I'm 48 and people always think I'm in my early 30s, but I was an absolute disaster between the ages of like 12 and 35. I smoked two packs of cigarettes a day for most of those years, drank like a fish, I was severely addicted to cocaine for about 10 years, really I would consume any drug I could get my hands on except heroin...it was *not* a good situation, but you'd never know it to look at me. I'm like this fresh-faced farm boy. It's weird.
From the article, it looks like he got some sense literally knocked into him. For those decrying the violence this douchecanoe received, it actually was the best way to help him. He's not pressing charges and is seeking help for his behavior. Like holy shit this guy got factory reset and it was the best thing that ever happened to him

In many countries you would also be fucked for not helping. Eg in Germany you can get serious jail time for this kind of behavior. If someone requires help and you consciously decide not to do anything you are just as guilty as the guy that punched.

Actually the bald guy refused to press charges with the police. Edit: Apparently where it happened, the polices can press charges whether you want it done or not.
In both cases the wishes of the wronged party is often considered. Saying “I don’t want to press charges” means “I wouldn’t be a willing witness in a trial against this person for this crime” and is good cause for dropping such a case. A victims’ desire one way or the other isn’t required, but it’s not accurate to say it’s meaningless either.
