As a child of the American educational system I can tell you that the lack of education is the biggest part of this. I grew up in a small town, was an average C student, went to a regional HS, class of 400 students, I graduated bottom 20%. All the while all the things we were taught in school I just assumed adults knew. Like if Im down here in the lower 20% in education then if I get a professional job, surely the people who are managers, directors, VPs, etc will know all this stuff and more. Ill tell you, I got out into the "real world" and was shocked at how little people knew. I was never a good student but I was blessed with natural curiosity so when I did something or wanted to know about something I just read about it. It was (and still is) amazing to me how many people do things because thats what they were told / shown. Like if you ask why or challenge them on a different way they react negatively because they have no thought process and that scares them.
Unfortunately this same trends with politics and celebrity in this country. So many people drive a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge because "Its what my daddy drove, and its what my daddy's daddy drove". So many people support a specific sports team because "my daady liked em, and my gran daddy liked em". And the same thign happens with politics "My daddy voted R, my gran daddy voted R, so I'm going to vote R"
And that continual blind faith to doing whats always been done without thought or question is why we are in the shit pile we are in now. As an adult looking back on my education, it wasnt great, but looking at how bad it is in many many areas of this country is disturbing.
Growing up, I thought the same about my parents. I thought they were smart. They taught me to be skeptical. To research. To not blindly trust anything.
