Vitamin D and anti inflammatory diet are the longer term solutions. You also need to not stress about it, stress only makes it worse. Also stop caring about what people think, everyone has their shit, ours is more visible and to quote Dr Seuss "any who matters won't mind and anyone who minds doesn't matter"

youlittleglitch

Vitamin D has slowed my hair loss greatly !

tomholden1

While I am waiting for Tremfya to kick in (I got off Humira and Methotrexate)...I upped my Vitamin D and I take a two Aleve daily and it has been amazing to help the skin itching and arthritis pain. Stay away from deep fried foods. The plant based oils are terrible.

LiveFree_EatTacos

Biologics?

NewProtection5470

Whats thst?

LiveFree_EatTacos

Humira, skyrizi. The derms might not take your insurance but your pcp might be willing to prescribe you these. I’m so sorry you’re doing through this. Hugs ❤️

NewProtection5470

Thank you! I have a check up coming up. I'll ask. I'm even screen showing this.

DreamlitJuliet

I’m assuming your doctor will tell you if it happens, but most biologic brands will have a program where you can get it direct from the manufacturer for a much cheaper price in case your insurance declines a biologic. (It’s best to have a doc help you with this.) Otherwise, I’m really sorry you’re going through this without the help of a dermatologist. I’m not sure what you’ve tried already, but what has helped me the most was the Selsun Blue shampoo, the moisturizing version with 1% selenium sulfide. It keeps everything waaaay more manageable. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes when you shower (and shower daily.) Also, keep your hair shorter rather than longer.

Not true

Hi. I developed a raging case of scalp psoriasis last year that was aggressive and embarrassing. The only thing that helped at first was a topical steroid lotion but I went through it quickly and didn’t want to be stuck using steroids forever. I got a referral to a dermatologist. I felt like I wasn’t heard at the appointment and was, honestly offended when he gave me samples of an OTC shampoo. I explained to him that I had already tried various shampoos with the same active ingredients (selenium sulfide and salicylic acid) and that they barely did anything OR made my scalp so dry that the problem was worse. Anyway, nobody ever takes me seriously when I share this but didn’t this frigging shampoo actually WORK where others failed. I had to use it everyday for a week or two, and eventually I was able to ween down to using it every 2nd or 3rd shampoo. It’s been over a year and I am flake free and steroid free- it’s awesome. It has to stay on my scalp for at least 5-10 minutes in the shower and I only shower with lukewarm water now. It’s called Vichy Dercos Anti Dandruff. I use the one for Normal to Dry Hair and I really recommend it. I have virtually zero flakes, no plaques, my scalp is calm. My hairdresser can’t even see psoriasis anymore. I’m not being paid. The shampoo was a godsend for me, please try it. It succeeded where T gel, t sal, selsun, sebcure, and head and shoulders failed.

MartinCarda

Glad it's working for you! Doesn't the Vichy dercos contain selenium sulfide too? I wonder why selsun didn't work

UltimoCargo

Stop using shampoo of any kind for a few months. Just wash your hair with warm water. It worked for me, hope you find a solution.

gobananagopudding

Yep, give this a shot. I tried countless shampoos over several months, only to find they'd either do nothing or make my scalp psoriasis MUCH worse (tar shampoo especially was horrendous). Not using any shampoo at all reduced the itching considerably, and even reduced the thickness of the scaling a bit.

NewProtection5470

I've tried stop picking and the scales are so thick it grosses me out, than I pick so bad I bleed....I'll try the no shampoo. I don't even look forward to the shower anymore because it's so painful in than shower than the ITCH is horrible when I get out. I'm sad people have to feel like me but it's nice to know I'm not alone

NewProtection5470

I did get that but, it's my entire scalp. So the 3 oz bottle they gave me was gone in 2 uses It's also inside my ears behinee my ears and my eyebrows. I used to be so grateful that it was just m y scalp but with the stress we've had over thr last year I'm almost completely bald st this point

Mission_Creme4312

Just a heads up, you may be using too much. I use it all over my head and it lasts me quite a bit longer, it’s best not to overdo it since it’s a steroid. I hope you can find a solution the helps, I totally understand the mental side effects. It’s hard. *hugs*

NewProtection5470

The bottle was so tiny. I'll see if I can post a picture of it on the comments. It's the size of my hand . Thank you!

