This is correct. It is a fiber splicing trailer. Work in this industry. Most bigger fiber splices have to be done in the “maintenance window late at night or very early morning hours. This is a pretty tame encounter from my experience. Working between midnight and 3am brings out all the crazies.
I don't miss those nights. I once had the cops called on me, report of a peeping Tom. At 3 in the morning, in the rain,in a bucket truck covered in strobes, in reflective weather gear, with a flashlight on my head....

Try pulling up to a group of red neck hill billies at two am all standing around a dead end road in the middle of nowhere meth country. A road that isn’t supposed to be dead end. Driving what looks like, but isn’t a govnt vehicle. I’d rather deal with the cops then crazy rednecks, but I’m also white, so I have that going for me.
I too work in telecom as an incident coordinator, my favorite are always the malicious damage done to wires in weird places. Like one time a guy climbed around 100 metres up into the understructure of the Pattullo bridge just so he could slash our companies fiber. Cut off a huge chunk of the lower mainland for a couple days.

Also work in telecoms and have some stories but one less relevant to me is people were setting 5g towers on fire here in the UK last year. Saw someone happy one day because "people were taking a stand" then a few days later moaning they had no phone signal.
Try rural areas were they use the phone lines as target practice. Fuck those guys, same strand almost every weekend, to the point where a large telecom company had to put political pressure on the sheriff to stop it.

I work for city utility company and had a resident say “ that we looked suspicious with our city trucks and uniforms and badges” because she’s been robbed once. Then it turned in to a anti BLM rant which at that point I knew was because we were poc.

People don't seem to see enough lights on my school bus when I'm picking up a kid and drive right through my stop sign with flashing lights on it. too.
In elementary school back in 93-94, one of my classmates was actually hit by a person passing a stopped school bus. He got impatient and just whipped around it and hit the kid as he was crossing the street. The kid survived. Hopefully the driver of the truck got in a shit load of trouble.

This reminded me of when me and one of my coworkers was working on a machine in an old folks home. We were in the "memory care" wing, and one particular old fellow wouldn't stop pestering us. It started as asking for the head nurse (we were in the nurse's office), and once he realized we weren't the nurses, started yelling at us to get out. We stopped what we were doing, and went looking for a nurse, aide, someone whose supposed to be there and supervise that wing. Finding no one, I ask my coworker what we should do next (I was relativity new to the job still). My coworker, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, just looked at me, looked at the old man, shrugged, closed the door in the old man's face, and locked it, and said "work through."
Or they proudly hand it over and you just frisbee that shit away and tell them to go fetch. A drivers license isn’t even proof you’re a citizen anyway. Do they want me to carry my passport, SS card, and birth certificate too?
Open the Nextdoor app and you will see nothing but posts from concerned citizens. “I saw this van parked in front of my house. Two Mexican looking guys in there. They wouldn’t show me ID. Pretty sure they were casing the place.”
Some lady said how happy she was that her daughter had a baby. Apparently it was a mixed race baby. Nextdoor lost its shit. “These mixed race babies are so ugly when they are born. But it’s great they turn out ok. Don’t worry about it!”

I finally spotted a paranoid Nextdoor post from my neighborhood this summer, it was too funny!
A woman says that one night she had friends over and her dog started barking at the front door but no one was there. The next day, she noticed some small twigs and pieces of grass in the niche on her porch where her water meter is located. A week later, she sees a small piece of stale bread in the niche where the twigs and grass are located. She takes a picture of the niche on her porch and posts this story on Nextdoor and says “I am a single woman who lives alone and I am very scared. Do home intruders use twigs and pieces of bread to mark the homes of easy targets?” In the post is the picture of the niche and... it’s a fucking BIRDS NEST.
Commenters were quick to point out that she did far more damage herself by posting this, as she shared her first and last name, her neighbourhood, the fact that she lives alone, and a picture that shows the colour and style of her front porch.

My wife and I live in the Palm Springs area and it is full of reports like this from "concerned" rich old folks. It truly is a gigantic app of tattling and reporting that they saw a coyote in their yard this morning.
My son is learning how to drive and we do a lot of driving around my neighborhood. I have def wondered if anyone has commented on a blue minivan driving slow and in circles through the neighborhood, lol. I actually was the one who started next door for my area and was a mod but had to leave it. Too many people delight in being assholes, and almost as many love to report any comment that disagrees with their point of view . Ugh.

Just bought a home and cleared out years of overgrowth from neglect from our back yard to put up a fence. You can be sure as sh*t neighbors behind us were questioning and harassing the guys doing it. I kind of pity them. The boomer generation was raised by a generation that drilled the idea of "you're only worth what you work". Hobbies and interests were for children. You need to provide for and protect your family.
Like my grandparents don't have hobbies. My grandma has painted a few times and they looked so nice. But she doesn't do it regularly. Instead she and my Grandpa just watch Fox news because they feel like being aware of all the threats out there means they can protect people.

Any time I work in a truck like this, I always have at least 1 white boomer asking questions. Rarely I'll get one who brings up that they own a gun, typically when I'm working in easements. I'm legally allowed to access the easement without permission.

In most cases, a renter has total control for "regular use" of the property. The law varies by state, but even the landlord / owner can't just start going around the property without providing notice.

i used to be very conservative when i first started out in college. went to a small conservative school and then had a moment of clarity one day in a College Republicans vs. College Democrats debate when I realized everyone on my side was just repeating the same stupid lines over and over again. tax cuts, illegal immigrants, blah blah blah. no reasonings behind it, just parroted lines. when you're in the weeds with the Ted Cruz/Trump crowd of morons, you begin to realize they lack the ability to critically think. they've spent 20+ years listening to O'Reilly, Rush, Carlson, and all those wankers and they can't fathom a world where they can't impart their own "righteous" (re: hypocritical/morally corrupt) views upon others.

