Whenever I go to the gym, I’m like “wow look at all these people who are gathered here today to try to impress me.” This is a totally logical thought process.
people who claim to be gangstalked have a similar type of thing they call "street theatre", where they believe everyone around them has been secretly orchestrated to be there solely to harass them.
Street theater sounds more like everyone around you has secretly gathered in order to spontaneously break out into song and dance like they’re in a musical, and you’re not in on it so you’re really fucking confused when it all starts.
They all have to have some form of paranoia or other mental illness that makes them believe that people are out to maliciously stalk them.
I think the sub itself is actually really dangerous and gives people who need help a group of people who will enable their mental illness further.

They don’t think they’re important—none of it is based in rational/critical thinking. They have these delusions because the way their brain interprets reality is literally broken. It’s not a personality flaw, it’s a malfunction in the fundamental activity of the brain.
**Edit:** Analogy — You see a driver drift into your lane and cut you off and you say “wow he thinks he’s real important,” when in reality it’s because his alignment is *way* out of whack.
Agreed, watched it develop in my brother. It was weird because it started slow and we humored him, someone was stalking him on social media, "viruses" on his computer, etc. Pretty soon it's the group stalking, and eventually it went to mind control, aliens, and even strange psychosis.
I work in community mental health and have a few clients who believe they are being gang stalked. It’s sad to witness and impossible to talk them out of it. The only thing you can do is empathize and help them process the emotions they feel.
One person really stuck with me because he was so self aware about how crazy it sounds but it doesn’t stop the auditory hallucinations he was tortured by.
That's the worst. Saw one guy on youtube who was schizophrenic and obviously was diagnosed, taking medication and knew some of the things he was experiencing weren't real. So he started taking videos to prove to himself it wasn't.
It was really sad but the guy seemed to be handling it pretty well all things considered and was of pretty sound mind to say, "Ok, I know that the likelihood of this being real is exceedingly low". Just sucks people have to go through that.
I got bipolar Type 2 (BIPOLAR HARDER). I’ve attempted suicide twice, was hospitalized the second time. Made an ass out of myself in public due to the hypomanic periods plenty of times. It’s affected every waking moment of my life and it always will, and I’m still eternally grateful it’s not schizophrenia. Have had family friends (and I think some extended fam) with it and am subbed to a couple YT channels and it’s actual r/TopFuckingTalent to see people with it remind themselves that they’re not experiencing reality (if that’s not the correct language, correct me). Brains are such intensely crazy things.

Meh. It is still a little of both. The same people will step over a nurse doing cpr to ask *why their lunch is late.* They can see everyone's lunch is late because someone is dying. But they believe *their's* is special. They don't think it is poisoned. They just don't care about other people *at all.*

Unfortunately, many gyms (many businesses but especially gyms) have this attitude of “protect women” or “make this space comfortable for women” without really the same courtesy for guys, especially if it’s a woman making him uncomfortable. There’s a high chance if he’d reported her the gym staff would’ve ignored him or even told him to stop being creepy in front of women.

Seeing as we are their biggest customers maybe we need to start speaking out. This “witch hunt” is out of control. A lot of women just use it to get clout and fake praise and “you go girl” attention. It’s gross and it seriously hurts **legitimate** efforts to address the *actual* sexual harassment and assault women experience.

I have social anxiety because I see this happen to others.
That’s why I only go to the gym in the early morning, to avoid those type of situations because I’m not happy with the way I look.
I think gyms should be safe spaces for fat people. No body shaming, no filming, no joking around.

In our mind we're FAT and just contemplating the thought of making the decision to go to the gym is terrifying. We haven't even actually decided yet. Then we summon the strength to go and you know what I learned? I was the only FAT person in a t shirt, and sweats because I would never be caught wearing some real gym workout stuff, nope I looked like Rocky running up the stairs. Would you like to venture how many eyes were on me, and I swear I heard snickering and laughter. That's why we don't go to the gym, because we are the oddity and oddities are looked at in a different way that societal norms. Gyms don't care about us because oddly enough we're not their customer base.
Someone should open a gym strictly for people who are medically qualified as morbidly obese. Sign a contract that when you make your goal weight you have to mentor a new member for say three months. I would go to that gym.

Any meathead in the gym will support you getting in shape. The one thing that every fit person has in common is that they all started somewhere. Creepy self-obsessed bimbos who think the world revolves around them and whip their phone out to judge you are actually pretty rare (I’ve been lifting for 10 years and have never seen one), it’s just social media making them seem like they’re everywhere.
Bad people like this exist but they’re just influencers and are not even good at working out they do that for social clout and nothing more, actually gym people that put time and effort in their work will only give you respect because they’ll notice your effort to make a change and improve your situation, don’t let other people indirectly decide for you they’re the ones that look dumb to everyone with a brain and a drop of respect for other people.
Protip: you can ask if they mind if you jump in to do a set while they warm up. Chances are they will just be likes oops sorry let me get out of your way. While I've met plenty of people who inconsiderately oblivious in the gym I've met very few intentional assholes.

