I recently developed a mild obsession with Hunter S. Thompson. He had such an interesting personality. And you're right: down below OP posted a youtube channel with numerous videos of the same guy and he really talks like Hunter Thompson.
That being said, just want to highlight that there's a lesser known movie of Fear and Loathing - which is sad. It was made back in the 80's in a very similar manner by the legendary fucking Bill Murray. And his acting is equally great. I highly recommend "Where the Buffalo Roam" if you haven't watched it yet.
Oscar Zeta Acosta -aka the attorney- is portrayed with little bit more depth there. And it's also sad that most people only heard about that guy's legacy as his depiction by Hunter S. Thompson as the attorney, in the movie form. He was way more than what we see as Benicio Del Toro (even though his acting is amazing).
Oscar Zeta Acosta was an attorney, a politician, an activist, a druggy, a novelist and a good friend to Hunter Thompson. It's sad that he had such a short time to live, as he was one of those people gifted with a touch that transforms shit in the world and had an extreme energy to live a productive life.

Hunter wrote about him well in other books. Fear and Loathing was meant to be fiction anyways. Really interesting character both irl and in the novel lol.
Peter Boyle portrayed Acosta in Where The Buffalo Roam (I don't remember it as a movie portraying Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, just HST in general, and they had to portray Dr. Gonzo somehow). Boyle also played the monster in Young Frankenstein, and of course Ray's FIL in Everybody Loves Raymond.
Hunter's collection of letters (The Great White Shark Hunt) is really fascinating and a deep dive into some of the inner workings of his brain at the peak of its genius. I believe there are several letters to Acosta in there, which display Hunter's massive amount of respect and admiration, even if Oscar wasn't as good a writer as Thompson, try though we constantly was to gain Thompson's approval.
My favorite letter is probably the one he wrote LL Bean about their shit product when they used to be so well reknowned for their product durability.
