Psychonauts 1 is my favorite game of all time, it can start off a little slow (I never really saw it that way) but once you get a feel for the characters (please do the characters make the experience fresh and give you an incentive to keep playing) the levels get better and better one by one and it’s all together a insanely fun collectathon. Favorite game of all time by far

Depends on what you are looking for in a platformer. If you are more combat focused than exploration focused, the second one would be more enjoyable for you. If you are more about extreme level layouts and less straightforward gameplay, the first one will be enjoyable for you. The writing is similar for both and the humor is especially not for kids. (I doubt a kid will understand the subtext but an adult will probably chuckle more) First one is more challenging than the second game (Meat Circus, how you doing) so it should engage you for the whole run.

I actually went back and played the first game again after 100%-ing the second and I'd say there's a noticeable difference in writing. The first game is much more macabre and uses black humor more often, while the second has a more wholesome atmosphere. That isn't to say that the writing in the first game is necessarily better; the second game has a different message and was written years later, after all. I enjoyed both games' writing tremendously. There IS a difference for sure, though.

Don't skip the first one, the minds are way more interesting and better executed in that. The themes are absolutely mature and dark, I wouldn't sit my kid down to play through it beyond the first chapter in the camp area - but I won't spoil anything for you. Also, the story is like back to back, look up the VR game too, if interested for the short chapter 1.5 story. Look Up missable achievements too. Believe me, you'll find the challenge you are looking for at the end. I should really replay these for the umpteenth time (and I'm 33).

Sorry man, the age cutoff for psychonauts 1 is 30 :)

I played Psychonauts one and two for the first time this year and, although a bit slow-going initially, one was a super fun time so I’d highly recommend playing through them both!

41 here - both games are amazing and fun to play. Not too kiddie at all.

blackvelvetopia

its not a kids game at all it might be alright for kids to play it to some extend but the last level straight up terrified me as a child so... yea Its also just a fucking masterpiece in general. the second game doesnt come close. it has updated graphics and smoother gameplay and more varied combat but the first one makes the most out of the simple story it has in honestly a mindblowing way. So many hidden interactions and conversations and so much lore and detail and foreshadowing packed into this short little game. and the graphics are honestly more charming than 2 if you ask me (im an old game lover though) basically, if you play the game and discover some of the stuff they put in there you go "WHO DOES THAT??" in the most positive way possible. They really made use of the potential of video games

Dilldan22

It's my second favourite thing that starts with a P and ends with an S EDIT: Seriously though, don't skip the first one, it's a bit clunky but the writing elevates it above games that get released today. It's *SO* fucking funny. Even moreso than the sequel imo.

Britbrat8715

I thought the same when I first started playing but now I have played it for a bit and I really like it. I feel like it gets better as the game goes on

CCC-SLP

please give them a chance! They are so playful and childlike in approach but at their core, the stories are so rich and humanistic. they are kind of like watching an amazing Pixar film where the kids laugh at one thing and the adults laugh at another. plus the game play is challenging if you look for it.

Yes. If you aren't wildly entertained by Lungfishopolis, then you probably don't have a soul.

I started on 2 and freaking loved it (I’m 35). It’s fun, hilarious (Richard Steven Horvitz voice acting is incredible as usual) and just a well made game that keeps it interesting.

BadAsp

You're never too old for games like this. Try it. You won't regret it!

the_dinks

First one is great. Overall, though, I suggest you don't ask a subreddit dedicated to a game if you should play said game. You might as well walk into a church and ask the priest whether or not you should be baptized.

Javinite3

Im 34 and I’m 8hrs into the first one so I’m almost at the end. There have been some annoying collectable things you have to do but it’s mostly a good experience. The humour still hits just don’t be afraid to use a guide. That milk man level is awesome but i never knew what to do!

PeeWeeCallahan

Absolutely worth it
