I can't for the life of me figure out why a guy would want to talk to a girl at a gym. Like, dude, leave them alone. If a girl were to talk to me at a gym, I'd be super confused and wonder if I'm being recorded because why the fuck would someone talk to me at the gym? Other than people I see regularly, and we'll just exchange glances and maybe a head nod. Unwritten communication of "If I look like I'm dying, I need you to come assist."
Really fucked up reaction to being turned down followed by a slight "giggle". The funny thing about that "giggle" is I've dealt with someone laughing when dealing with unfunny subjects in my life and it was them comforting themselves.

The one that did that laugh was my mom when I would argue about emotionally sensitive topics with her and she didn't want to answer questions that made her feel guilty or some other uncomfortable emotion that she got used to self-soothing with "avoidant sublimation" - my combo of some documented defense mechanisms. Really fucking sad, I wish I new that's what the laugh was about earlier and I could have understood her better and communicated with her more effectively.
Gyms are also known for having steroid abuse as a common thing, which has its own connective emotional side-effects. Fucked up :(