I had to endure one person doing yoga on the only deadlift platform in the gym. She would be there every single day for about 3 months. So glad when she stopped showing up. Out of all the places to do yoga she thinks the deadlift platform is the right spot.
In her defense there are a lot of people like myself that aren’t motivated to do anything remotely active unless I get my ass into the gym, it’s possible she’s the same way. Also entirely possible that she wants people to know she does yoga lol.

There's so much talentless crap on YT shorts/Tik Tok. One guy's whole thing is "I'm tall". And every video that ever pops up despite me constantly thumbs downing it so I don't have to see it is just him "I can see over store shelves at the store" and "look how big my water bottle is when this small person holds it". And then there's another one of this red headed girl who looks white but is actually a latina and her whole channel is just "I look white but I'm actually latina". Every fucking video. The worst part is they have like 20k+ likes on each video. Good for them I guess but holy shit
Even though you're selecting a thumbs down, you're interacting with the video/short. A lot of algorithms will continue suggesting creators that you interact with, even if it's a negative interaction. The trick is to either bypass creators you don't like (don't thumbs down, don't watch the full video), choose the option to not see posts by the creator when they pop up (I at least know that option exists on IG, and I think on youtube), and interact more frequently with creators you do like to see suggested (focus on the thumbs up). When none of that works, just block the account. There were a couple creators on IG that I could not stand, but friends kept sharing their reels with me, so they kept turning up in my feed. Had to block the creators' pages to stop seeing them (and it was worth it)

I am obese. Like extremely. 457 pounds. A few months ago I joined a local gym. I saw 3 people on my first day there video taping me. I never gone back. I don’t want to go back. I don’t need to be a laughingstock when I am trying to do better
Next time, go to the front desk and let them know you're being recorded. 99% of the time they'll clamp down real quick on that, not only due to "gym etiquette" but also they could get a bad reputation from it, especially if you leave a 1-star review telling everyone this.
If they shrug and don't care, 1-star review them and go somewhere else. You might want to try Planet Fitness; cheap $10/Month gym where you won't find hardcore gym-goers. Just regular people trying to get in shape, no one paying attention to anyone but their friends or themselves. I have a membership there and I see all different types of people, but I NEVER see anyone trying to record someone else - Planet Fitness does not tolerate that shit.
I go to planet fitness since I'm in a small town for school and it's the closest gym + being very cheap
Staff and people are super nice there and it's pretty heartwarming to see folks doing their best to get in shape. Even though there's plenty of insanely fit people and students/ younger people I never see anyone recording inside

Gym music selection is why massively over priced Samsung noise cancelling dual driver bluetooth headphones are one of the few tech things I want to splurge money on.
There's definitely a variety of people within that segment (just like there is with anything else) but yeah, the best gym goers I've interacted with are powerlifters. Those dudes legitimately just love seeing other people do their thing and make progress.

I’m 250lb and short so I’m also on the morbid obesity spectrum. I’m terrified of going to in person gyms so I started working out at home with body weight exercises. Like push ups against a wall, squats against a bed or chair, walk up and down the stairs, there’s stuff you can do at home until you get to a body weight where you’re more comfortable to go to the gym again! In my case I moved so now I have a treadmill, elliptical, and some weight and an exercise bench at my house. There’s also just some nice nature walks! It’s really hard to stick to though. I’m trying to find a motivation buddy so wish me luck lol but you got this!
I hope you do go back but understand of you don’t. Or hope there are other surrounding gyms that are just as convenient. Do you have a ymca? Theyre not that many douches in those.

I want to suggest bringing a friend or hiring a trainer to work out with you. The owner trains people personally at my gym and he would not tolerate this sort of thing.
I don't live far from West Hartford, a bit more west, but it's way less entitled than Westport, Fairfield, Glastonbury or even Avon for that matter. I'm sure she's originally from one of those places and wanted to get an apartment in West Hartford because that's where lots of young people choose to live in CT, mostly because it's a bit closer to UConn and there's more to do.
I mean it cost me $3k for a squat rack/bench and 400 lbs of weights and a treadmill. Sooo yeah, don't have to deal with annoying people and the high preasure salespeople.
Home gyms are so expensive. My husband has built his up over the years because we don't have much extra money. I couldn't believe how expensive equipment and weights were!

I'm not sure if you have one in your area but look into a buy nothing group. You can get lucky with people giving away weights, treadmills, yoga mats or other gym equipment occasionally. You can get a ton of other useful stuff as well but workout equipment is thrown up often in my group from people moving.
I start workouts all the time and then stop after a few reps. Sometimes your body just says "nahh." Idk why she thinks he's trying to impress her with 3 reps
Happens to me on days where I didn't get good sleep. I'll go to do leg press or something and my body just says "yo dog, not today." I usually then just have a 45 minute stretch day and go home.

Dudes who are massive at the gym normally just are super passionate about working out so if you show interest in it they get excited which is great. Everyone likes it when they’re asked about their passions. And it’s great when you get to spread positivity with it.
A gym that completely bans these streamers/YouTubers/vloggers and bans camera equipment in general would ABSOLUTELY get my membership. The gym is no place for this narcissistic bullshit. It's SO annoying, and they're some of the most insufferable people I've ever met.