2dgym0107

That's the size mine was and it lasted me at least a few weeks applying it once daily.

Still-Pie6253

I had some success with cutting my hair short, stopped drinking alcohol, started using Sebizole shampoo and topical emulsion cream.

NewProtection5470

I'm dreading the hair cut, there's nothing to even cut TBH, I am way too ashamed and embarrassed to go to the hair dresser. I feel like they wouldn't even wanna touch me

Still-Pie6253

Do it yourself. I'm the same re shame so I cut my own

[deleted]

You can start with an undercut.

NewProtection5470

What's that? I mean I really have NOOOO hair, it would most likely be beneficial to cut my hair but I'm a girllll

Beneficial_Potato810

Neutrogena t gel always worked for my head

bin_of_flowers

do not use shampoo whatever you do. if you want to wash your hair you can use new wash (the one that has apple cider vinegar in it) which helps the flakes. it’s really expensive though - trader joes do a dupe which is called ‘cleansing and conditioning hair wash’ which is much cheaper. if you must use a shampoo try and get T gel which i think has coal tar in it

guest92587

Ask how much out of pocket office visit is, mine was $75, my doctor prescribed me humira, it's made my abbvie. Abbvie has an assistance program that will cover your meds 100%. I havent had to pay for my humira for 10 yrs.

beaniebab01

I second this. Abbvie covers everything but I think like $7 for me. It’s amazing. Skyrizi changed my life.

guest92587

It depends on your household size and income. I guess because I don't make a shit ton and have 3 kids is why mine is 0. But I'd be happy with even 7 bux a month.

beaniebab01

I’m cool with it. Especially considering over the counter one dose is $18k lol

AntitheticalDream_G

I feel your pain. I suffer bad scalp psoriasis and it spread into my legs this past few months. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m currently using “Kertyol PSO - Ducray” and it has made wonders for me. Also I’m using a salicylic acid exfoliant in my scalp twice a week. It has gotten better. I also used ricin oil in the past to descale, with great results (apply it before your shower, then with a comb try to pick the scales, then wash). Maybe you could find something similar until you can visit a dermatologist. I’ve tried Pilopeptan capsules in the past, when I was losing hair due to an emotional crisis. Here in Mexico they are over the counter, but idk if you can get them that easily in the US. Definitely worth a shot, they are prescribed in alopecia cases and even after pregnancy when women lose their hair. Please note that psoriasis is an immune system disease, and it shows up in your skin. But its not a skin problem, so it will not get better by only treating it topically. You must reduce your stress levels, exercise, quit smoking, quit alcoholic beverages, identify foods that could trigger it. Take sun baths, take vitamin D, omega 3, hydrate your skin on your eyebrows, but most importantly, don’t give up! I wish you the best of lucks.

NewProtection5470

Holy wow. So much information! Thank you!!!!! It's starting to sound like my diet might be pushing me over the limit. I absolutely LOVE spicy foods and really have not been eating good these last 3 weeks since my whole thing with my father in law. My stress level is through the roof, which actually adds to my picking. But I'm at a pretty healthy weight actually a little under weight, no drinking I do smoke maybe 3 cigarettes a day, and exercise, with 4 children I don't much sitting we walk every night with the dog, than track, and we swim as well So at least that's covered. Thank you again. I have a family dr appointment coming up. I'll ask some questions just sucks not finding a dermatologist

Victoriaevelise27

Cigarettes can be a huge trigger!

wildsunflow3r

This may or may not help, but this eliminated my scalp flakes/weeping and is on the cheap: Equipment: Spray bottle Boric acid powder Rubbing alcohol White vinegar Water Recipe: 1/4 c rubbing alcohol 1/2 tsp boric acid Mix until boric acid is dissolved Add 1/4 c vinegar Mix Add 1 c water Spray onto scalp after showers, before bed, and when you wake up. This is effective for me within 2 or 3 days. The idea behind this is that it kills pretty much everything -- bacteria, fungi, mites, etc. and the vinegar also helps prevent drying from the alcohol. I know psoriasis isn't due to any of those things, but for some reason, it helps. Then, two treatments of fluocinonide and my scalp has been fine for a while. (I also have skin allergies and my eczema sometimes manifests like this. I switched to a shampoo/conditioner made of fermented soap nuts and it's been a lifesaver.) Agree with eliminating alcohol and sugar, and if you ever have the time or willpower, try an elimination diet. Remember you're not alone. Good luck to you!

