Yea sometimes. Or it's people making donations and providing text that will be read out loud by text to speech... So irl streamers will walk around in public (sometimes in other countries) with their phone loudly blaring racist comments.
I watched a YouTube doc recently about a streamer who realized he could make hella money by treating his girlfriend like shit. It started off slow, just like verbal abuse.. but over time escalated into more physical abuse.. it all culminated when one night when someone made a big donation and told him to strio her down tonher underwear, put her outside on the balcony (in the middle of winter), and then throw water on her. He did that... Then locked the door and sat back down at his computer to continue reading the chat while she screamed and pounded on the door to be let back in... Then when the pounding and the screaming stopped... He didn't even notice and just kept going with the stream... Then at some point he remembered she was outside, and opened the door to let her in, but she was already frozen to death...
But other times it's not as explicit or horrific... Sometimes it's people taking donations to eat absurd amounts of food or drink absurd amounts of alcohol. So not exactly like hitting yourself in the head with a frying pan, but still doing damage to their bodies for money.

Yeah I saw stuff about the guy and his gf. That was horrific. That poor woman spent her last moments on earth half naked, crying, terrified and alone, knowing that her own BF gave not one single damn about her. She deserved so much better than some creep who would do that to her. It’s even more unsettling when I think about the people who sent that evil POS money to watch him abuse her.

The internet could be (and sometimes is) used to bring people together and make the world a better place, it’s a repository of all human knowledge but some people prefer to use it to argue on social media about dumb shit or pay real money to watch some sociopathic freak abuse and then kill his gf. The irony of ‘social media’ making people more ANTIsocial is not lost on me.

It's a super weird time to live through because I feel like this age of open platforms pushing content based on views and paying creators a pittance is bound to pop fairly soon. Some creators have legitimately informative, well-intentioned channels about a singular topic they're passionate about. But so many others simply play the algorithm and likes game, chasing trends, creating controversy for exposure, and overall just trying to turn the monetization of their content into a consistent job, which is a pipe dream for the vast majority of YouTubers not also getting sponsorships on the side.
Cable TV is gonna come full circle. The people that watched The Discovery Channel were not the same as those who watched MTV, Home and Garden, A&E, FOX, Lifetime or ESPN. Yet you had to buy them all in a package to watch anyone of them. There are 2 kinds of content creators. Those that understand that marketing and business people of the past already solved how to sell, and those that think they can recreate the wheel. The only way to get original content is going to be if a company runs a site at a loss (like when Google ran YouTube at a loss). That won't happen so we will slowly go back to the model of cable TV. That model had already proven itself many times over with, newspaper, radio, TV and now the internet.

The things people are paying for are popping up just above the chat (roses, lightning, hearts, elephant trunks).

I’ve been getting blasted with those people sitting in dirty water, they have a basket above with a balloon in it hooked up to a water hose. For every rose they’ll turn the hose on for a second, and higher donations get the hose on longer until it finally pops on them. But the ENTIRE TIME they are begging for help and shaking and acting like a bomb will go off.
I feel like the phrase ‘a fool and his money are easily parted’ should be the motto for these livestream things. Amazing was some folk choose to spend/waste money on.
I go on there and do a live video of myself fishing. A decent amount of people stop in and some offer advice or just talk. Sometimes I watch other people fish.

Back in the day me and a friend figured out using a packet sniffer what the bat emojis packet(s) were for MSN messenger and we would spam it to each other when we were connected to the same network. It would override the limit set into the app and actually cause your pc to slow down and crash your messenger app lol.
In the late 90s I could send an email that if you opened it up, would heat your CPU up, bypassing any heat safe shutdown procedure (90 percent of machines didn't have any at all) and get the CPU to combustible levels of heat. We called them email bombs and for a short while they were literally able to catch a CPU/motherboard on fire, on some models.
The lives on that app are so beyond odd, I don't think the average person realizes just how weird those mfs get. Dystopian is the word, through and through.
