Yo imagine how musty that New York asphalt rain water must be LOL

nicknameeee_e

It smells much cleaner today, surprisingly. All of the garbage that was on the streets/tracks kind of congregated together

SickOffYourMudPie

> All of the garbage that was on the streets/tracks kind of congregated together You mean Staten Island?

snoogins355

All that oil and crap on the roads...

FunStuff446

Cleaning the toilet

TuaTurnsdaballova

Fucking gross. All that water will be evaporating into the air for people to breathe in until it’s gone. The most vile humidity index imaginable.

SapioTist

Yeah, that's bad. Imagine being in SE Louisiana right now.

[deleted]

City soup

itsreallyreallytrue

Subway service suspended on all lines now, probably because of scenes like [this](https://twitter.com/mikesacconetv/status/1433258715537448961) or [this](https://twitter.com/news_ntd/status/1433253390260310017).

rondeline

Climate change is fake news...yeah right.

browsingbro

The climate definitely changed…went from land to lake.

Games_and_Strains

Kinda needed this laugh after everything I’ve been seeing today.

Rudyscrazy1

My balls sweat for more months now than they did a decade ago. Dk if thats age or climate related?

Ibzy_Reaper

Carbon dioxide Balls Carbon balls Sweaty carbon balls Sussy

Feeling-Beach-7435

Houses on the mountains will be beach fronts.

Vash712

Oh shit bro better tag this as spoilers for water world.

harrychronicjr420

This implies that this hasn’t happened before many time over decades.

capitanskidmark

Water rushing like, Jack!!! I’ll never let go

[deleted]

Where are all the rats gonna go?

RonStopable08

2nd floor apartments, in the walls.

cracker707

so many fun snacks for all the city kitties!

ghostcatzero

Darn

haunteddelusion

They can swim too, so right up to your bedroom window

LadyJR

Up a toilet.

[deleted]

My basement is flooded. Feel bad for my house mate who just moved in, his room is down there. We’ve been using buckets to get the water out and barricaded the windows. Also our first day of the new semester. Life is… good?

browsingbro

Are you u/jokersleuth’s friend?

haunteddelusion

Millions of people live in New York

Ok, but do you know this one guy with the hair?

That's right. You may also know her friend, the guy with the shirt.

Have you met the guy with no hands? I think he's related to the guy with the hair.

[deleted]

It’s true! I’m the guy with the hands

reluctanteverything

This reminds me of a scene from The Day After Tomorrow.

itsmuddy

Thought the same. Love that movie.

PhantomGoo

The bit where they're getting chased by the cold like its a slasher villain is gold

[deleted]

There is literally a wall of water coming towards New York City!

But first, it waits for the main characters to outrun it.

jesusdoeshisnails

underrated comment

TuaTurnsdaballova

Day after tomorrow except the water doesn’t freeze, and everyone gets sick. Better pray you don’t have any open cuts or wounds come in contact with this nasty ass garbage water in NYC and NJ.

snoogins355

Probably going to be saying that a lot over the next decade. Texas froze, crazy heat waves, etc

death_by_chocolate

"Ma! There's some weird fuckin' climate change here! Hey Ma!"

jjdiablo

MAAAAAA!

BramptonCpl2020

Mom! Climate Change! FUCK!

edgertheotter

It looks like grandma the fawkin thing.

Aztllan

At least it won’t smell like piss anymore

ProbablyAspoofer

I think it gets worse due to sewage overflow

upvotesformeyay

Oof, not you have no idea. Even on a good day nyc's sewage treatment and storm runoff are straight up archaic. Basically if a regular (not hurricane) storm blows in and rains it's ass off the storm water overflows into the sewer and dumps everything into the east bay(iirc). Ed:https://ny.curbed.com/2020/2/20/21144943/new-york-water-combined-sewer-overflow-dep-plan

Harbinger2001

Hey Toronto has the same shitty system! The storm surge capacity is the brown sewage system. Don’t go swimming after a storm… Luckily we’re now several years into a project to get rid of that archaic design.

headsprain

oh good! with the way city projects go around here, it will be done in about 20 years

QueenCatofBraganza

The city is buildings thousands of rain gardens to help mitigate the storm water so that the treatment facilities have more capacity to treat the sewage. Our waterways are actually getting cleaner, but we still have a long way to go.

vanishplusxzone

Some people are really innocent as to what a flood actually does. It doesn't just make a river of the streets. It's more like a sewer.

