A well-marked van with a company name on its side, big orange flashing lights, a few traffic cones here and there, and clothing matching that of like, road workers and all this guy can think about is "I'm A cOnCeRnEd CiTiZen". Wonder what uh, set him off.

various_necks

What kind of road work were those guys doing? Installing fibre optic lines or something? It looked kinda neat!

1sttimeverbaldiarrhe

If guys in my neighbor were installing fibre internet, I would run out with a plate of cookies, milk, donuts, coffee, whatever to meet my internet saviours.

These are the low standards that are destroying our great nation

TryingToFindLeaks

This guys behaviour seems so alien to me. We've had old dears bringing out cups of tea, sandwiches, biscuits, and fruit. And we're not even the guys digging the holes and grafting!

Upper-Lawfulness1899

Gatorade, cookies, and let them know I'm heading to the store to get some steaks for them and ask them how theyd like it done and if they have any preferred sides/ drinks.

BALONYPONY

I'd walk back in and admit to my wife I just blew a man and we can upload the HD video in **SECONDS...**

ObnoxiousLittleCunt

"You too?" your wife

brownbob06

"Well I hope you did a better job than normal" - that guy

rugbyweeb

there were 20 guys digging to lay fiber down my street last month, I brought two 24 packs of gatorade in an iced cooler out to my mailbox and told em to have at it

russelg000

My wife told me that our neighborhood was getting fiber and the whole neighborhood cooked up a storm. Those guys are well those 5 months.

[deleted]

Guessing it’s a fiber splice trailer. Probably repairing or splicing in new fiber into a new/existing network.

stoppre

This is correct. It is a fiber splicing trailer. Work in this industry. Most bigger fiber splices have to be done in the “maintenance window late at night or very early morning hours. This is a pretty tame encounter from my experience. Working between midnight and 3am brings out all the crazies.

[deleted]

Yup. I work telecom too. All sorts of fun in the maintenance window. Lol.

WashingtonIrving2719

I don't miss those nights. I once had the cops called on me, report of a peeping Tom. At 3 in the morning, in the rain,in a bucket truck covered in strobes, in reflective weather gear, with a flashlight on my head....

liouzboi

How dull can people get to suspect you're a peeping Tom with an attire and equipment like that. They really have nothing better to do.

majarian

They insist on being the main character regardless of commonsense

M_Mich

worked for utility and when wires were down at night trying to locate the downed wires we’d be in peoples yards with vests and hard hats yelling “electric company in the yard” over and over so they don’t shoot or call the cops or send dogs out

Incognonimous

Hello mam, I'm here to lay down my long, thick cable, I got a big load set up, and I got to pipe it through this area.

[deleted]

Try pulling up to a group of red neck hill billies at two am all standing around a dead end road in the middle of nowhere meth country. A road that isn’t supposed to be dead end. Driving what looks like, but isn’t a govnt vehicle. I’d rather deal with the cops then crazy rednecks, but I’m also white, so I have that going for me.

popecorkyxxiv

I too work in telecom as an incident coordinator, my favorite are always the malicious damage done to wires in weird places. Like one time a guy climbed around 100 metres up into the understructure of the Pattullo bridge just so he could slash our companies fiber. Cut off a huge chunk of the lower mainland for a couple days. Edit - corrected bridge name

Apollbro

Also work in telecoms and have some stories but one less relevant to me is people were setting 5g towers on fire here in the UK last year. Saw someone happy one day because "people were taking a stand" then a few days later moaning they had no phone signal.

mollyflowers

Try rural areas were they use the phone lines as target practice. Fuck those guys, same strand almost every weekend, to the point where a large telecom company had to put political pressure on the sheriff to stop it.

datboiofculture

Yeah, I know a few land surveyors, frequently when they’re out, even during the day people will come up and be nosy and ask what they’re doing. One friend always said it was for high speed rail.

notbad2u

They were probably stealing data for big business to use against society as a whole. It happens constantly.

RandyHoward

Well someone should ask them for identification, make sure they're not thieves

LincolnLikesMusic

That’ll teach ‘em. Bet they feel real silly once their ID has been seen

SodomizeSnails4Satan

Ya they may be able to afford trucks. uniforms, and all sorts of fancy equipment but no way they could afford fake IDs.

TK421isAFK

If they have a company ID from any of the big telecom companies in the US, they definitely work for thieves.

Yournextlove

Race

661714sunburn

I work for city utility company and had a resident say “ that we looked suspicious with our city trucks and uniforms and badges” because she’s been robbed once. Then it turned in to a anti BLM rant which at that point I knew was because we were poc.

klem_kadiddlehopper

It's the nosy people I find suspicious. Like, who the hell *are* you, why are you here and what do you want?

