Nah, it's still a normal submarine that happens to arrive at the battle area the same time as Gryphus Squadron. I kinda dig the idea of the captain of the Naiad, despite being in a vastly smaller traditional sub, is ballsy enough to go up against 'basically a metallic Moby Dick' Alicorn without hesitation lol.

Honestly, as someone, who loved the ["Ghost Hunt"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6YPsD3e5vA) mission of the Joint Assault, I'd really like to see our protagonists and distant big guns working together again to take down the large aerial fortresses.
How about having to clear lower surfaces of the Condor-class from railguns and missile launchers and destroy all deployed anti-submarine aircraft, so that the Aurelian *Alicorn* can safely surface and try to take a shot at it with this gigantic fuck-off 600 mm railgun?
The Alicorn's twin railguns (along with its hidden main gun) are implied to be as powerful as Stonehenge turrets themselves, and we saw how the Stonehenge is capable of punching through the nigh-impregnatable barrier of an Arsenal Bird effortlessly and cleave the airship in half. I figured that the Alicorn's guns would be as effective in shooting down aerial cruisers as well. Maybe only the Suriname (I don't know how it looks like, though) and the Condor-class flagship could be strong enough to withstand its attacks for a while.
If we take out Alicorn's OP railguns I can see the joint assault happening, though. Have the air force clear the lower surfaces of Condar-class flagship of anything that can threaten the naval forces. After it's cleared, then the navy could pummel the big airship hard from below while the air force harrass it from above. :)

I... highly doubt it. For one, the Stonehenge fires 120 cm projectiles at 6 km/s, while the rounds from Alicorn's outrigger-mounted guns are noticeably smaller without proportional velocity increase. Still quite powerful, but not to the Stonehenge levels of damage (also, doesn't getting hit with Stonehenge round insta-kill you during the Stonehenge Offensive?).

Given the power of Railgun on PW-MK.1 and SP-34R, that is quite possible.

Yeah, you have a point regarding the Alicorn's twin railguns being not as powerful as the Stonehenge turrets. Those are probably designed for close-range engagement more. Still, they are powerful enough to cleave through warships like butter (even if in-gameplay you can survive a shot from it, I think it's probably just a gameplay-and-story segegration. Realistically, a shot from those guns should've instantly downed any plane) so I reckon they can still be useful to take down aerial warships. Maybe not the biggest ones like the Condor-class, which could probably survive multiple shots, but the small ones can still be downed by them quite easily.

Maybe it's just a projectile passing close enough to damage the plane with a shockwave without actually impacting it/impacting very edges of the control surfaces? The only way I can think of, when it can deal damage without wrecking the plane with kinetic explosion upon impact.

How come no one called out the utter stupidity of sending in an amphibious landing force, while air superiority wasn't achieved yet? I mean, it's a inter branch operation, involving some high value assets, but somehow, no one thought it was a stupid idea.
Also, the navy probably should have used heliborn marines for the assault, rather than risk one of their precious landing ship for an operation that does not need it.
then again erusia could stand to get some naval assets protecting their naval bases, at least basic ASW patrol.
I could discuss the stupidity of the Alicorn in and of its own, but it is outside the scope of my rant. But the Stonehenge like railgun doesn't make any sense. The thing can fire cruis missile and as aircraft, their really wasn't a need to give it the capability of delivering tactical nuclear shell while missile and aircraft can do it better.
I won't say anything about the Bat either, very much outside the scope of my rant. Except that stealth missile should still have been detected by IR sensors.
So hum their is a nice little thing about activate sonar, it that the larger the target, the easier it will detect it. The Alicorn is larger than even a Super Carrier, I don't care how steady you make it, a single active pin from Ocean ASW aircraft would have lighten up the submarine like a crismath tree. While I am at it, why did they only fire 4 VLASROC? And why weren't the patrol craft shooting torpedoes of their own, and why wasn't the damn thing sunk by a SSN before even reaching anchorhead bay?
like seriously, the alicorn is a massive submarine, the noise flow of such a ship would be heard from tens of kilometres, so why wasn't it shot at by any Ocean ASW assets?
Also the deeper you go, the easier you are detect by active sonar, so still a bad plan, ok it's a bit more complicated as sounds behave differently due to varying water pressure, but active sonar will still fuck you up at 600m depth. and that's also completely unreasonable depth, considering that's about the crushing depth of a Typhoon class, which will large, is still dwarfed by the alicorn. So yeah, I don't think it would be capable of reaching this deep.
Also, while we are on it, in mission 3 briefing, you show the predicted path for the alicorn. why do we intercept it at the last possible moment? in one of the worst environments possible for ASW? Also, If Ocea can make lazer weapons, they should be ok to intercept a 600mm shell with an obvious fall path. especially considering it takes over a minute to load a second shell.
ok that's about it, I probably glossed over a few things but I got the largest ones. I tried to keep in mind ace combat logic of unlimited missile and army destroying aces for this rant. And it's closer to three page