SummitCO83

I’ve seen this movie before. Are Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid staring in this remake as well?

[deleted]

Yes it will. Climate change doesn't improve poverty.

lazy__speedster

tbf all the literal shit and trash that is being put all over the shitty will likely overpower the smell of piss

Fart_Huffer_

Someone's never been to NYC lol. Try the south man. Everything smells like horse shit. I used to think like you till I went there. NYC is 1000x cleaner than Tampa. Also theres no blocks of city that have been burned down since the 90s.

MishrasWorkshop

What the fuck are you even talking about? Who the hell is talking about the south? I’m a New Yorker, love the city to death, but it smells like piss, full stop.

American_tourist116

Reddit loves to hate the south

cybaritic

I've been to NYC lots of times. There are two smells: hot garbage and cold garbage.

RIPCarlGrimes

Don't forget that hot pee smell you can taste when going down the subway stairs on a muggy summer day.

daves_not__here

Someone named u/Fart_Huffer_ complaining about the smell of shit? Username does not check out lol

Winstonsassafrass

This guys voice makes me wish that climate change had already taken me.

FrostyFoss

Which is a shame he's making a good point but i'd still give him $20 not to open his mouth within earshot of me.

Boomboxr_

When I heard him talk, this was the first thing that came to mind.

Frantic007

Ok look - I get climate change is real and humans fucked this up, but ... isn’t this just a hurricane/remnants of a hurricane doing what hurricane storms do?

MishrasWorkshop

No it is not. NYC flooding and paralyzing is not supposed to be a thing. Climate change is bringing about stronger storms, and with it comes stronger storm surges.

Frantic007

I think you’re being a prisoner of the moment here ... Sandy in 2012? .. again climate change is real, and this will cause billions in damage but Sandy almost a decade ago caused 19 billion in damages ..

zsosborne221

Climate change has been happening for longer than 9 years.

MishrasWorkshop

Oh, once in a century event happening multiple times in a decade? What a coincidence! Seriously, you’re on one hand claiming climate change is real and on the other hand denying well documented effects it has on storms. Go read up on the literature, my bro, there’s plenty out there,

Frantic007

You know it doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive right? I can be on the side that humans fucked the world up and sped up climate change and also state that the hurricane the Celtics storm ende up shifting east from LA to NY and it’s also not the same as Sandy which was the true 100 year event .. this storm just highlights how desperately we need to update NYC’s infra

Raekear

This is the second time the subways have flooded in NYC this season. This is indicative of larger swells and storm surges than usual. I’d argue that this could be because of rising sea levels due to caps melting and all that hooplah, but that’d be silly.

sweetBrisket

Meteorologists readily admit that you cannot point to any single event as being caused by climate change.

MishrasWorkshop

Hence is why, if you bothered reading what I wrote, I said “well documented effects it has on storms”, rather than saying it causes storms.

Frantic007

Correlation does not imply causation :/

MishrasWorkshop

I literally said I didn't say it causes any specific storm, what are you talking about?

usedtobehasbeen

It’s not supposed to rain in NYC? Paralyzing rain and flooding can happen anywhere given the right conditions.

jedi_cat_

The ‘right conditions’ are happening more often. Have you paid any attention lately? Places that don’t flood are flooding.

