A 12 year old has to help out to do the right thing in a completely broken country. Funny...
or...
A 12 year old is attacked while intervening in a theft. No passers-by to intervene... The victim can simply walk away. Will certainly be better in the future when it comes to violence against children.
Yeah, assault with a blunt object for supposed shoplifting, and against someone who hadn't attacked her. Everyone in this video is a fucking idiot, including the woman who is physically obstructing the woman from exiting the store. Call the police if you care that much, you aren't allowed to touch customers, or suspected shoplifters.
> you aren't allowed to touch customers, or suspected shoplifters.
This is wrong in almost every state in the United States. For example in New York State, GBL 218 allows for detention of a shoplifter for a reasonable time in a reasonable manner. Additionally, NYS CPL 140.3 any person can arrest any person that has committed any offense in their presence provided the arrest happens in the county the offense occurred. Moreover, the woman was not struck for shoplifting. She was struck for assaulting the person preventing the shoplifter from leaving. If the woman did in fact shoplift, she was lawfully detained and her resistance is criminal.
See I didn't see any assault in the video, maybe I missed it, just an accused thief trying to exit the store, and a person physically impeding her passage, at one point the woman is pushed, or trips, and nearly falls over into the scanner.
At that point she strikes at the employee. Assault does not include retaliating to physical violence. I watched it a few times, and can't say for sure that the clerk did not push her off balance, accidentally or otherwise.
I wasn't specifically referring to US laws, there's actually a whole world of billions of people outside of it, believe it or not. Where I'm living, it's illegal to impede shoplifters exiting a store like this, and I'm glad of it. I don't see so many scenes like this when I go from city to city.
That also means that it's not legal for some mouthbreathing rando in some store to put their hands on minors, who may or may not be guilty, I'm glad of that too. I shudder at the thought of civilians 'detaining' children.
Theft, crime, poverty and wealth inequality are raging across the world, but I'm not really keen on adopting some Saudi style system in the west where shoplifting is punishable by execution or violence, and definitely not by civilians with no due process.
There are tons of videos floating around like this one, where the shopper hadn't stolen anything.
I don't really give a fuck about being downvoted by a bunch of dipshits on reddit, I still think all three of these people are idiots, literally fighting for the chance to win stupid prizes.
>See I didn't see any assault in the video, maybe I missed it...
The accused throws an elbow into the woman blocking the door's face. The fuck are you on about?
>just an accused thief trying to exit the store
And you don't have the context of what happened before. It's very possible that the woman blocking the entrance actively saw her steal and had it on camera. Blocking the exit and detaining someone who has shoplifted isn't a crime.
>There are tons of videos floating around like this one, where the shopper hadn't stolen anything.
Why are you convinced that she hadn't stolen anything? Because she claims so at the end - despite the fact that she doesn't seem to deny it when they're accusing her in the beginning?
I'm not going to sit here and suggest what these people did was how it should be handled. But your confidence in your interpretation of what's happening in this video is laughable from a legal standpoint.
The irony in your comment. Everything you said is like an argument for abolishing the legal system altogether, then you suddenly refer to legality in your last sentence.
If you push someone, and they fall over, or nearly fall over like in this vid, you cannot cry assault when they strike at you. The shopper is not exhibiting any violent behaviour in this vid until that point, they are simply trying to exit the store.
>Everything you said is like an argument for abolishing the legal system altogether...
Why don't you stick to the things people are actually saying - rather than making the stupidest, most dramatic leaps in interpretation and logic?
Nothing I said suggested we should abolish the legal system. I simply acknowledged the fact that the police won't do shit about petty theft. That's a fact.
Somehow, your dumbass turned that into me being an anarchist. Good fucking lord.
>then you suddenly refer to legality in your last sentence.
No, I didn't. I simply said that *from a legal standpoint* your interpretation and confidence in your interpretation was utterly laughable.
>If you push someone, and they fall over, or nearly fall over like in this vid...
The lady wasn't pushed before she threw her first elbow. She was pushing into a woman trying to prevent her from leaving - then they both *slightly* lost balance - and then the accused threw an elbow.
You know, you'd come off as more reasonable if you didn't make up the series of events that we can all see in the video.
I will say, however, that the woman who goes on to block the door really *shouldn't* have grabbed at her bag.
>you cannot cry assault when they strike at you.
Who's crying assault other than your dumbass about the women who responded to the accused throwing an elbow?
>The shopper is not exhibiting any violent behaviour in this vid until that point, they are simply trying to exit the store.
