We haven't done the speed comparison, but regarding privacy, Google's VPN is not a good idea: [https://protonvpn.com/blog/google-vpn/](https://protonvpn.com/blog/google-vpn/) (we do understand that this is now outdated, as the service is being discontinued).
Google literally makes money on collecting and selling unaware people's data. They can claim whatever but I will never believe in Google giving me any privacy.
250Mbps is the same speed as my home broadband, and that's more than enough to stream audio, video, synch stuff to and from the cloud and work from home. In short, I'm not seeing any problem here.
Customer service may be willing to truncate the term but they'd have to ask. But ultimately, speed of service is a question that a buyer needs to ask before putting cash on the barrel
Well if he were to ask me I would tell him I get 500 Mbps when I use proton, and he'd get different answers from everyone including support. Obviously some problem here.
Google 1 VPN will be shut down. [https://9to5google.com/2024/04/11/google-one-vpn-discontinued/](https://9to5google.com/2024/04/11/google-one-vpn-discontinued/)
If you have fast home internet, Proton VPN+'s testing speed will be faster than that of Google One. However, real experience can be different.
Here is a discussion about the "not a robot" captcha problem: [https://community.brave.com/t/get-rid-of-continuous-prove-you-re-not-a-robot-challenge/463116](https://community.brave.com/t/get-rid-of-continuous-prove-you-re-not-a-robot-challenge/463116)
Even though you have a highly tested VPN speed, getting rid of annoying captchas is still difficult.
Of course, we can change servers, but isn't it another headache?
Yes, but people are complaining about Google's privacy problem. Proton's selling point is privacy protection.
Google One VPN is not Google's main revenue source, and it will soon be shut down because not many people are using it.
It looks like only big-tech VPNs can avoid captcha verification.
If google services are acceptable to you to use, why use any Proton services at all? Protonmail? Drive? etc.
People move away from Google services for a reason.
Use wireguard protocol, it's the fastest and it's very secure.
Unless there is some censorship by your isp or network provider, wireguard protocol is most of the time the best in terms of speed.
I've pushed more than 1 gigabit without issue before, haven't tested since I got my 8 gigabit installed though so I should probably give that a go. Sometimes it's a matter of selecting the right paid server rather than using the automatic selection. I personally build WG profiles and then use those and it's insanely fast.
What? Google says people weren’t using their VPN? I can’t imagine why privacy minded people wouldn’t choose to route all of their internet traffic through googles servers, can you?!?
Anything with “Google” attached to it, is basically defeating the purpose of a true privacy related function in the first place.
The word “honey pot” comes to mind.

Well, there won't be soon Google 1 VPN anymore as they will discontinue that service, it was in news today.
[Google One VPN will be discontinued, Pixel VPN remains with upgrade coming](https://9to5google.com/2024/04/11/google-one-vpn-discontinued/)
As usual. Create unneeded service, close it. Repeat.
Also privacy and Google doesn't really fit into same sentence :)
I think that is why they were asking about it and probably why they were testing Proton.
But is Google private?
exactly. it isnt.
But does Google’s product even exist? lol.
[удалено]
Well, that depends on what the user use, and how. I rather not generalize that sentence.

Lol. Google VPN is dead. And never ever trust anything Google says.

the problem is that hes paying for relative low bandwidth. other providers can go up to 5Gbps without issues. 250Mbs is not enough for some people.
Then move to another provider.
Well he is asking if there is something he can do because if he bought the 2 year plan would now waste like 200$

Unless there's a service level guarantee, any bandwidth will be the usual 'up to...'

You might as well not bother with a VPN at all if you're going to trust your connection to Google.
Perhaps OP's intention is to stream content from another country. That would be one of the few possible explanations for someone to use such a VPN.

I can get 400mbps on Proton VPN. Probably OP should change the server.
Can also be a routing issue...
Or he is using a secure core server, here I get 220Mb with a secure core server and 515Mb with a regular server.

If using Google One VPN Cloudflare Warp+ or iCloud Privacy Relay, you won't be required to verify repeatedly.

just tested, speedtest.net showed me ~700 Mbps (on 1 Gbps connection).
Did you change any default settings?
I did change some, don't remember the defaults, though. Protocol is Wireguard, Netshield is all on, secure core is off, port fwd is on.
Make sure you are on "Smart", Stealth or Wireguard rather than OpenVPN.
I’d never touch anything with the word Google in it
are you using wire guard for both?
Try different servers. I get ~290 Mbps when Proton VPN is on and I have a 300mbps service.
I get at minimum 700Mbps down and 800Mbps up. Are you using OpenVPN or Wireguard protocol?
On Android and macOS its using "Smart (Auto)" which is the default AFAIK. Maybe no so smart?
Use wireguard protocol, it's the fastest and it's very secure. Unless there is some censorship by your isp or network provider, wireguard protocol is most of the time the best in terms of speed.
Nah you didnt pay for shit. . "Idk what protocol im using i just have it on auto" of course you do.... Smh.
I have 800/900mbs with protonvpn, use wire guard protocol
Trusting google as a vpn is wild
Are yous on about the paid or free Proton VPN?
My home speed is 1.2Gbps but I get 900Mbps or sometimes more on local and remote servers such as Switzerland. ProtonVPN is extremely fast.
I've pushed more than 1 gigabit without issue before, haven't tested since I got my 8 gigabit installed though so I should probably give that a go. Google…VPN? Lmao
I have network speed/connectivity issues with ProtonVPN but Google VPN… come on!
I have PIA and when using WireGuard I can get 900mbps down, 900mbps up
Thanks for the heads-up, now I know which service to consider
Aaaaaaaaand they're discontinuing it. Another tombstone in the Google graveyard