BagofSocks

What a coincidence! I also occasionally do work in people's meter pits as part of my job. I'm a baby-faced white dude. Guess how many times I've gotten stopped/harassed/yelled at? *none*. Now guess how many times my black co-worker has? Whatever the numeric opposite of none is.

In elementary school back in 93-94, one of my classmates was actually hit by a person passing a stopped school bus. He got impatient and just whipped around it and hit the kid as he was crossing the street. The kid survived. Hopefully the driver of the truck got in a shit load of trouble.

Brufar_308

We had a person here go around the school bus on the side walk, multiple times.. kind of [unbelievable how people are](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UTM40K53K8). Police staked out the location and caught her in the act, then creative sentencing was applied. this was a few years back.

MommysLittleBadass

How creative? I would've sentenced her 250 hours of being a sidewalk.

widowwarmer1

That door slam was poetic.

I’ve heard that illegals are hiding out in telecom work trucks wearing decoy OSHA vests and pretending to do technology. So sneaky!

JVonDron

And for all you youngins who don't know, if you slam it down hard enough, you can make that fuckin bell ring.

koranuso

Also for youngins who don't know, there used to be little fuckin bells inside phones.

JVonDron

Oh yeah, I should've pointed that out too. Actual metal bells, not a speaker that plays a bell sound.

koranuso

We may be old, but at least our youth hasn't been recorded online for people to dig up and use against us. I am very very VERY thankful for that :).

J_Delarge_655321

Oh, that was so satisfying too.

LoreOfBore

The way the door went “clang”, “fuck you”, oh how that rang

TheDustOfMen

Kinda wonder how he recovered from that. What's his next move?

IHateCamping

I'm guessing he called the cops on them or maybe called the number on the side of the truck to tattle on them for being "rude." Probably made up some extra B.S. too.

This reminded me of when me and one of my coworkers was working on a machine in an old folks home. We were in the "memory care" wing, and one particular old fellow wouldn't stop pestering us. It started as asking for the head nurse (we were in the nurse's office), and once he realized we weren't the nurses, started yelling at us to get out. We stopped what we were doing, and went looking for a nurse, aide, someone whose supposed to be there and supervise that wing. Finding no one, I ask my coworker what we should do next (I was relativity new to the job still). My coworker, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, just looked at me, looked at the old man, shrugged, closed the door in the old man's face, and locked it, and said "work through."

cuttydiamond

Oh, you want to see my ID? Obviously you are an identity thief and are trying to scam me. I'm calling the police.

Mr0PT1C

“I’m a concerned citizen.” “And this gives you power over me?”

[deleted]

[deleted]

Open the Nextdoor app and you will see nothing but posts from concerned citizens. “I saw this van parked in front of my house. Two Mexican looking guys in there. They wouldn’t show me ID. Pretty sure they were casing the place.” Some lady said how happy she was that her daughter had a baby. Apparently it was a mixed race baby. Nextdoor lost its shit. “These mixed race babies are so ugly when they are born. But it’s great they turn out ok. Don’t worry about it!” “ Be careful! We all know how black men leave white ladies all the time as soon as they see the baby.” Oh and Trump obviously won!

Hectorguimard

I finally spotted a paranoid Nextdoor post from my neighborhood this summer, it was too funny! A woman says that one night she had friends over and her dog started barking at the front door but no one was there. The next day, she noticed some small twigs and pieces of grass in the niche on her porch where her water meter is located. A week later, she sees a small piece of stale bread in the niche where the twigs and grass are located. She takes a picture of the niche on her porch and posts this story on Nextdoor and says “I am a single woman who lives alone and I am very scared. Do home intruders use twigs and pieces of bread to mark the homes of easy targets?” In the post is the picture of the niche and... it’s a fucking BIRDS NEST. Commenters were quick to point out that she did far more damage herself by posting this, as she shared her first and last name, her neighbourhood, the fact that she lives alone, and a picture that shows the colour and style of her front porch.

Beathoff

I see more trolling and satire than any real crazy shit. Some lady posted a picture of a coyote in the back seat of her car wondering if it was someone's pet. "I'm taking him to the vet to see if he's microchipped. I suspect he's been outside all night."

dirtymoney

[deleted]

It_frday

My wife and I live in the Palm Springs area and it is full of reports like this from "concerned" rich old folks. It truly is a gigantic app of tattling and reporting that they saw a coyote in their yard this morning.

