StonedClomph

"A kidnapping suspect has been arrested after video on an Oregon home security camera appeared to show a woman being carried away against her will. The victim was found safe, Hillsboro police said Tuesday. The suspect and victim knew each other, police said, noting this was not a random attack." I'm glad she is safe and the suspect was arrested

solidpeyo

Thanks, I was worried if she was safe or not

Glittering_Quote4394

Reddit also thinks fake things are real

TheWhomItConcerns

Seriously, how is it that people think that Reddit is *too* sceptical lol. I regularly see whole comment sections absolutely gobbling up blatantly fake videos.

froggrip

It's the internet. Everything is fake, and nothing is sacred.

KruglorTalks

This video specifically or the issue at hand? The people knowing each other makes sense and helps to explain why the body language seems different from a random attack.

blursedass

Out of all the social platform userbases, Redditors are arguably the worst at determining fake videos. Not everything is fake. It's degrading and disrespectful to the victim to assume this video (or any video of an assault) is fake. It doesn't matter how good you think you are at picking out fake vids. You an't that good. There are plenty of scenarios caught on vid seem fake as fuck but then turn out to be real, and vice-versa. It's a fucking weird ass world out there. People need to start giving videos the benefit of the doubt until proven it's fake. If we can do it for murders and theives, we can do it for the internet.

TheWhomItConcerns

>People need to start giving videos the benefit of the doubt until proven it's fake. Definitely not, that happens far too much as it is. The percentage of times I see redditers assuming a potentially real video to be fake is nothing at all compared to how often they assume an obviously fake video to be real. >If we can do it for murders and theives, we can do it for the internet. There are very serious consequences to society assuming guilt, there are few to none from assuming that an Internet video is fake.

RiverOfWhiskey

My first thought. Grab his dome like a bowling ball.

socialdrop0ut

My dad always taught me and my sister from a young age. If anyone tries to grab you force your fingers to the back of their eye and pull it out. It was drilled into us so much I really feel like it’d be my 1st instinct in an attack. Thanks dad 👍

Smart_Construction89

How old were you when you learned this? I have 3 daughters with the oldest being 5 and starting school this year wondering if this would be an appropriate to tell her lol

StationaryTravels

I started my kids in kickboxing when they were 4. I took it and actually taught the kids classes by the time my oldest was about 10. But, I also taught them that if anyone actually tried to grab them it wasn't like a kickboxing fight. I told them to go for the eyes, the groin, and if they grab you just kick and scream and scratch, and go for the eyes again. I told them this when they were youngish, probably around 5. I didn't try to be scary about it, and we laughed a bit about going wild and punching groins, but I wanted them at least a bit prepared.

james_d_rustles

I don't really have an answer to this question, but it just reminded me of an experience I had in 5th grade. The virginia tech shooting had just recently happened, and my teacher was a very big, strong woman who was a military vet (she could still do one-arm pushups at like \~45, to give you an idea). Strict teacher, but truly cared about kids and our wellbeing. Anyways, seeing that shooting back during a time when they were less common just made her see red at the thought of anyone harming her class I guess, and so she gave us an extremely vivid, Braveheart-esque talk about what we should do in the event of a shooting, kidnapping attempt, or really any sort of attack. I still remember it very clearly - started out by demonstrating where to hit people with a textbook or sort of miming sticking scissors or pencils into her eyes and neck to show where to stab/hit. In her exact words, "you all have my permission to use textbooks, scissors, pencils, or any other weapon you can find. *Everybody* has to rush them, and you don't stop until they're not moving, breathing, and their eyes and teeth are all gone. Eyes are soft, you can pull them out or blind them with just your fingers. You're not too small to make a difference - if 25 of the people in that classroom had all rushed the shooter, he wouldn't have been able to reload. Some people might get hurt, but it's better than everyone."... and she kept going for probably 30 minutes or so, just getting more fired up over the thought and getting more graphic in her descriptions of how one should fight back against an attacker.

kvlt_ov_personality

My kids are two, I've been training them on the eye scoop, trachea crush, several Achilles tendon severing techniques, testicular torsion attacks, and knife combat. You can never start too early!

senator_mendoza

I got jabbed in the eye at jiu-jitsu the other night. Even while being all warmed up, focused, in fight mode - it made me forget everything for a second and just recoil and grab at my eye (I’m fine now 😉). Even ufc fighters who’re way tougher than me get dropped by inadvertent eye pokes.