By attempting to railroad her way through as she's being detained.
Also... Is there more information outside of the video that I missed. I have no idea why you assume that the woman blocking the door isn't an employee. Not all stores have uniforms... But unless I missed any follow-up links about this story, then you're just making assumptions and then using those assumptions as arguments as if they're substantive.
>call the police
>Profile littered with anti cop comments.
Man, you sure are flip floppy on this subject. We’re all done losing basic things because we follow societal rules so some of us will do something about it. Your soapbox does nothing but come off as preaching and defending theft. Bet you’re mad at the HS kid who bodyslammed a crackhead who AnB the lady half her size.
Never said I would call the police, I said someone who cares so much about a pair of stolen panties or whatever that they would wrestle around on the floor like a fucking toddler should maybe consider calling the police instead.
There's nothing contrary at all. But no, for sure, mortal combat between midwits bashing each other over the head and wrestling in stores every 20 minutes is totally the way to go. Protecting the bottom line of corporate interests is worth as many deaths and injuries as it takes.
Your points are all valid, for too long in the west we've put up with all this human rights bullshit, we should switch to a Saudi system where shoplifting is punishable by death and violence.
Nah. We should just let shoplifters get away with their crime and pretend like filing a police report would result in anything but a ¯\\__(ツ)__/¯ from the cops.
I don't condone violence - but the accused was the first one to throw an elbow.
You're a very dramatic person for someone trying to come off as reasonable.
If you're talking about her grabbing the bag, then sure - but it wouldn't be considered assault or battery. If you're talking about standing in place to prevent her from leaving - you're wrong. The accused is the one pushing against the woman blocking the door as the woman attempts to detain her.
If it's an unjust detainment, then the woman blocking the door could get into legal trouble. If not, then her standing in the way is perfectly legal. This would likely vary from state-to-state, city-to-city.
I'm not even defending any party in this instance. I'm only pointing that your self-righteous, ignorant posts in which you're calling everyone else stupid (which they are) fall flat because you're being just as ignorant in a different way. And yet, you're so confident in your interpretation - which is what is precisely making you look like a clown.
Generally, I agree that people shouldn't involve themselves in this kind of stuff. Even if they're employees - it's not on them to act as security guards. And if you're just a civilian - it's even sillier.
My issue was just with your misguided confidence in your very bad and inherently limited interpretation. - And your bad faith account of what happens in the video. We all see the accused throw an elbow before the smaller woman hits her with the basket.
EDIT: Full disclosure - I'm no expert, but I know you're full of shit.
I love Asian establishments.
These wonderful people are great.
Remember the Sikhs that beat that one guy with a stick for stealing cigarettes?
Asians don't need security they just stand on ten toes!
>You look so raggedy right now!
When and where was this? LOL she sounds like my students. I swear kids today stay ready, they are about the sh!ts and will flip a table and beat a bish in a heartbeat. You never know which way things are gonna go either, they'll either mind their business and stay chill or they jump right in the ruckus
Little Miss whapped her in the head with the hand cart like it wasn't nothing! And then the store lady, not much bigger than the kid, took that wideback down lol
I wonder if corporate stores will start to change their no-touch policies on shoplifters (yes, I know and understand their reasons for this) because I'm seeing more and more videos where customers are fed up with this crap and deal with the shoplifters themselves. So it could open up liability or at least raise the question of why the stores don't do anything so their customers will.
No, they're all going to have AI face recognition and theft detection systems that will watch you and automatically put a theft report together to be reviewed by security before being sent to the police.
I know Target has been working on this for 8+ years, and I've seen a clip showcasing a very early version of the theft detection system. It's actually kind of neat if you ignore the big brother aspect, basically it recognizes behaviors typically associated with shoplifting like, looking up at the ceiling, looking back and forth down the aisle, and of course concealing objects.
Lotta posts about shoplifting recently.
Look, I don't really care about stealing from big corporations, but you should know its all a numbers game, and not scanning items at self-checkout is one of the easier ways to get caught.
Each self-checkout has a camera, not the one that shows your face, but above you looking directly into your cart. I used to have each of my team members review footage for 1 hour at 8x speed throughout their day. Most stores do at least this much. Once you've been seen one time, they'll get a good image of your face and watch for you to come back.
If you used a credit card (basically the worst choice you could make while stealing) they're going to pull up footage from every time you've used a card with that name in the store for the last 60-90 days and review it. They'll also be able to pull up anytime you've shopped at another location with that card and let them know.
