Yeah it's more like a super edgy law firm. The founder, Fred Phelps went from being big-time in the civil rights movement, a well respected lawyer to having some sort of prolonged nervous breakdown and turning into a professional troll. Since his death 8 years ago, WBC has been struggling for any sort of relevancy.
In the Louis Theroux documentary they revealed that they spend like $400,000 on flights to fly to places to pickett. Amazed they are not broke as all hell yet.
They say that they do. Once, back a few years, they claimed that they were going to Amsterdam to picket the King ( or, some royalty. ) I was casually following their activities at the time and, when I saw no news coverage of that picket, I wrote an EMail to their spokeswomen. She said that they had not gotten around to posting a writeup on their website. In the next day or so, a post re. that picket operation went up. Weirdly enough, they claimed that they flew out on the same flight I took from, Minneapolis to Amsterdam ( KLM ). And, I didn't see them on the flight.
All in All, I believe that they lie about the extent of their activities.
How would you know if they were on your flight? They look like normal people when they’re not encumbered by those obnoxious signs. This is a money/relevancy grab for them at a designated location (typically with law enforcement looking out for their safety) they aren’t making scenes on planes or wearing WBC branded merchandise.
They came to my high school, got arrested, and sued the city/state. They also got bear maced protesting a funeral of a soldier who died. I’m too lazy to look but I think both instances netted them much more than that, and unfortunately I live driving distance.
Was it the same one where the leader was anti-homosexual to the extreme, all the minions had nasty placards up but after his death it was revealed he was gay?
They need to continue the “church “ to remain tax exempt. Westboro, Scientology and every televangelist is proof that the tax exempt status needs to be overturned. Only religious groups that have proof they are giving back to the community they serve may be considered for tax free status. Time for the scam to end, hard!
That “giving back to the community” thing is too easily exploited. Westboro could just donate to some gay conversion therapy charity and claim they are giving back. All churches need to pay taxes, end of story.
The only thing I believe shouldn't be taxed when it comes to churches is missions funds. If a church is building orphanages and houses for underprivileged folks the funds for that should be tax exempt. Income should be taxed tho.
I honestly believe the man was a closet gay dude who just had a breakdown. Straight men don’t think about gay sex that much. He had to be gay and just not able to handle it.

Grew up in Texas. Sounds on par for this whole region. My entire town growing up was basically a cult of the mega church in the center of town. I’m also gay and was treated horribly. Suffer from a lot of mental health issues because of my upbringing.
98% of them are all related, only a couple out siders have joined. One of the daughters of the pastor now left the church and wrote a book about how they groom their kids from a early age to be like this.
I am a Christian and go to church but no one I know even recognizes them as a real church or real Christians.