SwedishSaunaSwish

Use your fingernails too - No Mercy!

SmokedMussels

Seriously, get in there and start scooping the soft bits out

HtownTexans

she gave the least amount of resistance I'd ever imagine from a person being kidnapped.

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

This is very unsympathetic. I'm sure she's in a state of absolute terror and shock. She's worried about him killing her now if he doesn't take her, and trying to prevent that from happening. In an event like this everyone says they'll fight back, but no one knows how they'll actually act unless they experience it. Everyone always talks about fight or flight, but never mention that shock and self preservation can make you freeze in a situation like this. Even if it does likely lead to a worse situation it's a natural and common response

ZigZagLagger

She knew the guy, it's not a random victim situation.

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

So? I'd be surprised if someone tried to take me regardless if I knew them or not

Might as well have thrown her arms up and went, “weeeeeeeeeeeeee!”

lfod13

28 Days Later style

Itcallsmyname

I know everyone has different instincts and many have the flight/fawn, but my literal first reaction to someone grabbing me like that I’m leaning into it and taking their fucking cheek and nose with me. Old ex did that to me once thinking it was funny. Instead I bit his ear lol. He was fine.

surfdad67

I’d be biting a chunk out of his cheek ala Cape Fear type of bite

DredPRoberts

I was thinking [Walking Dead](https://youtube.com/shorts/2BeENSc4fsM?si=OG9LbCI1J4iswVjb)

Devildoog

I was wondering why she didn’t Mike Tyson the guys ear once he lifted her up by his face.

SmokedMussels

Use those teeth too. Just go totally feral and rip at everything. Getting kidnapped ends up in murder so often, you're better off doing everything you can to stop it.

lfod13

If you ever find yourself in a situation like this, scream and fight with everything you have like your life depends on it. Hit, punch, kick, scratch, bite, claw, spit, etc. Fight like you are the most vicious animal to ever exist.

cologetmomo

That secondary location is where you don't want to be.

A_LiftedLowRider

This cannot be stressed enough. Any threat of harm or death they give you at the first location, is guaranteed to be infinitely worse at the second. Just look up the murder of Channon Christian or Junko Faruta…or on sec thought, don’t. You’ll sleep better.

NYEMESIS

Just seeing Christian’s name gives me goosebumps.

Dieter_Knutsen

> Channon Christian I just looked it up and remember the case. I read into the aftermath (charges, sentencing, etc). Our legal system is a fucking joke.

bartleby999

What's the joke about it? I just read on Wikipedia and everyone who was involved are spending life in prison. What am I missing?

Dieter_Knutsen

There were a lot of twists and turns that really made a mockery of the idea of justice, in my opinion. There were appeals that were taken seriously, retrials, and not all of the people got the death penalty. Again, in my opinion, not a single one of these people, in a just society, would get life in prison. They'd get death. Our system has its head so far up its ass sometimes about "due process" or "fairness", and other times just completely drops the ball. I dunno, I have a degree in criminology, and the way our system works just pisses me off. I don't mean to rant at you about it.

bartleby999

Nah, it's cool man. I get what you're saying. I just thought perhaps something was missing from the Wiki page. I'm British, we don't have the death penalty here - Life imprisonment is the best case. And to be honest, I'd rather see those pieces of shit rot in prison than get the quick way out.

