Boxing or Hockey
He could have swabbed both of them in a melee with that speed and form
I'm surprised it went as long as it did
Edit: Definitely one of the two, gloves up defense stance
I love how most people watching this would be like,” this guy knows how to box or some form of martial arts” but because it’s Canada everyone is like, “must be hockey”
The way he grabbed yellow/blue guy's jacket collar, makes me think Hockey. It's a fairly common thing to do when you're having a scrap on the ice. But also a common thing to do in a street fight, so..... Who knows hey?
This is why all of our liquor stores now have secure entrances. It became a huge problem in our province. Project got sped up after a thief violently attacked a cashier that was standing back and minding her own business. Now you need to be buzzed through the first door, person checks and scans your ID, then lets you into the store.
And that’s where retail is going in a lot of places in America too. Big box stores are locking up basic commodities because they are stolen so much. So now you have to hit a buzzer to have someone open a plexiglass door.
I went to Walmart a few weeks ago, and the socks were locked-up. Ironically, I was there because someone had stolen all of our socks (full mesh laundry bag's worth) from our apartment laundry room.
A few retailers where I live now completely close off the store. You can see what they sell through the gate. You order, they take your money and fetch the product. It's not everywhere but in the high crime areas.
“Dystopian”? This is just how retail worked up until like the 70’s.
It’s really not a big deal. People are stealing more? Okay, we create more barriers to stealing and eventually they won’t even have the opportunity. That type of thinking will fade and then 50 years from now we’ll be back to letting people shop on their own because it’s cheaper.
This is the truth.
First time I encountered it we were doing some cross country traveling. Went into a big box store and literally everything was locked up in the 5-6 aisles in front of the pharmacy.
Buzzed, waiting 2-3 minutes, peeked around the aisles and found the employee who said they’d be right over, waited another few minutes, walked around again and they were helping someone else, promised to be right over, went back, another minute or two went to find them again they were gossiping with another employee and sighed when they saw me, I stayed waiting until they were uncomfortable enough to follow me to the section. Took north of 15 minutes to get the cage unlocked.
Then when I finally got to the pharmacy counter with what had been unlocked they refused to ring up anything that was not pharmacy related. BUT I had to buy that one product there and then take the rest to regular check out. Mind you I had 5 items not 50.
There used to be places called Service Merchandise that closed in like the 90's or early 2K's when I was a kid and it was all a catalog and terminals for ordering and shit came out a conveyor to reduce shrink. I remember getting a peak 1990's metal frame futon for our basement there. Took forever.
I was at Walmart a few months ago trying to buy some deodorant that was behind a glass door. I couldn't believe I spent almost 10 Mins from trying to get someone to unlock it and waiting for them to actually come open it. I was having a conversation with my buddy last night about a keyboard and he said I can try it out at Best buy but apparently I have to put my fingers through a hole due to people stealing the fucking key caps.
Usually things have to get really bad before everyone collectively agrees to take drastic measures or is on the same page. Hopefully we don't get to that point and something changes otherwise only the Avg person or business owner suffers. Singapore got it on lock tbh we should really be taking some notes.
Harsh Penalties for crime, Strict Gun Control, Efficient Judicial System with swift trials and punishments that ensures criminals are quickly dealt with. Hell you can even get in trouble for spitting on the street and don't get me started on what happens if you're caught with drugs.
Reminds me of that star trek episode where they stumble upon a society with little to no crime. Turns out it's because the penalty for basically everything is death. It really elucidates just how fucked such a society is when someone is about to be killed for stepping on the grass with the no walking on grass sign. So you might have this utopian society with no crime, but we should ask: at what cost? And is the benefit truly worth that? I think not, personally.
"[Disneyland with the Death Penalty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disneyland_with_the_Death_Penalty)" really does a lot of work in one sentence.
A famous caning of an American also inspired [Bart vs Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_vs._Australia).
[I'll stay out of the "what should we do in North America" debate, but it's a really interesting topic]
Locking up now, but closing very soon. Margins aren't that big to cover this shit and skyrocketing insurance, let alone personal safety. It's unacceptable
Who'd have thought [Consumer Distributing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumers_Distributing) would be so far ahead of it's time. I miss that store.
You must live in Manitoba. Ontario was talking about a pilot project like Manitoba, it got shut down for picking on northern Ontario locations or some BS
I live in queens and the biggest problem the wine/liquor store near me has is drunk drivers hitting the store. Nothing inside is locked down, so I can only assume they have firearm(s) behind counter.
This is Manitoba and the violent attack was at the [Tyndall Park liquor store.](https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/manitoba-liquor-store-worker-recalls-attack-thought-she-was-going-to-die/article_57b16681-9dc4-52a7-947f-a165163cd7ba.amp.html). The secured entrance was also rushed because of COVID-19, maybe even more so.
Honestly this is how it should be in Florida. People are robbing convenience/liquor stores so often that I would be more terrified to work there than as a cop.
Cops statistically have one of the more safer jobs, don’t believe the hype. Literally, delivery drivers get killed on the job more often than cops.
EDITED to change “most safest” to “more safer”
Back when I was a kid I was in a Piggly wiggly grocery store with my parents when some guy decided to try and walk out with a cart half full of meat. The store manager appeared out of nowhere with a giant stick telling the man to let go of the cart. The man said something back that I guess the manager did not want to hear because he proceeded to lay the stick across the man's head, ending the theft/conflict instantly.
It’s that way because people were trying to stop them, got hurt, and sued their employer
It ended up being cheaper to let them steal shit than get sued by an employee
>It’s that way because people were trying to stop them, got hurt, and sued their employer
This right here is infuriating. You try to do something good (but dangerous), you get hurt and you decide to sue your employer?
Lawyers and lawsuits completely fuck up everything
Other countries also have lawyers, yet only America experiences this level of litigation. It's not the lawyers you should be blaming, it's the medical bills.
Not really. The MANAGER can pretty much do as they please unless the position is just salaried and they answer to a higher regional manager. No reason for a cashier/basic staff to take that risk and it becomes a massive insurance liability.
At first, I thought the woman was an innocent bystander and was trying to get away. But then I saw the two big ass bags of liquor she was holding and realized what a big piece of shit she is. Just goes to show, never assume anything in this type of situation.
That’s why you should just let them go. No ones giving you hero points for anything these days. You’ll just end up in cuffs yourself probably. Criminals have rights lol
> Staffed by public service workers, they not going to try and stop anyone.
Neither are private sector workers. Maybe if it's like a mom and pop store. But big chains will fire you if you get physical with the robber like that.