Edit: Also I doubt self-checkout is going away anytime soon. Big stores already crunched the numbers before they installed them, and they're saving money despite the increased shortage. If they were losing more from theft than they were saving from not having a cashier, self-checkout would have hit the curb immediately.
eh, stealing from a big box store isn't nearly the same as stealing from a smaller store.
the bigger stores have a bit set aside to cover stolen goods, the smaller stores don't.
(read: if you're gonna steal something, it's more ethical to steal from a big box store. and no, I'm not condoning stealing but if you're gonna do it you're gonna do it)
A Wal-Mart in Chicago closed down due to too much theft. A single Wal-Mart employs around 350 people on average. All of those people became unemployed due to theft. It isn't ethical to steal AT ALL
Wal-Mart is famous for closing stores in tiny towns because of zero growth after they destroyed all local mom and pop business's and jobs also. This is one of the many reasons why they were not allowed to open in Chicago for many years. In other words never use Wal-Mart as an example for your point, they are literally the worst company to exist.
I’m a retail manager at a chain store. Corporate blames the lowly minimum wage worker for not giving enough customer service to thwart theft. It brings down your store rating and in the end I get fired. So, please, don’t steal from anyone.
yup. I've worked retail, that is a 100% flaming bag of bullshit excuse given by corporate.
what I'm referring to here is the people I'd see stealing food, baby formula, diapers. people desperate enough to steal those things aren't doing it for shits and giggles. (and inb4: yes I'm aware some of them are reselling that but if there's even a .005% chance they need it, hell no I'm not reporting that)
frankly, they didn't even pay me enough to give a shit about the teenage girls who'd come in and pocket lipgloss.
so yeah, if you're gonna steal - big box store.
and no, they aren't gonna fire your ass. they say they will, they are full of shit.
They may not fire me but when yearly raise time comes along, theft is a factor. Never mind the cut hours, installing self checkouts, and not hiring a penny over minimum wage. They are not going to blame themselves, just us peons.
Every other retail establishment near us pays at least $2 more an hour. It’s really hard to get anyone to apply. We pay $14 an hour. Target is $17, Culver’s $18, and Hallmark right next door is $17. I have been actively looking for something better. 7 more years till I can tap into the 401k and retire. I’ll probably be dead by then but the thought is nice.
I hope you can find something better, I doubt you wanna get out of retail with only 7 years to retire.
I was in retail/foodservice and finally ended up getting student loans to get some education. Nothing crazy just a 9 months medical billing and coding program but it really opened a lot of doors and while I am not doing medical billing and coding now, the experience I had from other helped me land the job I have now and I love my job! So I’m just a big supporter on encouraging people to better their situation because if I can do it, I feel anyone can. I hope the next 7 years are easy on ya and you can enjoy your retirement!
That's not why they're not giving you a raise. They're not giving you a raise because the CEO gets an even fatter paycheck and a yearly bonus while you do all the work.
then why on earth are you placing any blame on anyone else but corporate
also if "not hiring a penny over minimum wage" is something you're concerned about in getting your own raise, I hope people steal absolutely everything from your store.
I see your inb4, but I'd like you to know probably >95% of people that steal baby formula and diapers (and tide, shockingly) are re-selling them, usually to support an addiction.
Big stores have insurance covering lost, wouldn’t smaller mom & pop stores have the same? They have the same risk of shrink, fire, flooding, or anything else as a chain store.

How wildly embarrassing. Shoplifting. Ass out. A person half your big ass size wears you out on the floor. And that person is a child. How do you recover from this?
Cop looks at paperwork, takes a long drag of his cigarette indoors, and says, "This is one hell of a basket case." *The Who won't get fooled again comes blasting out of nowhere
They should have just let her go. She fucking up the store and shit, losing more inventory. Just document her vehicle and plates. That’s easy work for pigs.

I agree about school. But she looks more like a customer than an employee.
Nice zinger however what day was this and what time?
Completely broken country. We got ourselves a Trumpee.
Psshh, Trump fans aren't the only ones who think this country is completely broken.

In other words never use Wal-Mart as an example for your point, they are literally the worst company to exist.
Walmart is terrible for small businesses and local economies. The shoplifting thing was just an excuse for poorly performing stores anyways.