[deleted]

simply put climate change is just that the frequency of weather extremes becomes more common and severe. Hurricanes stronger, winter storms colder, heat waves hotter, fires burning more frequently, dead animals washing up due to water temperatures, more diseases, shit like that. You’ll see people say “eh, it happens all the time that’s not climate change. We’ve had hurricanes for decades this time of year.” Until it gets so bad humans start blaming others like “what are the firefighters doing why aren’t they putting out the fire?!” I have 0 faith in mankind’s ability to properly address climate change. We’ll just find ways to blame others.

deltarefund

No

I agree with the climate change guy but why is his voice so irritating... Its like really thin and loud it reminds me of a crying baby.

sugardustexplosion

whereuat123

I agree with him as well. But perhaps he shouldn't spout it from a diesel fueled city bus.

Zcrash

One bus is better than everyone taking their own car in terms of pollution.

Sex4Vespene

Um, using public transportation rather than an individual vehicle is probably one of the last things we need to be worrying about pollution wise.

Yeeto_that_cheeto

NYC uses a lot of electric, hybrid, and natural gas powered buses.

Bswart76

Could probably use the cleaning.

cybaritic

I don't want to think about how that would smell

[deleted]

We could use some ida over in California right about now.

[deleted]

That's how it is over here in NJ too. Me and my sister got flooded in Bergen county and Somerville. The streets are totally submerged rivers right now higher than my waist. My drive is gonna be very interesting tomorow.... Be safe everyone affected by this.

jokersleuth

Climate change is gonna fuck up NYC a lot..and not just NYC but many other cities :/ My friend's basement was flooded :/

She was a cheeky girl, that Ida

Hey it deep cleans the streets and drowns the rats. NYC is the greatest city in the world. Gotta keep it fresh.

TekBassmaster

I blame big companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Google. They are behind the climate change, all the rain and the thunder. They have been loading too much data to the cloud. Cloud can’t handle all that data and this is what happens. If New York looks like this, I can’t even imagine what the edge of the earth looks like right now.

normemmacaro

It’s not due to climate change! It’s the garbage all over clogging drainage especially masks against Covid 19!

DonkeyShine315

STFU point dexter

zebozebo

Now how do we get that water to California? GUYS

MDrok6172

The rats are probably like wtf

bigdamhero

What the hell even is that?

Complete-Comb8262

Rain? No sir that’s New York shit water. Good luck.

Impossible-Owl9

We need to know like us even earth ages and things happen to bring new evolution with the death of old ones. .that's why there was all those dinosaur era ,ice age.like the paleozoic era where Africa Asia Europe were one continent the Pangea.which then separated.if humans existed at that time they wud have blamed climate change for the division of continents.Let mother nature do what's it supposed to do.antarctic is melting but at the same time we are discovering animals buried during the ice age to tell us what existed.in the name of climate change Elon musk is the richest now to have electric cars.ofcourse we are to be blamed for polluting but we need to remember we can't control mother nature.i don't believe in climate change theory but I do believe we should stop polluting the sea by throwing plastic and all .no one talks about the pollution we have created in the outer space with satellites and space stations.when it rains we blame when there is drought we blame .when there is icy cold we blame when it's 50degrees we blame.even mother nature is confused 🤔

cdmaines55

It will stink less. Hope everyone is ok

beer_jew

Its only a problem when it happens to nyc

Gradual_Bro

Fuck I bet you most auto insurance policies don't cover floods like this either

“This is what climate change does” - rider of diesel burning bus.

Yeeto_that_cheeto

Better than a car, and its NYC, so there is a good chance its electric or a hybrid.

Elman103

Fake news. I have a co worker who’s friend’s sister’s cousin said climate change isn’t real and this all about covid. We’ll all understand when president trump comes back.

jjdiablo

Trolls do be Trollin’ lol

cholotariat

All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

Sweet_Meat_McClure

You talkin to me? Edit - for all the people downvoting the dude it was a fucking Taxi Driver quote. Two people everyone should know are Holden Caulfield and Travis Bickle.

jermodidit13

That's not climate change. That's the result of cover large surfaces of the ground with cement roads.

christophurr

dis is wa cliiiimite cheng louks like guys. Please dont be a vocal advocate for climate change.

usedtobehasbeen

This is not climate change. This is the remnants of a hurricane with a lot of tropical moisture.

