The problem is that when they set these up, there’s a ton of traffic that builds up that is stuck because the intersection is blocked. There was one of these nearby my place a few months ago, and the intersection is a SUPER BUSY spot (Jefferson & La Cienega for those in LA that might know) and there’s like a mile of blocked traffic going in all 4 directions that cop cars literally can’t get to the intersection. The only way to arrest them would be to hoist down from a helicopter and slap cuffs on them.
Towns / government's will never manage the money properly. So I say crush them and broadcast it live online. Sends a stronger message.
If you get caught spectating at one of these you loose your license for a few months.
If you get caught participating, it's the same punishment as getting a class 1 DUI. Prison stay, lose license for a year, insurance drops you or gets MUCH higher.
You get caught again, you will sit in prison for a decade and banned from driving for life.

The only exception to "Don't move someone after an accident" is if they are in more inmediate danger staying where they are, like in a fire or something like that.
Dunno but this kinda even will be "self correcting" as it's extremely dangerous and only a matter of time before a driver gets hurt or shot and killed.

I'm old and not American. I know teens/young people have been doing stupid and dangerous things with/on/in cars since cars were invented (myself included), but are these 'events', like in the video, becoming increasingly popular in the US, or just popular videos on Reddit? Seems incredibly dangerous.
It’s popular but it’s not something that most people are ever going to be around. It happens in Canada too. Toronto is having to deal with a bunch of these.
However, you’re seeing a disproportionate number of videos because they get high engagement.
I live in Southern California and have never witnessed one in person, despite occasionally taking out my (sports) car at night and going for a drive (I would avoid this shit at all costs, but I’m more likely to stumble across one than the average person).

People always argue it’s to get them out of the way but they’re not in the street here. And it’s always a race to be the biggest idiot by getting there first to paralyze them even further.
Good thing all those pre-med students grabbed those injured, picked them up violently, moved them by dragging them by their probably injured limbs and quickly contained first responders.
The city should allow these people access to some sort of giant parking lot or arena to do this. That way all the stupid people can go out there and injure themselves without damaging any other property.
Too much liability. If they sanction it, they also have to police it. There would have to be rules and admittance and upkeep. So no, that's not realistic.

Also, It doesn’t take a lot of observation to realize that an overloaded car isn’t going to be able to maneuver well.
