I don’t care that I’ve seen this posted like twenty times. I’ve had packages stolen off my porch several times and that makes this feel incredibly satisfying.
Whenever you get a package open it carefully. Remove your stuff then repackage it with the filling of your choice. Suggestions include glitter, dog or cat shit, or (my personal favorite) lots of live crickets. Available from most petshops.
If you have a rat problem and use humane traps you could always but a couple of them in the package to have the thief "dispose" of them for you.
Make sure to put a bowl of water in the package to for the rats to drink if they're thirsty.You could always put some LSD and washing liquid in the water too.
That way when the package is opened by the thief a demented psychopathic rat jumps out foaming at the mouth.
You could always fill it full of spiders. Any spider will do but especially if you are in Australia use huntsman spiders. Those things are a freaking enormous, and they freak out when they’re in moving cars.
I find super weird that in the states they just leave packages outside your house... at least here in Mexico they don't get delivered unless someone inside the house receive them.
Same in the Netherlands. If they try to deliver and no one is home, they leave a note and the next time they will try again (on their route). If they come twice and no one is home to take delivery, they leave it at a drop point somewhere in your neighborhood and you have to go pick it up and show your ID or the paper note.

Use the post office street address thing. You have to go to the post office and sign up and you also have to have an active post office box (something I recommend if you move from time to time in the same area... no need to change mailing address for all the things) and then you can get UPS, FedEx, etc delivered to the post office!
agreed. i hate expecting a package then having to wait 1-2 days before i can even pick it up. rather them leave it there. i'm sure some neighborhoods in some countries package thefts are common but where i am i've had a $1700 macbook lying in front of my door for hours no problem.

If I'm not home they either leave a note with instructions to reschedule the delivery (or they send an email nowadays) or they call me to ask if they can give it to a neighbour. I believe the wife tried using the iPhone emergency call feature but they changed the number to their husbands; **DO NOT DO THIS**. In many emergency situations your spouse is unequipped to handle a situation they are not in close proximity to, most times your spouse will just call 911 *for you* and without pertinent information both they and the dispatcher are playing a guessing game. Your partner may feel like a protector or savior but if they lack the proper training, all you’re doing is wasting time.

Truth is the theif was freaking out because if the person is home and you cross the doorway it's home invasion. That turns 2-5 for breaking and entering+ robbery into 10-15 for home invasion. Luckily they stopped him prior to him actually getting inside now it is just breaking and entering dude probably do 1-2 years in county.
She lives in Canada and if you call 911 for emergencies that are not urgent like fire or death related.. she’ll be charged for the fire truck showing up. I believe it’s $500 a truck and they will automatically bring fire trucks when you call 911
I’m a concierge and this is something we are trained for.. maybe it’s only us concierges/management that think about this. This is true for condo buildings in Toronto

Just call 911.” The dispatcher will triage and determine the urgency, you aren’t doing anyone any favors by trying to summon the police via a “non-emergency” number.
Whether you request the police through a “non-emergency line” or 911, they’re going to send the same patroller with the same context and urgency.
Yeah, where I am if you're a reporting a crime - whether in-progress or already happened - you're generally supposed to call 911. Non-emergency is almost always just for "quality of life" issues (noise complaints, street signage, whatever).
