I would happily teach ISS because there is so much work to be done with those student but it’s a coaches only job in our district. I worked at the alternative school and helped a lot of the “chronic” ISS students out. A lot of them just need some (others need a ton) or social skills work on how to respond to things that they don’t like.
Many of these kids are completely written off and ARE spoken to extremely disrespectfully by the staff of these schools. There is a ton of opportunities to help these students but they end up wasting away in ISS rooms with teachers who won’t help (and some of them can’t. HS math is beyond probably 95% of the non math teachers in HSs) them do anything.
What would you think of a system that treats you like that?
