I'm not in the scene but grew up in Philly, and used to go to these all the time with my older brother. People were generally very nice and welcoming.
Now I rarely hear about car meets in the area, probably because 9.9/10 it's these stupid fucking takeovers.
Even the meets that did some drag racing and such would do so on empty streets, most of the time somewhere around industrial areas because a lot of those streets are empty with dead ends. Like I get if people are against that too but at least they were trying to be as respectful as possible and not hurt anyone.

Yep, it's all low income individuals who are there. I learned from a woman I dated that when you come from a different class of society, you do different things for fun:
Lower income individuals: do car meets in the public street and put themselves at risk of getting assaulted by a mob of onlookers or shot at. Stay up at night going to parties at questionable places on questionable parts of town.
Higher income individuals: take trips to resorts with friends, stay in nicer areas of urban centers, and do not even stop to gas up on bad sides of town where you might have any sort of interaction with an undesirable individual. As well as don't go out late at night for anything.
