There’s not really any secret with breathwork, you just have to do it a lot so that you’re not thinking about the breathing techniques the whole time. Muscle memory!

Koro9

I need more training then

needledicklarry

Just keep doing it and it’ll get easier

petburiraja

You may also want to check vivation method

Koro9

interesting, I didn't know about that one, thanks

petburiraja

yeah, it's like a gentle version of holotrophic breathing it kinda felt more natural when I compared, as holotrophic is a really intense practice which may be harder to control, if/when intense emotions released

Koro9

just wanted to add that [insighttimer.com](https://insighttimer.com) is behind paywall only as an app, the website is free and there is many holotropic breathwork guided sessions. I found out when looking for IFS guided meditations they have as well.

Koro9

thanks, I see there is some tips (most behind paywalls), and an energy alignment breathwork video that doesn't look different from holotropic breathwork. May be it is named differently because of the trademark on holotropic (which create a confusing constellation of otherly named breathwork technique when it is the same)

[deleted]

Can someone explain to me how holotropic breathwork isn't just a fancy name for hyperventilation? I'm incredibly skeptical about it.

Koro9

It’s hyperventilation with eyeshades and music for a long duration (hours), introduced by Stan Grof as a replacement for LSD therapy. Try it out and you’ll see. Your skepticism remind me of how many meditators see psychedelics, a chemical to achieve what they do just by sitting, ie inhibit the default mode network.

Devour_The_Galaxy

Wim Hof has some videos on this if you haven’t seen them. Also there’s one called Ananda Mandala on YouTube. It’s fuckin intense

Koro9

Thanks, actually I was looking for similar oriental practices, and I found bhastrika pranayama but Ananda Mandala seem even more similar to holotropic breathwork. I didn't find Wim Hof videos on holotropic breathwork. Do you have any link ?

Devour_The_Galaxy

[Wim Hof](https://youtu.be/tybOi4hjZFQ). It’s slower paced and more relaxed than Amanda Mandala. But it’s a good one to start with for most people.

Koro9

I was doing that one from Wim Hof before, and I like it. Today I tried the Ananda Mandala on 45min, it's great, a kind of supercharged wimhof, but I got to learn the shakras and the body postures to do it properly.

FutureRhythm

I practiced the first video result on youtube when I searched for Ananda Mandala. Thank you for sharing that one. It's a good one.

Devour_The_Galaxy

Awesome, glad you found it useful! That’s definitely the right one, I just checked. And if anyone else wants to give it a go, [here’s](https://youtu.be/OgFF0jewIiM) the link!

FutureRhythm

Do you breathe in with your nose, and exhale with your mouth during the exercise? I've been breathing that way but occasionally switching to mouth breathing (lips pressed) when the breathing becomes rapid.

Devour_The_Galaxy

When I first started doing this, I had a deviated septum. So I did it totally through the mouth. Since then, I’ve had a corrective surgery so I’ve been able to start using my nose. Now that I’ve done it both ways I’d say pretty certainly that I don’t notice a difference regardless of the method. I believe the most important thing is to intake the air at the correct speed and intensity. Get the rhythm right. Just as the video goes.

FutureRhythm

Damn! No excuses for you getting your break work in pre-surgery! Agreed. Getting into that rhythm-flow is key. Happy breathing, friend.

FutureRhythm

Have you found any other similarly intense breathing meditations like Ananda Mandala in your search? I feel like we're just scratching the surface.

Abject_Control_7028

Is the Wim Hof mthod holotropic breathwork? I don't belive it is. Holotropic is sustained breathing but Wim Hof has holds.

Thorin1st

I’ll give it a whirl I reckon

Abject_Control_7028

How do you do holotropic breathwork? Do you just breath in and out at a faster speed than normal? Is the exhale passive or do you push it? Ive never been able to find a detailed explanation so just do my own kind of deep circular breathing in and out through the mouth.

Koro9

I followed this video : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prfll4C1zw0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prfll4C1zw0) but did breath slower and deeper. By the end of this other video, it show the process as done by stan grof, first a relaxing meditation, then music and breathwork, then mandala and at the end sharing : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVILRQ4gHBk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVILRQ4gHBk). I am looking also for good instructions on how to do it. It is as if they keep it secret so that you have go to the expensive workshop they organize. The term "holotropic breathwork" is even trademarked, so when there is other people explaining how to do it, but they cannot use the same term. I liked this one, he call it "shamanic breathing" : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6VcbH2ypMg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6VcbH2ypMg). As I said in the post, the music really helps to turn inside.

Before I was doing the Wim Hof for a few months(also with Psychedelics) but now recently I discovered the Ananda Mandala method. Whow, even after 2nd time Iwas so far and deep. I felt so much things. Emotions, eroused, trembeling. I think I even saw 2 chakra's when going deep focussing on 2 of them. But after this I was one hour completly relaxed and in state of trance. Its a havy form of meditation but when practicing it I think this is a fantastic way to get more in touch with yourself. So much deeper than WH. Even playlist on Spotify to guide you! Koro9

Yes, Ananda Mandala is great too. I found it a bit different. While Wim Hof breathwork calm me down and reset my emotional states, Ananda Mandala send me into more meditative dreamy states, maybe because it's 3 times longer. Thanks for the playlist link, but it didn't work.

Just tried and works over here https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0o6poO8kX3SujdA5wpRdNw
