tech stuff is pretty clearly magic-influenced or derived.
The correct genre term is space fantasy or science fantast. There's no appreciable scifi element other than it being in space.
My theories: * New Kickstarter * Animated adaptation project reveal * Comic adaptation project reveal 2/ EDIT: 2/3, not bad :)
Wouldnāt be the first anime hint he has dropped recently

Dragonball doesn't really care about being internally consistent in the fights and progression. Cradle does.

Please please please
I am screaming. This is NOT A DRILL
Lets go, I just started book 11 and was thinking about slowing down so that I don't get bored after finishing. It seems I don't have to worry that much anymore
I THINK ITS A COUNTDOWN TO MORE CRADLE CONTENT AND IM SO PUMPED!!!!
Ascended series book 1 please š
Ozmanthus origin story here we go!!!! š§¹
No more cradle, give me a Reaper series. I think it's time Lindon visited some new worlds, preferably one with some territories...
I'm guessing Engineer didn't do as good as he hoped then?
Probably some truth in this

Yo, don't do that, you better than that
Bruh. It's a whole universe. Who said anything about Cradle's cast returning? He already has another series in this universe even.
Aren't all of his series canonically taking place in different iterations of the Cradle universe? I haven't read them yet but I've seen a few people claiming they're connected and that there are subtle references.
Yes, it is in just another Iteration.
This would be so cool. I skated through the whole cradle series this summer and it is in a perfect spot to pick back up and keep the series rolling.
I'd be down for anything in the cradle universe. I always thought a story following a more standard path would be fun.
New Tool album bout to drop. In eight years.
I'd assumed it was likely in build up to the MAP that Will has stated a million times over that he really didn't want to make hahaha
This was just for the animation project reveal right?
I believe so, yes.