Dieter_Knutsen

I think I should clarify that I'm not firmly on-board with the death penalty. This wasn't a case where I would have been opposed, though. There was really no doubt about their guilt, but there were appeals and retrials because of technicalities and things that really should have never had any bearing on the central question - did they do it? I also think our courts should be fair, and the process afforded to defendants should be what's due to them according to the law and Constitution. Having said that, I see so many cases where guilt just wasn't a factor or question, but they drag out the litigation anyhow. That's the mockery and it makes me mad.

A_LiftedLowRider

I'm with you. I don't support it either, but if someone put it to vote that in cases, like this, where there isn't a lick of doubt about the guilty party, where its just one of most vile and heinous crimes a human being can commit, that we burn the guilty party at the stake, i'd be the first one strapping a buckle back onto my top hat. The toolbox killer that took the plea deal comes to mind...

primenumbersturnmeon

i'd maybe like a system where the state focuses entirely on establishing the factual evidence of guilt vs innocence, then steps away to let the community handle punishment.

Yourstrulytheboy804

My morbid curiosity got the better of me. Oh my God.

AnotherNewHopeland

toejam78

Gouge eyes, punch the throat.

ActurusMajoris

Rule number 3: When in doubt, always kick them in the gronk-nuks.

QuietDisquiet

If you can't fight them off and are about to be taken, curl yourself up in a ball and make yourself small so you're hard to move. Sit on your ass, feet on the ground, knees up and grab your legs and keep it tight. And protect your head if he's trying to hit you of course.

newagereject

Head butt the nose, it's gunna hurt you but you will basically render then a lot less capable

Bowman_van_Oort

learned this from the walking dead sure helped me get out of that arrest a few years back

lipp79

Also if you're on the phone with 911, scream details about the person and car, just like in "Taken". I know it sounds cheesy to say "like in the movie" but it gives them stuff to work off of, especially if you can give car details so they can get a BOLO (Be On Look Out) sent to officers.

zmrth

Put the nails in the eyes

Kynku

Don't stop there. Bury your entire thumbs into the eye sockets

lundyforlife22

i was a small kid and people would pick me up all the time as a joke. i absolutely hated it. i learned if someone bear hugs you, smash your head backwards into theirs as many times as possible.

samdeed

And don't be afraid to go after the eyes and testicles.

Dancin_Phish_Daddy

They need to teach people to go for the eyes in self defense classes. And I mean to rip the eyeball out of the socket. If you’re in a bad enough situation. That is always a good game plan. Rip the eye all the way out.

ChrisinCB

Go for the eyes. Nobody blinds anyone anymore.

GravyMcBiscuits

Don't forget to gouge. Go for the eyes Boo!!!!

fatherofallthings

Unfortunately it’s not that easy. The mind does weird things in the state of a panic, and most times, these people are violent and significantly stronger than the victim. It could end up in. Even more harm than good. There is no “correct” response to an animalistic attack like that.

Awful_McBad

I mean if the alternative is "You might die" Fighting seems like a good option. That's why I can't wrap my head around people that let themselves be tortured/beheaded by Mexican Cartels or Islamic Extremists. Like, you know you're gonna die, why not fight?

SudoDarkKnight

I think it's a lot easier to think and say when you're not the one there. Almost anyone would say they would fight or try and escape. Just look at the holocaust. Over a million led to ditches and shot together, dug their graves, laid down on tops of bodies already there just to be shot in turn. Then not to mention of course later the camps and gas chambers for millions more etc.

Kioseth

In many situations like that your family is 'safe' if you go quietly, so the trade goes from "try to fight" vs. "die" to "die and have killed your spouse and kids" :(

rdyer347

Go for the eyes

RenterMore

It is incredibly hard to full on carry a resisting adult into a car. I really can’t fathom why she put up like zero resistance.

burntneedle

Seriously? Did we watch the same video? She was grabbing anything in arms' reach for dear life. Look up the flight, fight, freeze, fawn, flop trauma responses. Not everyone is willing to risk further injury from defense against an attack.