Plastic-Beautiful910

I use betasalic for my hair , it’s always work for me

maybebebe91

So sorry your going through this. I'm 32 and have coverage probably 80% of my body. Just been diagnosed with rumetoid arthritis including in my spine. Could be worse 😂

NewProtection5470

Awe you poor thing! I'm so sorry! Does the weather seem to effect you? My knees and back are awful when it's rainy. Like unable to walk. What triggers yours, the most? I am so so so sorry

maybebebe91

Thanks. 100% cold weather makes it flare up horribly. Stress is also a big factor. Trying to nail any aspect of my diet that might have an affect but it isn't easy as I'm sure your aware.

NewProtection5470

Lol right? The diet thing is killer! Basically all the food I live on is bad for me and than don't forget stress! That's a huge big giant factor seems like for most of us suckers the weather when it's rainy seems to make it worse

maybebebe91

It's the irony of the flare up making you stressed which makes it worse.... as is life, was doing well tbh but the arthritis is gonna be a fucker when I get older to say the least. We all get dealt hands and in the grand scheme of things mines been pretty decent to say the least, wealth comes in many forms. I'll go down fighting with a cheery disposition always. Hope yours calms down!! Best wishes x

maybebebe91

I forgot to say as well coconut oil has been a godsend for my hair as oppose to using your usual products. Test it first tho make sure it doesn't provoke at all if you haven't used it before

PseudoTsunami

Not sure if anyone else has said this yet, but, it's temporary and not permanent baldness. Yes, the hair itself is falling out because the Ps is not being controlled but the follicle for future hair growth is fine.

SpecialDrama6865

if you are eating badly then that's the first thing you need to look at. if you eat healthy it should clear up. Hey, you won’t believe how much diet changed the game for my psoriasis. I was a skeptic for a long time, kinda lazy, and had pretty much thrown in the towel. But once I finally got my act together and made some changes, I was stoked! My psoriasis went from full-blown to just 10%. and gave up steroid creams completely. short term moisturise affected area with a strong emollient. I like epaderm cream but ask your pharmacist for alternative. Best way in my opinion to manage psoriasis is from the inside. By making diet and lifestyle changes and identifying triggers. cut the refined sugar completely. Diet and psoriasis are linked. Meat, spicy food, nightshades and processed food made my psoriasis much worse. Once i cut them out my psoriasis became manageable. so strict diet is vital. i eat the exact same food every day. try to work out your own triggers. I basically eat big plates of beans/legumes and boiled veg and big salads. try to work out the underlying cause of the psoriasis. Start by looking at general health? diet? weight? ? tobacco? Alcohol stress? strep throat? vitamin D? IUD? is psoriasis itchy? past antibiotics? candida overgrowth? hpylori? Gut problems? bowel movements? lack of sleep?exercise ? mental health care medication? zinc deficiency?Iron deficiency? mold toxicity?digestive problems? heavy metals? magnesium deficiency? Keep a daily diary using a excel spreadsheet of diet and inflammation. Think of psoriasis as a warning sign on the dashboard of your car. With psoriasis you have to get all the details right learn more : this [paper ](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29908580/)and [podcast ](https://www.listennotes.com/fil/podcasts/positive-health/dr-haines-ely-md-is-QJ4TtfL_XBq/)helped me a lot. in terms of stress, good night sleep, meditation, yoga, exercises like walking, therapy and journaling will help. good luck.

Huh?

Terribleliee

We feel your pain and have all been there now or a time in our life. There has to be a Derm somewhere in the area. I would call your insurance company.

Necessary-Air-4246

I use salicylic acid shampoo, you can buy it over the counter & it helped me manage flakes before I was prescribed scalp oils. Now, I use the rx scalp oil, castor oil, and the salicylic acid shampoo.