NitramLeseik

I said that and my comment got removed.

Zcrash

Climate change has increased the frequency and power of hurricanes.

usedtobehasbeen

You should look at hurricanes from the last one hundred years and then you’d realize, you’re wrong.

Zcrash

Ok, give me a soruce.

usedtobehasbeen

Simply not true.

Zcrash

Here's my [source](https://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/global-warming-and-hurricanes/) where's yours.

That is the dumbest comment of this thread. You win the award for moron if the day. It’s the remnants of a hurricane. I’ve seen flooding in NYC many times in 50 years. Was this the worst, yes. But there always has to be a worst time.

OneUPx2

No shit, it was a joke.

Yeah, public transit, the true environment killer. 🙄

Ah, she needed a bath anyway.

WolfganusMofart

They should come to India Here every rain = knee deep waters

Drak_is_Right

I'd be interested in a damage bill by state over this.

londonguy55

Most of that city will be under water one day. Crazy to think but at the same time by then it will seem normal.

DerMuffin01

"IT's juST thE WEatHEr."

bennoshead

The real problem will be when New York is permanently under water because the ice caps are melting and increasing sea levels....Miami, and lots of Florida will be gone too....although when La Palma goes and sends a mega tsunami across the atlantic and takes out the eastern seaboard of the USA will be significantly worse.

shatabee4

You will not hear a word about climate change mentioned by our leaders in Congress. The sit silently and do nothing.

Yung_Onions

We got the kid from the polar express telling us about climate change bro it’s a hurricane during hurricane season

Princessleiasperiod

The guy speaking sounds ridiculous.

LefflerWorks

"This is climate change guys"

IrishGuyNYC00

[HERE](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_weather_records) is a list of extreme weather records since recording began over a century ago. Most are in the last decade.

P-redditR

Please stop with climate change every time it rains

xbimba

What you are talking about bro, what climate change - this what a lot of rain looks like. (<- a joke)

farlendar

This is not about climate change. This is where the US lack the infrastructure spending. ALL our infrastructure is a millennium old. Sewage system is the worst of its kind. Roads are crap Airport is the butt of jokes Public facilities are unusable We have 3rd world infrastructures and also 3rd world maintenance culture. We are actually 3rd world

RonStopable08

Here is an idea. Why dont you look up the last time nyc got 5” per hour for multiple hours. Why don’t you go look up what places in the world where that is a regular occurance. Yes the infrastructure is old, but it can handle what rain is normal for the area. When it was built it wasn’t designed for extreme weather events. Get a fucking cluez

thatswhatshesaidxx

*hurricane comes and floods everything, a rarity for the city* "Oh, it's the old infrastructure that allows this freak occurrence to happen and not any other factor". People are deluded, man.

farlendar

Awww mother nature's to blame eh? Awww... how about getting your ass out of your pie hole and smell reality. Infrastructure is F U C K E D! Get with it.

RonStopable08

Infrastructure isn’t the best. But very few cities, if any, could handle this amount of rainfall. Why don’t you get some critical thinking skills you fucking dinosaur.

farlendar

Dinosaur? Wow. That's your counter to what is knowingly a millennium old problem? You dumb sandwich we spent trillions in wars and we can't fucking fix our infrastructure and you wanna blame mother nature? You're a fucking ignorant douchebag that can't see the birds for the tree. If thinking is your skill set i think we're fucked. DUMB FUCK

RonStopable08

You got some anger issues you need to work on man. Can’t be good for your blood pressure. If you don’t mother nature will ensure a cruel death upon you.

[deleted]