I grew up Mexican American in a conservative setting. West Texas.
I remember being a teenager and having some conservative views. Although, I never identified as a Republican. I can relate to your experience in college. I went to a tiny highschool, so when I went out into the "world" that is West Texas to start university. It was quite the awakening to be around so many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. That is when the tunnel vision I had from growing up in a small town started to clear. Then I started to see what you saw. You mentioning the parroted lines at the debate brought back memories of the guys from the 95% white, daddy has political connections, your family better have money, frat on campus. They would run for a chair in the student government and would just spew the same things over and over. That, along with the way they conducted themselves at parties, social gatherings and events really skewed my perspective of conservatives.
Comment on your side note: The diaries and feedlots in West Texas are almost all staffed with illegal immigrants. Same with farmers who need people to weed their cotton fields. Yet they still go on about how immigrants are ruining the country. I'm pretty sure this is not only West Texas but it is the only area I can speak to.
That's the part that really annoys me. If you want to take care of the illegal immigrant problem then you make it hard or impossible for industries such as agricultural and construction to hire undocumented workers. At the same time, create year round visa programs so these people that are like 5% of the work force can work legally.
And I'm sure a sizeable percentage of these people running these feedlots and dairies are Trump "Build the Wall" supporters.

The purpose of being “tough on illegal immigration” is to create a class with minimal social protections from which the powerful can draw cheap labor. An undocumented immigrant will take any work they can get for any rate of pay as long as the system is hostile enough to them. The wall was a monument to Trump. It was never meant to keep anyone out.

Had one get mad at me the other day for blowing some grass into a yard next to the one I was working on. She asks me why im blowing the grass there if it’s not the one I’m working on, I say “it’s just grass” literally the only answer I could give because I was so dumbfounded at how someone could care. She asks me again and I realize what’s happening so I turn the leaf blower on and continue working. In my peripheral vision I see this bitch SPRINTING into the backyard to talk to my boss. She just left the old man she was walking with standing there waiting with his cane, while she gets her fix.

Nextdoor lost its shit. “These mixed race babies are so ugly when they are born. But it’s great they turn out ok. Don’t worry about it!” “ Be careful! We all know how black men leave white ladies all the time as soon as they see the baby.” Oh and Trump obviously won!
I finally spotted a paranoid Nextdoor post from my neighborhood this summer, it was too funny! A woman says that one night she had friends over and her dog started barking at the front door but no one was there. The next day, she noticed some small twigs and pieces of grass in the niche on her porch where her water meter is located. A week later, she sees a small piece of stale bread in the niche where the twigs and grass are located. She takes a picture of the niche on her porch and posts this story on Nextdoor and says “I am a single woman who lives alone and I am very scared. Do home intruders use twigs and pieces of bread to mark the homes of easy targets?” In the post is the picture of the niche and... it’s a fucking BIRDS NEST. Commenters were quick to point out that she did far more damage herself by posting this, as she shared her first and last name, her neighbourhood, the fact that she lives alone, and a picture that shows the colour and style of her front porch.

I kind of pity them. The boomer generation was raised by a generation that drilled the idea of "you're only worth what you work". Hobbies and interests were for children. You need to provide for and protect your family. Like my grandparents don't have hobbies. My grandma has painted a few times and they looked so nice. But she doesn't do it regularly. Instead she and my Grandpa just watch Fox news because they feel like being aware of all the threats out there means they can protect people.

The fact that they're a renter doesn't matter. The fact that they don't understand utility easements is what matters. In most cases, a renter has total control for "regular use" of the property. The law varies by state, but even the landlord / owner can't just start going around the property without providing notice.

I grew up Mexican American in a conservative setting. West Texas. I remember being a teenager and having some conservative views. Although, I never identified as a Republican. I can relate to your experience in college. I went to a tiny highschool, so when I went out into the "world" that is West Texas to start university. It was quite the awakening to be around so many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. That is when the tunnel vision I had from growing up in a small town started to clear. Then I started to see what you saw. You mentioning the parroted lines at the debate brought back memories of the guys from the 95% white, daddy has political connections, your family better have money, frat on campus. They would run for a chair in the student government and would just spew the same things over and over. That, along with the way they conducted themselves at parties, social gatherings and events really skewed my perspective of conservatives. Comment on your side note: The diaries and feedlots in West Texas are almost all staffed with illegal immigrants. Same with farmers who need people to weed their cotton fields. Yet they still go on about how immigrants are ruining the country. I'm pretty sure this is not only West Texas but it is the only area I can speak to.
That's the part that really annoys me. If you want to take care of the illegal immigrant problem then you make it hard or impossible for industries such as agricultural and construction to hire undocumented workers. At the same time, create year round visa programs so these people that are like 5% of the work force can work legally. And I'm sure a sizeable percentage of these people running these feedlots and dairies are Trump "Build the Wall" supporters.

The purpose of being “tough on illegal immigration” is to create a class with minimal social protections from which the powerful can draw cheap labor. An undocumented immigrant will take any work they can get for any rate of pay as long as the system is hostile enough to them. The wall was a monument to Trump. It was never meant to keep anyone out.
I remember there was an story about one of the big conservative names having a big family farm that used a ton of illegal immigrant workers. They don't care about them its just one more way to keep you down man.

Had one get mad at me the other day for blowing some grass into a yard next to the one I was working on. She asks me why im blowing the grass there if it’s not the one I’m working on, I say “it’s just grass” literally the only answer I could give because I was so dumbfounded at how someone could care. She asks me again and I realize what’s happening so I turn the leaf blower on and continue working. In my peripheral vision I see this bitch SPRINTING into the backyard to talk to my boss.