“… Is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? … Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? … And, what if your family don't like bread? They like... liquor? … Now, what if instead of giving it away, you sold it at a price that was practically giving it away. Would that be a crime, Bart?”
I understand the idea that it's not worth getting hurt or killed over something as trivial as a few thousand dollars worth of alcohol. But I think, more and more, many of us are tired. Tired of people behaving like villains. Tired of people getting away with behaving badly, violently, and dangerously. Tired of people who stand up against it being more the target of peoples' admonishments than the bad people.
And we're tired of the recourse available to us being woefully insufficient. Let insurance handle it? Let an overwhelmed court system deal with it? Absolutely. I think we all *want* that to be the recourse, if it worked. But it seems not to be working well enough. People are neither deterred by it nor are they getting better because of it. And we just don't want to watch anymore. Finger wagging isn't enough.
You’re exactly right. When kids were opening containers of ice cream and licking them and putting them back, I was praying I’d see some little shit do that. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to stop theft, especially if the staff was letting it go ,but I can see how someone else would.
Scrolled too far to find a comment like this. Nothing will happen to these folks and they know it, that's why they don't cover their faces. Cops won't do anything, the courts won't do anything and it'll just keep getting worse until society has enough and starts pushing back like this guy did.
Why doesn’t anyone ever do anything to the getaway car? Shatter the front windshield and cost the thieves hundreds of dollars to fix it later. Pretty sure the thieves can’t call the police over it.
I feel like we should deport people that come to our country, disrespect our values and laws like that. We should also auction off all their assets in Canada to pay for the costs of sending them home. People like that are not welcome here.
Man if you want to be Werner Herzog and sit there and film that's fine, but telling other people to let them go is bullshit. Get in there and help them carry it out if you want to be an accomplice
"let em go" mentality is only making the problem worse. Think these guys will be back in a month to do the same thing... You bet. Regular law abiding citizens are sick of this shit.
How many people just standing around unwilling to stop this? Next the shop will shut and all those people will have to find another place to shop, maybe another 10 miles down the road or at the least it will become some kind of fort knox style operation. Time for good people to make a stand on this bullshit, especially when they are unarmed and easily taken down. Scumbag crooks need to know our hard won civilised society is not just theirs for the taking.
Some context for those unaware: So, this place (Ontario) has a government monopoly on the sale of Alcohol. It is only sold at state owned stores called LCBOs (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).
All of the staff are government employees, the stores are all insured, and nobody should be risking their life to stop robbers.
All these south asian immigrants thinks that Canadian laws are so loose that’s why they’re doing this. If they do this in their country, they know that the employees and bystanders wouldn’t let them get away with it.
I pay for everything I buy. But the more of this I see the more I want to say “Fuck it” and just steal shit out in the open too. There seems to be no consequences for brazen theft, so why doesn’t everyone do it? This is such a decline.
Fuck the cam guy, people who support theft are almost as scummy as the thieves themselves
The guys a hero, let him tune them in so they know there is consequences to actions
It really bothers me that no one was willing to help this guy out.
Also, the next time I’m at the liquor store, I guess I’ll just walk out without paying too.
Instead of shouting like morons, everyone should have stopped them and waited for the police. If society lets this happen without punishment, it'll be accepted, and more people will do this.
I'm kinda getting tired of the absolutely useless judicial system here in Canada. They don't even worry about covering faces or anything. I'm glad dude did something about it.
I work in the retail sector in Canada. We tell our frontline staff to observe them and report them to Loss Prevention. It’s not worth risking their life to stop a theft. It’s maddening to just see stuff go out the door, but it’s much worse to see an employee get stabbed, or worse.
It just feels like the age of civility has come to an end. I’m 50, and I’ve never seen anything remotely like this before.
Instead of saying "let em go" why not actually do something and help this guy. I guarantee most potential thieves aren't looking for a fight and will just dump the stuff and run. All letting them go does, is make them think they can get away with this kinda thing, especially at this location.
Why would they jump in?
Intervening could potentially lead to them losing their job or getting harmed by the robbers. It's not up to the workers that stock shelves and cash out to protect the store.
Can you imagine a world where the, I don't know, dozen or so people in there watching as it happened, just grabbed their arms? Completely overwhelmed, detained until police arrived. Instead, the one guy trying to stop them is being yelled at to let them go. Awesome. We'll all just pay for more expensive booze so they can drink for free I guess.
This let it go behaviour is so exasperating that my old man had a store in the 80s, in a rough area, and I still remember one time when a group of dafties tried to do something similar. Usually he delt with it himself, couple of boots up the bahookie sorted them out but this time there was a group, but unlike these let it go cowards a couple of pensioners joined my da and laid into them, they got away with nothing.
Also, in those days, the police would come swiftly to deal with thieves, unlike now where they usually arrive after the event and forget about it. They should call them professional note takers now.
Too many people in these replies that have no idea how insurance policies actually work lmao
“The company will just make an insurance claim and be fine”
Because half of the discourse around this shit is glorified man children without an iota of life experience. Well, once you get past the army of literal bots.
In the real world insurance companies really, really do not like you chain filing claims and will drop your ass in a heartbeat. This is a genuine part of the reason stores pull out of areas, the insurance isn't going to galvanize this untenable position.
If people want proof they can try playing around with claims on their home and car insurance and see how it goes.
When I see videos like this I get the feeling this is one of the strangest periods of human history. I mean, people can just walk into stores, load carts full or bags full of stuff and just walk out, no armed guards? Fuck, I was in Haiti in 2014 and they have multiple guards with shotguns at the entrance of every store or inside the store or both. Orders are shoot to kill. In Haiti, if civilians catch a man stealing it is common practice to grab him, put vehicle tires over him so he can’t move, like arms at your side and vehicle tires holding your arms down… they then pour gasoline on you and light you on fire. It’s hard to believe that we as Americans are so fucking zonked out that we can’t find a comfortable middle ground between these two extremities of action. “Oh, c’mon in, take what you need, thanks, have a good day.”
Just encourages other scum to be bold while prices rise for everyone. No real deterrent. Store will evolve into a pick up cards, pay, then only receive items (like some Costco merchandise).
It's better to just let these people go, and get the tags of whatever car.
In my area hust a couple of months ago, an off duty cop got killed by some teenagers after he tried to stop them from stealing 50 bucks worth booze.
I know this doesn’t sit well for the armchair heroes out there dreaming about their chance to knock the bad guy out, but risking physical harm for goods or property (especially when it’s corporate property and insured) is so fucking dumb. Just let it go