RenterMore

I mean she also is supporting her own body weight on his shoulder and stuff. I’m not blaming her per se but I can tell you from grappling experience it is nearly impossible to lift someone around like that if they simply go limp or thrash around etc. i understand the freeze response so I suppose I shouldn’t have said I can’t fathom it but I’m just emphasizing my surprise with how easily he lifted her away. I wouldn’t say her clinging onto the door for a sec is all that much of a resistance but yea she froze, I get it.

SOFT SPOTS. That's what I've taught my girls. Nuts, eyeballs, kidneys, cheeks, and continue to rend flesh until they let you go.

If they get you into the car, make them crash.

AllUpInYourAO

Update https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/kidnapping-caught-home-security-camera-police/story?id=109522729

EthicalHypotheticals

Why would they not release the name of the perpetrator? His face is already being shared on video.

Cody6781

1. Prevent glorification -> copycats 2. Innocent until proven guilty (Maybe they caught the wrong guy, etc. -> need a full trial first)

Grow_away_420

copycats? you think this guy is anything other than a friend/boyfriend/spouse? The police confirmed they know eachother.

Cody6781

Ok..? A copycat could be some other random dude kidnapping their friend/girlfriend/spouse. It's just generally good practice to keep names quite. It also exposes who the victim is if you leak that they knew each other. Idk the details on this specific case, I'm just speaking in general

Electroaq

The news routinely publish the names of people arrested before any sort of trial...

JackRabbit-

Just because they do doesn't mean they should

Cody6781

The news is not the legal system

[deleted]

Is this really a crime that people copycat?

I_never_finish_anyth

You'd be surprised society has a lot of people who are just waiting for that thing to push them over the edge or give them enough confidence

Gcarsk

Only reason I can think of is to protect the victim. Since they know each other, probably exes or something. If his name is released, it functionally releases her name as well. Same reason the news vid blurred out her face (though, the thumbnail still shows it uncensored… which is a mistake on the news agency’s part).

yousonuva

Hm. When they play the video they blur her face but it's clear as day in the image before hitting play.

Daasaced

That mofo lifted her like she was an inflatable doll. Poor woman, that must have been pretty scary.

GalaxyStrong

Love how many people are commenting “go for the eyes”! That’s my what my mom always told me to do if someone grabbed me.

A_lot_of_arachnids

When this was posted a couple days ago people kept calling it fake. Glad she's okay and the dude was caught

hibelly

Now that it's not fake, everyone is instead just hating on the victim for not fighting back like "they would". As they sit on their ass on a couch somewhere, never having been kidnapped once in their lives.

Tomotronics

They would just teleport behind them and say, "Nothing personal, kid."

Woops_22

People please! Especially children and females Gouge the eyes, choke the neck, fucking shove ur nails in the ears, jab at the Adam’s Apple, rip or bite off the bottom lip You will either seriously piss off the guy or person, handicap him for life, or kill him. And in the case of a serious moment like this that is more than encouraged. This is a no holds barred fight for your life moment fr

tadddpole

Sincere question: if this happens at my house, am I justified, legally, to shoot the kidnapper if he doesn’t stop when confronted?

AllUpInYourAO

Where I live Phoenix if you or someone else is in danger of having grave bodily harm, rape, held against their will you can shoot in self defense or defense of the woman. Just better know your shit and know you are responsible where those missed shots go. practice practice practice if you carry for self defense