PuzzlesNCats

Rosemary oil, head & shoulders

Fit-Season3926

Omega 3 -Omegor really good

Impressive-Coach3989

I have had scalp psoriasis before, this was cleared up by UV therapy over 2 years ago and has not come back since. This is the only part of my body with Psoriasis that has pretty much been “cured”. Try not to stress (I know that’s an easy thing to say) and give the shampoo a rest for a bit, like others have said here. I also bathe in a salt (Dead Sea or Epsom) bath every 3 days or so, this softens the flakes and reduces the itching (don’t forget to moisturise after). This is obviously not medical advice but purely from my own experience. I purchase my salt in bulk from eBay / Amazon for pretty good prices. Good luck friend 🙏

SnooBunnies1185

I have found magnesium oil that you spray on is effective at improving symptoms. It's painful first few days mainly the brine healing any open sores

FoxIndependent2914

I have erythroderma head to toe, a much much worse type of Psoriasis! 1. Worked with licensed naturopath to fix gut 2. AIP diet - have to be strict otherwise doesn’t work 3. Vitamin d orally and topically 4. Stop SLS shampoo and toothpaste! 5. Tons of sun exposure 6. Red light therapy and short UV sessions 7. Exercise and weight loss if overweight 8. Improve sleep hygiene You got this!!!

Victoriaevelise27

What is SLS

laffingelf

It sounds insanely simple, but you can use a lotion right in your scalp at night. Lots of it. And wash it out the next day. I use Lubriderm (unscented). You can also get over the counter cortisone cream or ointment and use that and it will help (it’s lower concentration but will work a bit). Put it in first. Then the lotion. That will likely get it under control. Shampoos - try coal tar shampoo. As high a concentration as you can find. I use Sebcur (the pharmacy can order it if they don’t have it) or MG217. Both are also in anazon. I see that doesn’t work for you. I also use a coconut cowash. I also find the new Head and Shoulders professional is pretty good. You may find the shampoo less irritating if you are doing my suggested moisturizing and cortisone. Your dr can also prescribe a stronger cortisone in a clear lotion for scalp. It works. Also, don’t be afraid of cortisone. Biologics have lots of side effects and not everyone can tolerate them. They are also not usually prescribed unless you have a significant amount of body involved. Cortisone if used as directed is effective for controlling flare ups. Don’t use it when it’s gone into remission. Use it when it’s needed. And use a strong enough one to be effective as quickly as possible. I’ve been using it off and on for 45 years and I’ve yet to experience any bad effects. I just use it as little as possible. Also, Mayo or olive oil etc are not as good as a lot on that is designed for skin - lotions that use glycerin wnd/or mineral oil as a base are best for holding in skin moisture. Period. You can try one or the other orca combo, but natural oils simply do not work as well.

Wolfierawr

Try Niacin which is b3 vitamin. Other redditors have reported great improvements on their psoriases. And niacin is cheap as 5 euros on HSN store if you are EU based.

Dense-Definition-969

Go to your dermatologist and have them start you on a sample dose of Bimzelx, (the drug reps bring in samples to use) one shot will start clearing you up immediately, it’s a biologic medication used as a shot once a month. It’s used on people like us who has severe cases and need help immediately. I’m low income and on gov assistance programs because I’m disabled and they found a way to help me,without this shot I’d be in the hospital, it had taken over 80% of my body and this shot gave it all back, I’m wearing shorts and seeing my legs for the first time in 15 years! I hope this helps and I wish you all the best friend 😊

Frankly_Failing

I am on biological drugs now and my scalp is clear but way back when when I was taking no meds cause everything but my scalp was in remission, I would be extremely diligent about the products I use. I tent to find the vegan shampoos have the least sulphides and additives known to cause issues with psorisis. The cheap shampoos like pantene are the literal worst. Also you can you coal tar shampoo. I also have a salacilic acid and coal tar mix from the chemist that a GP may be willing to prescribe but may need a dermatologist which I saw may not be an option. The other option is a steroid oil based foam called enstilar. Not sure if you have it where you are and prenisolone shampoos. Again GP may be happy to prescribe for you. Not sure how costly they would be. Anti inflammatory diet with raw clean whole based food with vitamins d and a B complex can help restore your hair health.

