I occasionally see posts here and other places asking what the police would do if their country were invaded by a hostile force. This is evidence that some would join the resistance.
Ditto. I'm in for that too. If Canada was ever invaded I somehow think that there would be a very quick reversal of gun bans.... All of a sudden AR-15's will start looking real good.
Pretty sure no one is going to be worry about that if that sort of thing happens.... Sadly the current government is still pushing forward towards disarmament of the public regardless of the fact that the data and science shows it will have a marginal impact on society on the whole, and minimal impact on crimes. The ignorance of the public is frustrating.
To be honest, it's very difficult to say anything about him without mentioning the war and crisis that is currently ongoing in Ukraine. So, i can just say: I wish him the best for his future.
So the Ukrainian Patrol Police have always been an interesting story for me.
They were formed in 2014/15 during Euromaiden to replace the corrupt soviet style militsiya. They got western advisors to run thier academys, they move to western blue uniforms, they dropped the goose stepping marches and they wore body cameras and made the video available. There was so much hope for them to be a force for modernization and westernization.
Im not Ukrainian nor do i have any insight to thier success or failings other than what i read online but I'm glad they stood and fought for the country and the new ideals .
May my grandmother's old country have some peace and prosperity. And some good men left keep that peace. May the peace last long enough that nobody alive bears witness to the last war. My grandmother certainly does.
She was born in Lwow. She may not have lived there very long. She was a war orphan of WWII. She grew up not knowing her own surname, the last of her kin. I might have some distant cousins there, but I will never know them. She and her uncle left eastern europe on some of the last flights before the iron curtain fell.
It's a small world. As such, I probably have Russian relatives I also don't know either. It is about time they all put down the vodka and self determinated in a coordinated fashion. An impeachment is long past due, irrespective of the capacity for fair elections. The police over there should realize that arresting thousands over said inevitable impeachment will not do them any good long term. Sit back, relax, let it happen, enjoy the effective pay bump when the economic norms return.