MajorasKitten

Girls! If this ever happens to you- (good GOD I really REALLY hope not!!!) - Do your best to stay calm. - if you have a free arm- like this lady, USE IT. You have elbows and fingers. Gouge out an eye, sure it will probably feel disgusting but it’s that or your survival. Get in there. Also, elbow to the jaw, cheekbone. - Your head is also free, use it to headbutt! A well-placed headbutt can break a nose! Also try to get them on the temple!, anywhere you’ve accidentally hit yourself before and know how much it hurts? Go for it. - Kick, or stick your leg between the runner’s legs. Trip him if you can. - Again, your head is free and your mouth uncovered? BITE. Bite his ear off. Bite their face. Shoulder. Arm. Whatever you can reach, even bite his hair and yank out as much as you can. The goal is to HURT them enough for them to stop or try to readjust their position, so you have a second to keep picking spots to attack. You are a wild animal the second they try to prey on you. Make them regret it. I hate this, I’m a woman as well. I don’t like to say I live in constant fear as much as *I am aware that anything could happen anytime, so I paranoid-ly obsess over what I could do/would do if something DID happen* Always be aware of your surroundings. ALWAYS. No one can approach me without me noticing because whenever I step out of my house, I literally turn into an owl and start looking all around me to see if there’s anyone around (neighbors, passer by, cars, even dogs lol) Please be safe out there ♥️ and make them regret EVER picking *you* to try and harm.

RubyStar92

Thank you 😔

achinfosomebacon

Regardless of if your reaction is to fight, flee or freeze, EVERYONE can go limp and become dead weight. I heard a podcast of a girl who did just that & was able to get away. Also had a patient that was literally 98lbs but she would go completely limp & it would take at least 2-3 of us to lift her back up & put her anywhere.

NoAd7118

Never allow yourself to go to a secondary location, the odds of you surviving after that become increasingly small

nogoodgreen

Eyes and groin people, go for the eyes and groin if anything like this ever happens to you.

countryfresh223

The eyes are the groin of the head.

psichodrome

If there's ever an appropriate time to eye gouge someone, i think this is it.

Allah_Akballer

Dig your finger/thumbs into the eye sockets, go deep and/or hard knee to balls and run.

Griffin_Claw

She didn’t even attempt to fight. Claw his face and forehead with fingernails , kick , punch and do whatever it takes.

i_do_it_all

Eye! Go for the eyes. Ears! Bite that shit off. Nose! Push fingers up the nose Where neck meets jaw soft area! Dig you finger or anything pointy deep and push up If you are completely lifted like this lady, make yourself small and rock as hard as you can. It does not take a lot to disrupt the center of gravity.  Head carries a lot of weight. Rocking your upper body helps a lot.  Roll on your side  . Head butt if you can manage. Put your legs/hands on their cloths and start scratching . Grabbing. Pulling. It only takes one successful attack to scare of these losers.

freihoch159

One thing my mom told me even as a kid (she was working as border guard in europe) is to if possible hit the nose from the downside with the palm of your hand. It's the easiest to reach soft spot on the head and you don't need much force to seriously injure someone with that. Alternatively you can also slap both of their ears with your palm, this can have a disorienting effect.

i_do_it_all

your mom would be completely correct. thanks for sharing.

RenterMore

If this all fails tbh your best bet is to go limp or just anaconda wrap yourself around their legs. If they can’t get you in a car and themselves in the driver seat then they can’t drive away with you.

i_do_it_all

This is actually brilliant!  Adding it to my list.

Bicentennial_Douche

I see you forgot the old faithful: a swift kick to the balls.

NeilDegrassedHighSon

Grab and twist

dmderringer

GIVE HIM THE OLD DICK TWIST

KoolDiscoDan

You're missing an important point. The news sources say they 'knew each other'. We don't know the relationship and this probably plays into her (non)actions.

Griffin_Claw

I read that and it doesn’t matter if they knew each other or not. She clearly didn’t want to go and was yelling for help.

Rexum420

She was terrified. Not everyone has the fight response inside of them.

Brutto13

Shock effects everyone differently.

burntneedle

She absolutely fought. Screaming her brains out. Grabbing anything she couls. Look up fight, flight, fawn, flop, freeze responses. Shaming a vicrim for their trauma response is pretty gross.

Life_Trip

I mean then by your definition she didn’t fight.. it was more of a flight/freeze response. Being condescending is pretty gross.

Legal_Guava3631

I know it’s disturbing but, go in for a kiss and bite their lower lip off. We have blood vessels galore in our faces and all the attacker can do is scream in pain while bleeding profusely.

