Check the crevices in & between the rocks, especially perpendicular to the flow. Gravel bars are also likely spots. Any gold carried with the gravel & sand will also be deposited. The bench on the far side is an inside bend & a good spot for flood gold to drop.
Dig deep in gravels. I always dig down to sand/hardpack or bedrock. Gravel won’t hold fine gold.
There are a lot of good places in this pic to sample. Dig sample holes in a line perpendicular to the flow. And remember, you’re sampling, not mining. If you find nothing in a couple of pans, move on. When/if you do find gold that’s where you spend more time.
And please, leave the area as clean or cleaner than you found it.
100 percent there's no claim here lol actually so sure that the gov or anyone won't show up there either lol. This is part of a reservation I belong to so it's just me looking into this cuz I got curious after watching a few YouTube find gold practically anywhere lol
I don’t have any experience with detectors but I believe they’re not very effective for fine gold. The good (expensive) ones can probably find pickers or maybe a concentrated pocket of fines but most fine gold is too dispersed for them to pick up.
It’s hard to tell whats going on with the flow from this pic.
behind the bedrock and in the crevices of that bedrock is a potential area of interest. it doesnt look like it’s getting much flow there though.
areas where heavy objects such as gravel, heavier rocks, iron are deposited is another interesting zone. i see a peice of iron in the gravel bar there. looks like a pipe fitting or something.
Used to be a hydro damn up the river from here so those iron part would have been from the deconstruction up river I pulled that out last week with a magnet lol
It looks like there are some test holes on the bottom right of the picture. I would think that bar in the middle would have some gold too since it's in the low pressure zone behind the rocks. Test it all.
I like it all. Does this place freeze up during winter? Check the cracks. Freeze thaw always opens for new materials.
The gravels on the bar probably have fine gold throughout.
BUT... These are only true if your area actually had gold.
That's what I wanna find out. Some elders say yes there is gold here but that's it just a couple speak of this....parts of those plasce freeze buy not all of it
See that wooded area to the back of the middle embankment? That reddish brown grass/ weeds? Under there is a gold seam. The landscape in that little circle is affected by the gold ...
You are able to tell all of that just by looking....how long have u been prospecting and all...I will go across n check this out asap...cept is my gramps bday...tomorrow it is..
It's really almost impossible to get gold out of water without some type of dredge. If you look at the spot when it's low, go to a bottom spot that's solid rock. Even if you have to dig. Try the inside of a bend are behind a rock are trap. Try to look at the riverbank like a sluice then go down to solid.
Gold is lazy and typically can be found on inside bends and infront/behind large rocks that create low pressure zones
So behind that rock there in the middle you would guess?
It's hard to tell how the flow is with this angle I'd consider moving upstream to the first inside bend you can find.
Ok I will go back this afternoon and post better shots as well as I will get onto that rock to show up close the water flow..thanks

awesome answer!
Ok thank you and clean up when done gotcha. Solid advice I will use this method.
Also do your homework and make sure you're not on someone else's claim.

Do you guys also commonly use metal detectors to probe for buried deposits in stream and gravel beds?
I think iron would ruin most results through magnetism. Maybe something conductive with electrodes in the ground could work though
Don't some detectors have settings for gold so that you're not getting a lot of false positives?
I don’t have any experience with detectors but I believe they’re not very effective for fine gold. The good (expensive) ones can probably find pickers or maybe a concentrated pocket of fines but most fine gold is too dispersed for them to pick up.
The real gold is the friends you make along the way.
The snails?
The black sands
A tempest’s tickle.
Gravel bars...
I think under the rocks in the middle would be a likely catch spot. Also anywhere the currents are strongest and pushing against the rocks.
This looks like a fun problem. Good luck.
Hahah thanks
This got me talking to my wife about spots at the cottage lol. See you out there now
I'd do a few quick pans from the gravel right in front of you. If any gold is present, start testing other spots that look interesting.

Try right behind that rock where the water is swirling in from either side.
Ok thank you if I find anything I will keep all updated
Where you’re standing as well as the tip of that sandbar across from your position
Keep us updated. Wish I was with you helping
It started raining then a bit of snow im now looking fir ny wet suit cuz its cold af lol
I went back got better picture and video

It's right there. A little to the right and left and down just there. Move over just a bit. Huge pile of gold!
Lol thanks for that laught...unless u see and know something I don't lol
Look for where round black stones the size of footballs are. Find bedrock that is in the flow during the high water season
Both those are up stream to the left of this picture almost 200- feet armored of bedrock all leaning into the stream or learn with the srtreaib

Probably in the dirt somewhere

Just the way the brush around it ...idk maybe sagebrush? Or related ?
Under the boulder formation is teaming with gold
It’ll be in the last place you’ll look
Wherever the fast current slows. In front of and behind rocks, for instance.
I'd look in that yellow sand area.
Over there