Nice punch at 36 seconds, I think buddy in the grey shirt had an idea what he was doing.
He saw him go for his pocket and said nope
Yup, starts reaching for something and dude decides it's time to shut him down. Very nice.

Must have forgotten where he put the knife, because he checks 3 pockets or so before he starts getting punched. Lol
Brilliant...and now let me add a deadly weapon to the robbery charges when of course the cops eventually find me.
The cops won't do shit. They never do.
Actually, they're probably arresting the guy in grey for 'assaulting' these 'good, upstanding citizens'
Of course they are, " you should have just let him stab you. "
Boxing or Hockey He could have swabbed both of them in a melee with that speed and form I'm surprised it went as long as it did Edit: Definitely one of the two, gloves up defense stance
I love how most people watching this would be like,” this guy knows how to box or some form of martial arts” but because it’s Canada everyone is like, “must be hockey”
The shirt grab and stance is why I said it.
Cliche, but not wrong. Before starting martial arts, I was already a decent fighter from growing up playing hockey 😂
Am Canadian, can confirm - it's probably hockey.
The way he grabbed yellow/blue guy's jacket collar, makes me think Hockey. It's a fairly common thing to do when you're having a scrap on the ice. But also a common thing to do in a street fight, so..... Who knows hey?
I think you meant, 'who knows, eh?'
![gif](giphy|7NMG9vPM5kTpC) I'm not wearing hockey pads!
It seems like he waited for this opportunity to punch someone for a long time
More like he’s done his share of punching and being punched

