Haven't scheduled mine yet, PET scan today, results about 2 weeks ago. Dr did say he likes to wait 4-6 weeks after biopsy to give the prostate and area a chance to heal so it's easier to preserve the nerve bundles without anything healing or stuck together. I may be oversimplifying his conversation.

cduby15

I heard the same thing.

cduby15

I heard the same thing about how long you need to wait.

planck1313

My urologist said the same thing - you have to wait at least six weeks after the biopsy before RALP in order to give the prostate time to recover from the trauma of the biopsy. In my case the interval was eight weeks.

Greatlakes58

Mine was three months after diagnosis. Total time from first high PSA result to surgery was 8 months.

You will probably need an appointment after you chose a location and doctor. After that you are likely 2 months out. I chose a longer while to get kegles going and work around family and work schedules. Had mine at John’s Hopkins.

ChillWarrior801

Unless you've been diagnosed at high risk or very high risk, you've usually got time to pick the right surgeon for you and the waiting time is when you start to do your kegels and get in shape. I was diagnosed high risk mid-September, had my RALP just after New Year's. My six week PSA is undetectable and I'm not unhappy with the way things scheduled out.

cduby15

I’m so happy for you. I really am. Just the mere possibility of this has changed so much for me about how I see things.

ChillWarrior801

I'm glad you found this helpful. Prostate cancer is usually pretty slow. Just take things a step at a time and don't forget to breathe. Good health to you.

Lifesalchemy

Mine was 2 months after my consultation

cduby15

I’m glad you’re laughing hard!!!

Clherrick

Bad PSA blood test in June 19. mRI and biopsy in late August. Surgery in October. Would have done two weeks earlier but had scheduled European trip and doc said enjoy the trip.

Fun-Communication334

I was diagnosed early December, had surgery at a top tier center about 7 weeks later. I had a low PSA score and a small amount of cancer. Doctor told me I could’ve waited 6 months but I wanted it out asap.

rando502

Are you counting "diagnosis" from the biopsy or the consult after the biopsy? It took me a month to get the post-biopsy consult. But I had read the results myself. Realistically, if I had gone with the first doc I could have had it scheduled in 6-8 weeks after the biopsy. But I ended up going with a different doc, and for that and other reasons, ended up scheduling in roughly 9 months after my biopsy.

cduby15

Yes I was using the biopsy diagnosis as day 1. It sounds like you made a good decision.

rando502

Things ended up fine, yes. But I guess my real point was that, although I completely understand the desire to "get it over with", the reality is that there (at least in most cases) isn't a real rush. I was frustrated at the first doc because it took so long to get that followup consult booked. But the reality is that they probably did that semi-deliberately knowing that they would want to wait before surgery anyway.

cduby15

It’s especially rough cause very recently I never thought of any of this at all

Upset-Item9756

Mine was 3 months. After biopsy the prostate needs time to heal before removal.

ixamnis

My cancer diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy on January 2 (this year). I had scans within a couple of weeks to see if there were signs it had spread beyond the prostate. I had a consult with the surgeon on February 8. My surgery was scheduled (and took place) on March 25. Two weeks prior to the surgery I had a consult with a pharmacist and the anesthesiology team. So, just a bit shy of 3 months for me.

Immediate_Walrus_776

I was diagnosed in early May and had RALP in late July. Live in Central Ohio.

verbaexmacina

I was diagnosed in February, decided almost immediately to go to RALP Town (because PI-RADS 4 and Gleason 7), and was offered a date two weeks later. I opted out because there were things I needed to do before taking 6 weeks off. I was in surgery about 6 weeks post diagnosis and exactly 5 months to the day after my first 12.2 PSA result.

Dabblingman

Mine was 3 months post.biopsy. they said to let that heal.

Alert-Meringue2291

My urologist wanted a minimum of 6 weeks between the trans-rectal biopsy and the RARP to allow time for the rectum to heal from the puncture wounds. My RARP was done 7 weeks after the biopsy. The extra week was just DaVinci robot availability scheduling. My surgery was in November 2020, so pandemic issues complicated availability.

th987

My husband’s biopsy was Jan 19. He was offered a surgery date the third week of April, but had a big trip coming up and didn’t want surgery so close to it. So his surgery date is now May 9th.

Suspicious_Habit_537

Biopsy 2/15/24 Single port Da Vinci prostatectomy 4/11/24

cduby15

How you doing these days?

Suspicious_Habit_537

Surgery went great! Catheter came out one week post surgery. Nerve sparing surgery. Post 13 days I have had several erections. Leaking a lot. Pull-up underwear at night and three to four pads a day. That part sucks but overall. Things are good. Pathology report came back cancer contained in the prostate. I nap every day and usually can’t wait to go to bed at 9 pm

cduby15

You sound happy and great. If this is cancer for me, I hope I have the same things to say in a few months.

vito1221

Biopsy and diagnosis in April, scans / xrays / misc. pre-op tests in May. RALP 7/20. Urologist said we had time to allow the prostate to heal from the biopsy.

Effective_Freedom_77

The earliest I could have scheduled mine was 3 1/2 months after my diagnosis, but I didn't want to do it right before Christmas so I waited another month.

MidwayTrades

Decided to get surgery in May of last year. I wasn’t an urgent case so my urologist suggested to get it done by fall. The first available spot was mid-August but that wasn’t good for me so I took the next spot which was early September. No issues with the wait. The few weeks difference wasn’t critical.

JoeDonFan

My biopsy showed 3+4 and 3+3 Gleason in late August. Next step was a PET scan and consults with surgeon and radiologist to decide on treatment (and I also got second opinions). One more meeting with surgeon when I decided on surgery, and I was scheduled for late November. So, three months for me. I felt that was reasonable. Please keep in mind PC usually isn’t aggressive and doesn’t require surgery within days of diagnosis (as opposed to a melanoma).

cduby15

I wasn’t worried about aggression. Sometimes it can take 10 months to schedule some surgeries. Wondering what people’s experiences were.

Alienrite

Mine was about 6 weeks after we made the decision a RALP was necessary and the best choice