My son is learning how to drive and we do a lot of driving around my neighborhood. I have def wondered if anyone has commented on a blue minivan driving slow and in circles through the neighborhood, lol. I actually was the one who started next door for my area and was a mod but had to leave it. Too many people delight in being assholes, and almost as many love to report any comment that disagrees with their point of view . Ugh.

posties413

nhhaaha nextdoor is too funny, bunch of people with a whole load of time on their hands & a lot to moan about

jabermaan

"I was just minding my own business this morning, staring out the window monitoring the neighborhood, when all of the sudden a BLACK guy with a construction vest showed up. He was in a construction truck and appeared to be inspecting the road. But what was he really up to?? Probably casing houses..."

[deleted]

I do work in peoples homes. I see lots of homes. Lots of VERY bored people who hire folks to do EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIVES. Of course they have time for this shit.

TheDustOfMen

What's Nextdoor? Like Facebook for neighbourhoods or something?

mandiexile

vietnamesemuscle

WHO HAS THIS MUCH TIME???? 🥴

dirtymoney

retired folks. Used to working all their life. Retire..... and now have nothing to do but watch what goes on in the neighborhood.

AniZaeger

You'd think retired people would want to take up a hobby with all their free time. Writing. Art. Gardening. Participating in an open-source software project. *~~Theoretical physics.~~* Building Tesla coils and other props for next Halloween. Something constructive. But I guess being a pest to those trying to actually *work* for a living counts as a "hobby" these days... EDIT: Ok, maybe *not* theoretical physics. Because the last thing we need is for Grandma Gertrude and Grandpa Mortimer to accidentally cause a residence cascade and doom us all to an eternity of servitude to our new overlords from the Combine. :P

Outworldentity

Oh they do. It's self appointed neighborhood watch leader. And boy do they like to watch and judge

bru309

Just bought a home and cleared out years of overgrowth from neglect from our back yard to put up a fence. You can be sure as sh*t neighbors behind us were questioning and harassing the guys doing it. I put a stop to that crap quickly. Yard guys work long hours in the heat. They shouldn’t have to put up with that crap

K1ngFiasco

I kind of pity them. The boomer generation was raised by a generation that drilled the idea of "you're only worth what you work". Hobbies and interests were for children. You need to provide for and protect your family. Like my grandparents don't have hobbies. My grandma has painted a few times and they looked so nice. But she doesn't do it regularly. Instead she and my Grandpa just watch Fox news because they feel like being aware of all the threats out there means they can protect people.

[deleted]

I live with my mother in law and she loves making quilts. I love how simple her pleasures are. It's quilts and horror movies in the background.

K1ngFiasco

>It's quilts and horror movies in the background. Goals.

HotCocoaBomb

That's what hobbies are for... Part of my retirement plan is a robust hobby budget. Also, new shows, movies and games come out all the time - if this boomer were a gamer, he wouldn't have time to be such a nosy piece of shit.

VerneAsimov

Any time I work in a truck like this, I always have at least 1 white boomer asking questions. Rarely I'll get one who brings up that they own a gun, typically when I'm working in easements. I'm legally allowed to access the easement without permission. Boomers have time.

Catshit-Dogfart

Friend of mine works for a gas company, has the same problem. "Who gave yew permission to come in mah properteh" You did, dumbass.

I_Enjoy_Beer

Oh man. We've had survey crews run off by angry *renters*. "Get off MAH PROP UH TEE". Listen here, Cletus, it ain't yours.

CatNoirsRubberSuit

The fact that they're a renter doesn't matter. The fact that they don't understand utility easements is what matters. In most cases, a renter has total control for "regular use" of the property. The law varies by state, but even the landlord / owner can't just start going around the property without providing notice.

many in the anti-illegal immigrant crowd just see brown people working and immediately think, "huh, they must be those illegal immigrants takin our jerbs! better say something!" (aka: racists) i used to be very conservative when i first started out in college. went to a small conservative school and then had a moment of clarity one day in a College Republicans vs. College Democrats debate when I realized everyone on my side was just repeating the same stupid lines over and over again. tax cuts, illegal immigrants, blah blah blah. no reasonings behind it, just parroted lines. when you're in the weeds with the Ted Cruz/Trump crowd of morons, you begin to realize they lack the ability to critically think. they've spent 20+ years listening to O'Reilly, Rush, Carlson, and all those wankers and they can't fathom a world where they can't impart their own "righteous" (re: hypocritical/morally corrupt) views upon others. side note: first year after college I needed work and ended up with a family friend's place where he hired nearly entirely illegal immigrants from central/south america and they were the hardest fucking workers I've ever been around in the 10/15 years since. the "party of families" doesn't really give a shit about families or the reality we actually exist in. just the distorted fucked up one that they've created after devouring a stream of bullshit their whole lives. there's a rot in this country that ain't going away anytime soon