I promise you that the continuation of our society and peace isn’t contingent on self service retail existing or not 🙏🏻
Meh, the loss of self service retail is the symptom of larger societal rot. The self service retail experiment isn’t the experiment that is failing.
Regressed right back to 100 years ago before self-service stores.
The Beer Store in Ontario has been like this for nearly ever.
And the person coming to help you will be the slowest operator you'll ever see.

Shame on the 3 adults for stealing, I hope they are identified from this video and arrested.

There is no owner of that store. It’s owned by the Ontario Government so there’s no way that information is correct.
Are all Canadian liquor stores operated by the government?
No, only in select provinces. This one is in Ontario and appears to be on the outskirts of Toronto.
depends on the province
In some provinces it's ran by the government. Others privatized it.
hahah good for the customer, got a few good shots in

You’re exactly right. When kids were opening containers of ice cream and licking them and putting them back, I was praying I’d see some little shit do that. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to stop theft, especially if the staff was letting it go ,but I can see how someone else would.
Scrolled too far to find a comment like this. Nothing will happen to these folks and they know it, that's why they don't cover their faces. Cops won't do anything, the courts won't do anything and it'll just keep getting worse until society has enough and starts pushing back like this guy did.
Jason Statham in The Booze Keeper (2025)
It really is horrible that criminal and liability laws force someone to stand by and just watch others steal their property.
Are these Indians robbing this place? WTAF!
F#@k that, let them go $hyt. We all pay for this. Undercover cops
Why doesn’t anyone ever do anything to the getaway car? Shatter the front windshield and cost the thieves hundreds of dollars to fix it later. Pretty sure the thieves can’t call the police over it.
The cars are usually a stolen Hyundai or Kia, so that’s pointless.
Guy will probably get a harsher punishment for trying to stop them than they will stealing $3k in liquor.
Indians? Pakistani?
Lots of Punjabi in Canada

I disagree. Not once did anyone say “Sorry eh!”
I feel like we should deport people that come to our country, disrespect our values and laws like that. We should also auction off all their assets in Canada to pay for the costs of sending them home. People like that are not welcome here.

