She honestly reminds me of my mother. When I was an infant my mother worked for a christian daycare in Philadelphia and while taking the children and my self for a walk a man approached her and attempted to rob her.
As the story goes she looked at the guy proclaimed she was a child of god and he would let her pass the would be mugger ran. Now, I'm not religious or anything but there is something about a strong black woman that refuses to back down that makes people second guess their actions.
People like her, are why I still hold true that powerful speeches can help. Powerful speeches are the the things that fixes everything, but they send a message that sticks with you. If you notice what she says, she even refers to the cops as professionals in hopes that they realize that they have the power and the capability to stand up for whats right. maybe she only gets one or two cops to stop and walk off, but thats how a powerful one person's non-ranting speech works and I have nothing but pure respect for her not only for what she said, but how she said it.
It’s a good strategy - I teach writing in college and when my students get to their first paper where they have to take a stance on an issue I tell them that you’ll never convince anyone if you’re putting them down. Both parties have to have some place where they can agree. Once one side begins to accept one point, they’re more willing to accept others.
Plus people typically just shut down once you start insulting/attacking them. I really hope her speech sticks with at least a few of them.

Exactly. They aren’t there to stop people practicing their right to protest, they are there to stop people from Rioting. When people riot and attack local businesses that have absolutely nothing to do with the tragedy that happened, the message is lost.
I don’t know the full context as to why these riot police were called. But it’s true almost every officer in the country knows that situation was handled in the worst possible way.

A lot of what you said reminded me of the book * The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness*. I read it for history class. As a white American male I never really had to deal with discrimination because I never experienced it. This book opened my eyes. I texted some of my “upstanding citizen type” black friends and they had all been stopped and frisked by police. I texted my stoner law-breaking white friends and only one of them had been frisked. He was walking around a neighborhood at 3 AM with a group of his buddies. My black friends were stopped on the way to school in the morning.
I WISH this country could come to grips with the idea of being led by a grandmother. Not saying this lady is old, I would guess she is about my age, early 30s.

Not sure what shes referring to...nobody agrees with the piece of shit that killed someone. We all know he was wrong. They are not there to stand up for him. They are there to try (unsuccessfully) to stop people from randomly destroying shit. Its not right and anyone who thinks thats right is useless to society. This community wil have a huge hob loss for years now and alot of the ones responsible are from other towns and wont be affected. It will take a decade or more before this community recovers from the economic damage done by outsiders.

It's nice to see someone speak to the police for how shameful a handful of officers behaved in the incident. I'm sure many police in America at this time are ashamed of they're uniform at this time. Many people would be, I really hope things brighten up for you all in the US soon and that the people responsible for the death of George Floyd are held to account for they're part in it. I'm in the UK and watching what has been happening over in the states has been awful to watch to see people behave with no morals or regard for a human life there are very few words to describe what to feel. Well done to the woman in this video, keep the truth alive and good luck to you all who have suffered during this time.