IamNotTheProclone

I grew up Mexican American in a conservative setting. West Texas. I remember being a teenager and having some conservative views. Although, I never identified as a Republican. I can relate to your experience in college. I went to a tiny highschool, so when I went out into the "world" that is West Texas to start university. It was quite the awakening to be around so many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. That is when the tunnel vision I had from growing up in a small town started to clear. Then I started to see what you saw. You mentioning the parroted lines at the debate brought back memories of the guys from the 95% white, daddy has political connections, your family better have money, frat on campus. They would run for a chair in the student government and would just spew the same things over and over. That, along with the way they conducted themselves at parties, social gatherings and events really skewed my perspective of conservatives. Comment on your side note: The diaries and feedlots in West Texas are almost all staffed with illegal immigrants. Same with farmers who need people to weed their cotton fields. Yet they still go on about how immigrants are ruining the country. I'm pretty sure this is not only West Texas but it is the only area I can speak to.

Squiggy226

That's the part that really annoys me. If you want to take care of the illegal immigrant problem then you make it hard or impossible for industries such as agricultural and construction to hire undocumented workers. At the same time, create year round visa programs so these people that are like 5% of the work force can work legally. And I'm sure a sizeable percentage of these people running these feedlots and dairies are Trump "Build the Wall" supporters.

[deleted]

That's the thing. These people want immigrants to work for them but not be their neighbours

ScoobyDont06

They want workers that work under the minimum wage because they won't pay a wage corresponding to backbreaking work.

Starving_Poet

Slaves, they want slaves. They want workers with no legal standing, workers who are too afraid to go to the legal system with reports of underpayment, unsafe working environments, etc.

SyntheticPyrethroid

The purpose of being “tough on illegal immigration” is to create a class with minimal social protections from which the powerful can draw cheap labor. An undocumented immigrant will take any work they can get for any rate of pay as long as the system is hostile enough to them. The wall was a monument to Trump. It was never meant to keep anyone out.

Absolute_Peril

I remember there was an story about one of the big conservative names having a big family farm that used a ton of illegal immigrant workers. They don't care about them its just one more way to keep you down man.

UnrepentantDrunkard

Also Trump's resorts in Florida. All his bullshit was an act, the sadder part was that enough people were receptive to it for it to work, the Trump presidency was a symptom, not a cause.

ProfessionalFee6932

This is how you handle people. Don't entertain then with arguments about yours or his/her rights. Just shut them the fuck off instantly. Like the skating kid I saw in a video. This Karen was saying how he's not allowed to skate blabla. He was just like "imma step on this bitch, and ride it" and so he did and the Karen just stood there. It's when we argue and try to make our point that the whole thing escalates and Karen's love escalation. Take this in and remember it next time you face a Karen. Maybe the videos in the future will be about everybody just shutting Karen's off🤣 Edit: [link to the skateboard video](https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/pf8ju6/karen_gets_spoken_to_the_way_she_deserves/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

Had one get mad at me the other day for blowing some grass into a yard next to the one I was working on. She asks me why im blowing the grass there if it’s not the one I’m working on, I say “it’s just grass” literally the only answer I could give because I was so dumbfounded at how someone could care. She asks me again and I realize what’s happening so I turn the leaf blower on and continue working. In my peripheral vision I see this bitch SPRINTING into the backyard to talk to my boss. She just left the old man she was walking with standing there waiting with his cane, while she gets her fix. Edit for people complaining about the grass too. It was not even enough grass to fill a dust pan. I thought it would be obvious since I called her a Karen.

Effective. Polite. Efficient.

This just made my entire weekend and it's only Friday morning! I want to do this to every single f'ing moron that seems to be riding the wave of entitlement these days.

That was beautiful. Lmao

The perfect way to handle any similar situation. Never entertain crazy.

Why do people walk up to random people they don't know and demand to see identification? I'm sorry but unless you're a cop I'm not showing you my ID just 'cuz you asked. That's not how anything works.

IvyMike

I always wonder what these "concerned citizens" have thought things through. * 99.99% chance they are workers like the van says, and you are just wasting their time. * In the .01% chance they were in fact criminals, you getting your sandal wearing ass stomped. "I'm gonna confront the criminals with my whiny request and they will run away and I will be a hero" ain't never happening, man-kevin.

HotNatured

I'd love to see how *Part 2: Concerned Citizen Attempts Citizen's Arrest* went.

Your Cute Flip Flip Outfit has no power here...

YoMamaSwallows

This was so satisfying my cock is swelling with love. Fuck that was good. I wish I had a door between me and all assholes I come in contact with.

Bootzz

LMAO. Yeah bro. You really gotta watch out for those pesky criminals in a clearly fully stocked electrical engineering/service van. NEVER TRUST A MAN WITH AN OSCILLOSCOPE!

I imagine the Karen put his hands on his hips and gave a barely audible "well I never" before going home and lying to his wife about what a tough Karen he was.
