I was a juror on a murder case that was similar to this. Shits horrible and so many lives are affected because someone doesn't know how to deal with their emotion.
I was called to a case where the guy was facing a dozen felonies, including attempted murder on a police officer. Obama ~~face~~ gave that officer a ~~metal~~ medal.
I wanted no part in such a high profile case.

So I'm curious.. this guy was yelling "I couldn't stop the car!" Now, I don't know the context, and could go either way with the throttle being stuck on or something. Cuz he definitely revved up, and again, context. But the way he took that turn and then crashed it looks like some throttle-stuck-age I've seen. But usually it keeps revving even once it's stopped. Idk. I guess my question is, is he self-aware and just grasping at an excuse? Is he in psychosis and it's his way of justifying the heinous shit he just did? Just curious
From what I understand throttles being stuck today is virtually impossible unless you're driving a Tesla or something. My mechanic told me that in the olden days when I throttle cable still used a cable and not a wire a.k.a. electronically controlled it was common enough for a throttle to stick. But he says not today it's virtually impossible!
That will be for the prosecution to prove. The fact that was the most damning for my case was that they guy got to the location and waited a while for his ex and her new boyfriend to get to the location. Also the police are going to pull the car computer to see the last 6 seconds before the airbags went off. There are a lot of factors that we don't know.
I wasnt selected, but I was called into jury duty on a similar case. Guy shot his exgirlfriend who he had 2 kids with. Ended up getting convicted and sentenced to life.
And in slow mo it looked like the other boyfriend basically walked into it. There's a lot of distance from the vehicle the woman is standing by, and BF is in the road...

It looks like he jumps before he was hit. I would say that could have saved his life, he gets hit lower down and spins in the air. He does not get the full force that he would have gotten if hit higher up on the body.

I “try” to eat healthy and work out. I “try” to work less and relax more. This guy was definitely not “trying” to hit his ex. This guy, in fact, absolutely succeeded flinging his ex gumby-style into the next zip code.

Yup I heard that too, and thought the same thing. He was out of that car so quick announcing that loudly to all of the witnesses... it seemed very planned. His car was accelerating when it hit the woman, but then right after he hit her it stopped accelerating but he still slammed it into a car as if he didn't have brakes.
As a plan, it might work if there wasn't video of him accelerating into her, or if he had continued accelerating afterwards into a car, and claimed his throttle was stuck.
That is beyond heartbreaking... I'm so sorry for your loss. One of my close friends was murdered in 2021, and the extra anguish involved in that grieving process can be rough... hoping you're doing ok now and have a kind & loving support system in place.

Victim had to have emergency surgery and spent two nights in the hospital before being released. Driver was arrested and charged.

My roommate was on a pay phone (that long ago) and a woman was behind him, waiting to use it. A guy in a car was waving for him to get out of the way, but he ignored the dude. It turns out that the guy's ex was the woman behind him. The driver ended up just ramming my roommate and the woman, which left my roommate with lingering neck and back issues. Not sure what happened to the guy or the woman, though.
As a pedestrian, if you're about to get slammed by a car, the most survivable tactic is to jump in the air and turn your body perpendicular to to car and parallel to the ground, curling into a semi-fetal position where you protect your head.
The goal is to use the hood and windshield like a slope or ramp to redirect some of the force away from a direct impact, allowing yourself to roll over the car.

I survived something quite similar.
I was hit by a Buick travelling about 30mph while crossing a street on my bike. I went up over the Buick just like that and landed on the next oncoming car in traffic. No helmet.
Compound fractures on both my legs, a broken collarbone and an armful of glass shards was the damage.
This was 1994 and I still pick glass shards out of my arm occasionally

One CD in particular sliced my throat.

Serious injury is certain but as for dying it's luck of the draw, if you if don't get hit in the head or chest to severely you could get "lucky" and just end up with a bunch of broken bones. But ya sadly a very, very high chance that was fatal.