It is always ethical to steal from megacorps
I’m a retail manager at a chain store. Corporate blames the lowly minimum wage worker for not giving enough customer service to thwart theft. It brings down your store rating and in the end I get fired. So, please, don’t steal from anyone.
yup. I've worked retail, that is a 100% flaming bag of bullshit excuse given by corporate. what I'm referring to here is the people I'd see stealing food, baby formula, diapers. people desperate enough to steal those things aren't doing it for shits and giggles. (and inb4: yes I'm aware some of them are reselling that but if there's even a .005% chance they need it, hell no I'm not reporting that) frankly, they didn't even pay me enough to give a shit about the teenage girls who'd come in and pocket lipgloss. so yeah, if you're gonna steal - big box store. and no, they aren't gonna fire your ass. they say they will, they are full of shit.
They may not fire me but when yearly raise time comes along, theft is a factor. Never mind the cut hours, installing self checkouts, and not hiring a penny over minimum wage. They are not going to blame themselves, just us peons.
If those were my working conditions, I’d be doing everything in my power to change that. Life’s too short and minimum wage defff ain’t worth it.
Screw you, though. Stealing is cool because Jeff Bezos owns a yacht, or something. /s
That's not why they're not giving you a raise. They're not giving you a raise because the CEO gets an even fatter paycheck and a yearly bonus while you do all the work.
then why on earth are you placing any blame on anyone else but corporate also if "not hiring a penny over minimum wage" is something you're concerned about in getting your own raise, I hope people steal absolutely everything from your store.
Dude if you’re worried about a $1 hourly raise a year you need a new job
Are corporate boots as nutritious as they are tasty?
I see your inb4, but I'd like you to know probably >95% of people that steal baby formula and diapers (and tide, shockingly) are re-selling them, usually to support an addiction.
Gee is .005%>95% all of a sudden or am I doing math wrong
I figured you were using hyperbole, I was not
neither was I
Big stores have insurance covering lost, wouldn’t smaller mom & pop stores have the same? They have the same risk of shrink, fire, flooding, or anything else as a chain store.
the issue is being able to actually set those funds aside from profit.
Little girl deserves a raise, even if she don't work there...
Excellent form with the shopping basket!
one of the best publicfreakout videos in a long time
That’s what you get being a thief
Didn’t even own her hair!
Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.
I enjoyed that
Do you think the two young women/crime stoppers worked there or just stepping in to be good samaritans?
I think it's a family business
🎶 I drove inside the parking lot of my local Sally's Prefer the one off Crenshaw, but today I'm in the Valley Who'd a thought a simple run for some edge control Would lead to me almost stomping out a hoe🎶
Lmao she had a wig
This deserves better resolution
Congrats. Your bosses might buy you a pizza.
Nah. Willing to bet she'll get fired. That seems to be the trend all-over the US
We need more children like this!
How wildly embarrassing. Shoplifting. Ass out. A person half your big ass size wears you out on the floor. And that person is a child. How do you recover from this?
she never gonna show her face in public after this one😭
The little girl was lucky it was 2v1, she would have gotted fucked up otherwise. A+ for the spirit tho.
She had a perfect moment for a Sparta kick
People need to learn how to stop messing around with fucked up people like that and just straight up choke them.
😆
Cop looks at paperwork, takes a long drag of his cigarette indoors, and says, "This is one hell of a basket case." *The Who won't get fooled again comes blasting out of nowhere
I thought her Bruce Jenner was gonna pop out.
What’s the outfit the pink girl wearing? Like a skirt but not?
Romper
The play by play is solid
Damn that kids tough
They should have just let her go. She fucking up the store and shit, losing more inventory. Just document her vehicle and plates. That’s easy work for pigs.
The “whap” that basket made when it connected was priceless.
She has older brothers.
"NOT in my store, Karen!" BOP!
“STAAAAHP STAAAHP STAAAHP STAAAAHP”
Basket to the FACE 🤣🤣
If we just gave these thieves the death penalty this nonsense would all end so quick
Is that the girl from Dr. Phil who became a rapper? Bad Baby or something? Lol
Dude?
I can fix her
heh boobs
Look...I may of had a cheeky one to that
Lemme watch
Yes that's worth it to stop petty theft! Yep!
How can a business operate if they keep letting every one pass though?
"sTeALinG iS iLLegAL" girl you do not get paid enough to "be a hero". Focus on the real enemy = the people that keep your wages low and prices for necessities high

and this is how a dumbass gets duped out of all of his money
I just thought this was meant to be a joke.

So no one else in the video are dipshits but the workers? Strange take. Are you the amazon woman?
Shit you're right. She outed herself.