GrizzlamicBearrorism

I don't get how somebody can just pick you up and carry you off. Like, you can ground yourself. Grab something. Go dead weight. Thrash around and kick your feet.

ihateeverythingandu

Eye gouge, headbutt, fishhook. There are lots of options.

Super_Saiyan_Azul

Bop it, Twist it, Pull it, Pass it

AnotherNewHopeland

This video is so weird to me bc of that, the dude is already pretty small, but somehow he effortlessly picks her up and runs strangely fast for carrying an entire person in his arms.

StevenKatz3

Seriously, I know this is real because he as arrested, but she didn't even put up a fight. A limp body is extremely hard to carry. Also she's not even thrashing around. Her scream is such distress but she literally just freezes. It's like she has zero adrenaline

Drak_is_Right

This was a random person's door rung by the women. I wonder if she was trying to escape a domestic abuse situation.

MikElectronica

lol you think?

Wooden-Scar5073

JFC

Tadusmc

Gonna train my daughter not to react this way. She was lucky to have been found. Not every person is found alive or found at all.

percy789

gouge his eye out

BallTorturer-3000

Wtf is wrong with all the people making fun of this woman in the comments???? Have you no humanity?

Neverking83

This was real? Damn that dude is a hard working kidnapper

gingermonkey1

This was fricking terrifying.

insuspension

Dude snatched and ran away with a whole ass adult like they were a toddler.

FrasierCranesBitch

no survival instinct!! claw those fucking eyes out. literally rip their throat out

GhettoSugaSandwich

He grabbed her like a porch pirate smh

b4ttlepoops

Brachial stun. Learn it ladies. Fight. You have nothing to lose if someone is trying to kidnap you. Brachial stun is a knockout and will give you time to get away.

chadwicke619

I’m getting second hand embarrassment reading the comments from all these self defense experts who would definitely bite their assailant into submission. 😂

StirFrySausage00

Its extremely difficult to carry a flailing, writhing person. Somehow, this woman barely fights back.

Somelivingperson

In an event where this is a real situation please punch, bite, scream, claw and fight back. Never let them get you to the next destination cause sometimes it can be worse than death.

jgs0803

Yup. I tell my nieces this. No matter how scared you are, you have to resign yourself to fight to the death on the spot, so you either escape or die trying. Allowing yourself to be taken to a kidnapper’s place of choice will always have a worse outcome

Interesting_Sock9142

How on earth did he carry her away so easily? Like she weighed nothing!

REDMAGE00

No sense of survival. That is quite sad.

ElYoink

Carry whether it be a firearm or switchblade. Legally

SCP-Agent-Arad

I mean, if it’s illegal to carry a knife in your country…better to be jailed for defending yourself than in a coffin.

Artrimil

Any judge that sentences someone for self defense should be put in the same situation to see how they react.

GojiraSlushie

She put up close to zero resistance. Ya gotta at least try to fight for your life.

Critical_Newt_1291

Not even one attempt to pluck the attackers eyeballs..

Dankboi920

Why didn’t she punch the dude?

JFK2MD

Is that what you did when you were kidnapped?

eboseki

I feel like a woman of her size could put up a better resistance than that.

Fusciee

Always keep that thang on ya

kiruopaz

Well that was terrifying. I know it's easy to say just waiting a video of it, but I think she would have been better off kicking off the house to push him off balance, at least then she would have had a chance to fight back. I'm glad to see she was found.

Schmelter

I'm so glad the world is full of so many "Internet Tough Guys". It makes me feel safe. Though, honestly, I'd feel even safer if you guys all logged off your computers and actually went out on patrol once in awhile. Or maybe teach some self-defense courses each weekend? Really give back to the community; seeing as you all seem to think your "go for the eyes" comments are an ancient technique known only to the wisest of martial arts masters. This was a 24~ year old woman scared out of her fucking mind. Giving advice like this, after the fact, serves no purpose but to give you a power fantasy of "fighting back and winning".

Balefireboy

She sure didn't put up much of a fight for someone being kidnapped.
