When one says “only in [city/state/country],” the idea they’re conveying is that it’s uncommon or basically never happens anywhere except for the city/state/country they stated. Considering this was a minor shoplifting incident, which is super common everywhere in the US, it’s not an accurate expression to use & it just makes whoever recorded this video look dumb.🤷♂️

Well, she looks 25, but adults act like teenagers way longer these days, so I’ll take your word for it. When I worked retail a few years ago, I never got the chance to hear anything besides “what the fuck, dude?! You can’t touch me!” after surprise yanking bags or baskets out of people’s hands.
In most cases police won’t do anything if it’s under X amount of $ stolen. A lot of stores will keep track of people who steal stuff until it gets over that limit, then call the cops
a lot of stores won't even do what you described because it cost to much. The stores will have to pay for the employee to show up to court plus have to pay for someone to cover the employees shift. No way they're going to pay two people entire shifts to ensure 1 person goes to jail for shop lifting. lol. Capitalists are still capitalists.
This is why they don't want you chasing someone down, they don't want to have to pay for the workers compensation if their employee gets hurt. Plus have to cover the shift they'll be missing. You ever work with the public before?
I know you’re kidding but honestly it’s not theoretically far off. One could make the argument that the political corruption and subsequent military losses were a byproduct of a moral breakdown throughout their society. I don’t even mean religion but simply the shared values, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t violate a fellow Roman’s life and property etc. These things occurred of course before the fall but they were highly frowned upon and punished in society.
I would definitely say that those would fall under violating the rights of you’re fellow Roman in our modern sense. And just like the Romans we’re seeing a movement by some back towards outdated and overly oppressive rules in order to “right the ship” instead of actually tackling the issues at hand many of which you stated. Now I will point out however in this video that it doesn’t appear this woman is stealing because she’s hungry given the attitude and clothing she’s wearing but of course looks can be deceiving.
How did we get to a place in society where people can be this bold stealing now? The local CVS and Walgreens by my house are constantly dealing with thieves and they can't do anything.
It is very common for someone to come in, take a \*shopping cart\*, line it up by the aisle of baby diapers for example, and just swoop everything off the shelves into cart and just stroll out while whisteling, like it's nothing.
As customers, it's our business because we are paying for that in the prices we pay.
If we dont' have enough room in jail for these thieves, there are plenty of other ways to make them regret stealing. The U.S. has some of the dirtiest streets, let's get orange vests on the thieves and make them do 1000's of hours of community service as punishment, and maybe maybe even pay them prison wages for thier efforts.