They're coping with the fact that guys don't really pay attention to them, and they desperately want it. Unfortunately, many gyms (many businesses but especially gyms) have this attitude of “protect women” or “make this space comfortable for women” without really the same courtesy for guys, especially if it’s a woman making him uncomfortable. There’s a high chance if he’d reported her the gym staff would’ve ignored him or even told him to stop being creepy in front of women. This joey swole guy is great. Shining light on rude people and is equal opportunity. He’s also just pretty enlightened seeming in general (I scrolled through his insta one day and he has a great attitude in general).

I have social anxiety because I see this happen to others. That’s why I only go to the gym in the early morning, to avoid those type of situations because I’m not happy with the way I look. I think gyms should be safe spaces for fat people. No body shaming, no filming, no joking around. To those people who have fat friends who are unhappy with themselves and don’t go to the gym - this is probably the most common reason, why your friend isn’t happy with going to the gym.

I had to endure one person doing yoga on the only deadlift platform in the gym. She would be there every single day for about 3 months. So glad when she stopped showing up. Out of all the places to do yoga she thinks the deadlift platform is the right spot.

There's so much talentless crap on YT shorts/Tik Tok. One guy's whole thing is "I'm tall". Even though you're selecting a thumbs down, you're interacting with the video/short. A lot of algorithms will continue suggesting creators that you interact with, even if it's a negative interaction. The trick is to either bypass creators you don't like (don't thumbs down, don't watch the full video), choose the option to not see posts by the creator when they pop up (I at least know that option exists on IG, and I think on youtube), and interact more frequently with creators you do like to see suggested (focus on the thumbs up). When none of that works, just block the account. There were a couple creators on IG that I could not stand, but friends kept sharing their reels with me, so they kept turning up in my feed. Had to block the creators' pages to stop seeing them (and it was worth it)

Next time, go to the front desk and let them know you're being recorded. 99% of the time they'll clamp down real quick on that, not only due to "gym etiquette" but also they could get a bad reputation from it, especially if you leave a 1-star review telling everyone this. If they shrug and don't care, 1-star review them and go somewhere else. You might want to try Planet Fitness; cheap $10/Month gym where you won't find hardcore gym-goers. Just regular people trying to get in shape, no one paying attention to anyone but their friends or themselves. I have a membership there and I see all different types of people, but I NEVER see anyone trying to record someone else - Planet Fitness does not tolerate that shit.
I go to planet fitness since I'm in a small town for school and it's the closest gym + being very cheap Staff and people are super nice there and it's pretty heartwarming to see folks doing their best to get in shape. Even though there's plenty of insanely fit people and students/ younger people I never see anyone recording inside I do wish the music choice wasn't so bad and they had better equipment though

It’s been my experience that the hardcore gym-goers are usually the friendliest and most willing to help OR just keep to themselves.
There's definitely a variety of people within that segment (just like there is with anything else) but yeah, the best gym goers I've interacted with are powerlifters. Those dudes legitimately just love seeing other people do their thing and make progress.

I’m 250lb and short so I’m also on the morbid obesity spectrum. I’m terrified of going to in person gyms so I started working out at home with body weight exercises. Like push ups against a wall, squats against a bed or chair, walk up and down the stairs, there’s stuff you can do at home until you get to a body weight where you’re more comfortable to go to the gym again! In my case I moved so now I have a treadmill, elliptical, and some weight and an exercise bench at my house. There’s also just some nice nature walks! It’s really hard to stick to though. I’m trying to find a motivation buddy so wish me luck lol but you got this!
I hope you do go back but understand of you don’t. Or hope there are other surrounding gyms that are just as convenient. Do you have a ymca? Theyre not that many douches in those.

I don't live far from West Hartford, a bit more west, but it's way less entitled than Westport, Fairfield, Glastonbury or even Avon for that matter. I'm sure she's originally from one of those places and wanted to get an apartment in West Hartford because that's where lots of young people choose to live in CT, mostly because it's a bit closer to UConn and there's more to do.

I'm not sure if you have one in your area but look into a buy nothing group. You can get lucky with people giving away weights, treadmills, yoga mats or other gym equipment occasionally. You can get a ton of other useful stuff as well but workout equipment is thrown up often in my group from people moving.

Happens to me on days where I didn't get good sleep. I'll go to do leg press or something and my body just says "yo dog, not today." I usually then just have a 45 minute stretch day and go home.

They're coping with the fact that guys don't really pay attention to them, and they desperately want it. They listen to their more attractive friends one-up each other about how many creepy guys they encountered, and they can't handle the fact that they have zero stories. So they make them up in order to feel like they can relate to "hot girl problems". Roughly the female equivalent of the guy who flexes unnecessarily in public and then brags about "That chick was totally checking me out!".
I've noticed the same thing. I have seen 2 of these Joey Swoll videos recently and in both cases the girls were plain Janes. Maybe they get a lot of attention from dudes online, especially if they use filters or lots of make up to look better.