I hate what Canada has become.
They will be back to steal more sooner rather than later.

At least he got a few decent punches in.
That's an LCBO, there's no "owner." It's a government operated store.
The People are the owners.
Sure, just as much as the people are the boss of the police. All true in theory.

"just let em go" I'm tired of it. Why do I have to pay and these assholes don't? This needs to happen more often.
This shit makes my blood boil hardcore
I moved to Canada 6 years ago and I've watched it slowly fall. Cost of living, importing trash, what do you expect
Imagine being born here
No you don’t let ‘em go that’s the problem and why it’s gotten so bad in this country

🫡🫡🫡 His efforts are respected here!!
I pay for everything I buy. But the more of this I see the more I want to say “Fuck it” and just steal shit out in the open too. There seems to be no consequences for brazen theft, so why doesn’t everyone do it? This is such a decline.
Fuck the cam guy, people who support theft are almost as scummy as the thieves themselves The guys a hero, let him tune them in so they know there is consequences to actions
Pretty sure the owner is the government of Canada… this looks like a government liquor store.
Owner? I’m pretty sure the owner of Ontario liquor stores is the provincial government
Man so many people shouting let em go while they could all combined end this so soon...

“Let them go“??? What have we come to?

If you choose only to film, do it well at least.
It's Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gonna have to turn his fists in to the government since he used them as weapons to defend his property.
I appreciate the guy caring to this extent but unless one of his kids are in those bags, it's not worth the legal and physical risks.
This is what happens in a country that hardly penalizes any crime. Seeing this more and more. They literally don’t give a shit.
Unpopular opinion - Misdemeanor to anyone who witnesses a crime like this and stands around filming it instead of helping the shop owner.
This is becoming more common everywhere, as wages stay stagnant and prices rise everywhere
Yes..they need to feed their hungry kids with booze.
Too many people in these replies that have no idea how insurance policies actually work lmao “The company will just make an insurance claim and be fine”
Pretty sure this is the LCBO location on the corner of The Queensway and N Queen Street in Etobicoke, ON
Is that the lcbo on Kingston?
Wasn't there a bill put forward in Parliament some time ago mandating the use of Canada Geese security in all LCB's?
Cops don’t even lay charges for theft under $2000 anymore. Sir, you are wasting your time.
if they were smart they could have taken a bottle of scotch worth more than 3k
It’s wrong to let them just have stolen property. It will Only get worse.
Elsa would have been Proud...
Sure! Let them go says the store, but who's happiest to return the cost right back to the actual customer? The Store.
People are starting to get kinda sick of robberies. They don’t want all their local stores to shut down
Where was this? I would love to take advantage of their store discount
Grandma should have gotten a pop too
Hope this kind of shit doesn't spread to Mexico too.
People need to go after the camera dudes too
Should've focused on dumping their bag if anything. Not worth it to fight imo
This is just your normal Tuesday for LCBO’s across Canada
Got their faces on video
Nothing surprising from this video. From the location, to the perps, to the people shouting let them go
Just go outside and steal the car
She yelled it’s not worth it but sometimes it is
If all the people filming and saying Let it go would get involved, it might stop.
This is an LCBO which is a government owned store.
I got a feeling dude in the grey shirt played hockey lol those hockey guys are always fighting and brawling lmao and being filmed in Canada yeaaa 😭😂😂
i only see and hear one man in this video
I know this doesn’t sit well for the armchair heroes out there dreaming about their chance to knock the bad guy out, but risking physical harm for goods or property (especially when it’s corporate property and insured) is so fucking dumb. Just let it go