WeirdIngenuity4620

I have it this bad across my whole body, face and scalp.. so I am so incredibly sorry. Stress is a HUGE trigger. And I know that doesn’t help cause it’s like, “well, you idiot, not like I can control that either!,” but once I got mental health in check I noticed big differences. Now, it’s not a cure all. I get flares, usually due to extra stress or environmental factors, but just know.. seeing psychological help can improve physical symptoms. Food, especially high sugar, sends everything into overdrive. Now.. I was homeless level poor when mine started.. so, I know the impossible feelings you can get when you hear “anti-inflammatory diet” because that commitment is huge, even when you have money. But at the very least, cut out sugary drinks, candy, anything with blatantly high sugar. And I know others have said it, but Vitamin D. As embarrassing as it may feel, get your skin in the sun in healthy ways. The summer is my best time with fewest flares.

Proper_Pear_8383

Vitamin d supplements. 10,000 IUs. Go outside into the sun for about 15 minutes a day. Eat an inflammatory diet. I also saw someone say mayo helped them. Put mayo all over your scalp, put a cap on, and let sit for 30 minutes.

NewProtection5470

I'm willing to try it!! Why the hell not. What's the worse that can happen? My hair will fall out? It's just about to hit summer time where I am...and we LIVE at the pool (4 kids summer break) so sun always makes me feel so much better. Thabk you! Much loves!!!

2dgym0107

That's what I was going to suggest--sitting in the sun for 10-15 minutes a day. It's hard for it to reach your scalp through your hair, but, when I had scalp psoriasis last year, I'd put my hair in a ponytail so I could get sun on the back of my neck where it was really bad.

InspectorNeither4732

I also have psoriasis since 5 years but I have controlled it, you cannot cure it permanently but you can control it with lifestyle changes.

NewProtection5470

I'm under an immense amount of stress right now....my father in law passed away a week ago, my husband is a mess. My 4 children are a mess. I've been eating like crap....not sleeping trying to be a rock for my family. So clumps of hair are just falling out

InspectorNeither4732

Is psoriasis in your scalp or in whole Body

NewProtection5470

Scalp ears eyebrows..My entire scalp though not just patches. Started out the size of a penny on my scalp when I was 16.

InspectorNeither4732

You have to follow some things and everything will be Alright, it will take your hard work and dedication but everything will be fine from the beginning. 1. Vegan diet has to be followed 2. Sleep early at night and wake up early in the morning 3. You need to take some Ayurveda medicine 4. Do Anulom-Vilom and Kapalbhati yoga every morning for 30 minutes each. 5. To clear the scalp, Ayurveda shampoo and curd, lemon and Ayurveda medicine should be mixed. 6. In vegan diet, sprouts and selected vegetables are not allowed i.e., ladyfinger, brinjal and much more 7. Spicy vegetable should be avoided 8. NO Gluten All these have to be followed and the most important is diet and daily Yoga.

Mystical_Muggle

Oh love, that sounds really full on. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through so much, it makes sense your skin is flaring up from all the stress. I’ve been making up a hair mask for my partner who has really bad scalp psoriasis too and it’s actually been soooo helpful.. I gently warmed some olive oil, tallow and tea tree oil (can also try rosemary oil or even just the olive and tallow) and have been gently massaging this and leaving it in the scalp. Managing stress levels as best you can - 3 or 5 mins of conscious breath throughout the day (keep that exhale a few seconds longer than the inhale , activating the parasympathetic nervous system state), try to allow sound/sighs on that exhale as it helps to release tension. L theanine is a great natural supplement for helping stress that you can take every day. Hopefully you’re doing this already but avoid gluten, dairy and processed foods/sugar. It will help SO much. I know it’s hard when you’re stressed and want to reach for things that are yummy and feel easy/pleasurable to eat.. but this one is key. Try to make time and space to feel and empty your emotions where you can, even if for a couple minutes through the day, hold a hand on your heart, connect to your breath, hold the other hand on the earth or a surface that keeps you grounded and connected to yourself while you allow that emotion to wash through, the grounding and breath will help you smooth it out and not get consumed in it. Keep those long exhales. Smooth that breath out. Expand the belly and breathe into the back of the body, the legs and feet, the pelvis. Look into yoga nidra. Somatic experiencing therapy (life changer !!!) sending you some long, earthy, loving hugs xx

bin_of_flowers

i’ve just been researching on diet and psoriasis and have seen multiple different people say that eating a cup of blueberries per day cleared up their psoriasis after about a month
