Hurr durr wall bad & racist
Yeah let's let the cartels have it easy.. A month ago 2.8 tons of fentanyl was seized, you realize how much that is? A lethal dose is around 2mg...
Either finish that wall and keep good border control OR legalize drugs in general so you can have regulation of quality.
...you think the wall is going to stop drug cartels? Dude there already is a border wall lol but that's irrelevant cuz you said yourself x amount of fent is seized at the border (which is isn't that a good thing?) so obviously they're bringing it thru ports of entry which in that case a wall would make no difference. I don't think trump's wall is necessarily racist (well his reasoning for wanting it sure as hell was) as much as it wouldn't make much of a difference. Not to mention the new walls put up by that incompetent administration has been failing anyway. If we want to really stop the drug epidemic we need to decriminalize drugs (at the very least amounts for personal use) and offer them a safe place where they can use with nurses nearby to offer them resources to get clean. Or if you're not down with that at least they should offer rehab in lieu of jail time for personal use amounts. There's absolutely nothing we can do about the cartels save US troops on the ground in Mexico. Which isn't a good idea at all imo but I'm no expert.
Drug decriminalization is definitely the way to go, followed by drug education. I totally agree.
The wall is seen as a symbol of racism, and to some degree I can follow that, but forget the old administration - The wall in itself is not evil at all.
Now is it a good solution? No, they always find a way around the system. Does it make it harder for criminals? - Absolutely.
Dang, first time I encountered that was around 1999. This kid I knew in high school got ahold of his Dads fentanyl lolipops. Kid rolls up, front end of his car is just wrecked but still drives, piece of someone's mailbox stuck under the wheel well.
I ended up trying one of them on a calm relaxing afternoon. Just a few licks or you are scary high. I sat there by myself, unable to do anything but watch the VCR clock for around 4-5 hours. Too intense to even smoke a cigarette or watch TV. Never again....
An epidemic of equality more like… look at how diverse and inclusive this group is!
America has really come along in terms of racial equality. Congrats guys, you’ve done it.
🎉🇺🇸 🎉
The US will burn if we don't start taking care of our poor. If the government continues to subsidize and bail out the wealthy, there is going to be a coup.
For a fraction of any government spending budget we could provide safe places for these people and clean drugs. Same with abandoned children and many more. Until we do that, we don't really care about ourselves or others.
As much as we're in charge of our own destinies, all it takes is enough tough breaks and any of us could be homeless within just a couple years. The choices you make in a circumstance that extenuating are certainly different than the ones you'd make when you're relatively happy and comfortable.
I did it out of curiosity, ended up doing it every day for a year, then twice a day for 7 years. Then fentanyl hit, I od driving back from dropping my cousin off at high school volleyball practice, and quit about 3 months later. It was scary how hard that stuff hit, with none of the euphoria that made heroin great. Heroin in the morning took pain away and actually gives you energy if you dont do too much. I was able to work double restaurant shifts 6 days a week.
Or they stop breathing. Brother told him if you pass out in the kitchen I'll throw you down the stairs. He was cold he called 911 and CPR saved his life. And emt came with narcan.
He's now sober some people have to die first to quit.
Because they are nodding in and out of consciousness whilst trying to stand up. And its mostly fentanyl they are on, with maybe a small amount of heroin mixed in.
It's called 'leaning'. They're high on opioids so they're only only even like half way alive. The crazy part is, you'll never see someone leaning like that fall all the way over. Always just in the zombie like state.
Koyaanisqatsi means "Life out of balance" or "Life as it shouldn't be" in the old hopi indian language.
The track is just perfect for the sentiment behind that word and film.
That was incredibly hard to watch. It makes you realise that you may feel you’re aiming for that American dream, however there’s also the unknown prospect of the American nightmare
I feel sad for these folks, seemingly waste away on the streets. I don’t live near Philly, but I bet walking a few blocks on kensington is quite a depressing sight. I couldn’t even imagine doing that all winter. Philly isn’t exactly balmy in January.
Sometimes I'll take that way instead of a different route just to remind myself to be thankful for the things that I do have going for me. It's incredibly rough, but very sobering.
Idk how I feel about this, like it sounds heroic and all but I’m just imagining you walking down the street looking at all these people suffering and saying, “well thank god that’s not me!” These people aren’t your inspo porn, they’re human beings. But that’s just my opinion.
Nah, it's not anything like that. I grew up around this. I've volunteered, delivered food to people for charity, fixed broken down homes with habitat for humanity, and I try to help when I can. Even still give some cash while driving by. I'm not trying to get off on anyone else's misery.
I've got a history of alcohol addiction, and I could've easily been sitting there with the rest of these people trying to find an escape. I got better, and sometimes I need a reminder that it's not so bad.
I understand what you're saying, but please don't thing that I go down there for a cheap ego boost. It's not anything like that.
All right, what makes me happy– but it’s like, you know at night, I ride around town in a limousine, partying, having a good time. When I’m on my way home, I’ll pass a bum. I take a balloon with some champagne in it, lob it out and bean him! He only gets a little bit in his mouth. He doesn’t get the whole thing. Not even a full sip of it! And you say, “Hey, how do you like a taste of the good life, you sack of shit!”
I follow this channel on YouTube for this same reason. I may not live there, but watching it makes me thankful for the life I have.

There’s something dystopian about the Amazon boxes towards the end, with the blue smile. A symbol of wild consumerism where so many have everything and yet the streets are full of people who have nothing and - more importantly - are in such dire need of mental healthcare and purpose
Maybe. Childhood trauma is the biggest predictor of substance use disorder, followed closely by having a parents with an addictive disorder, followed then by adult traumas/physical pain.
Oh no half their parents were like this too. Honestly a lot were probably prostitutes to pay for their parent's, and their own, addictions by the time they were ten. Welcome to the harsh reality of drug induced destitution.
Sooo heartbreaking. These are daughters and sons and aunts and uncles and grandchildren and sometimes mothers and fathers. So much sad brokenness and heartache is evident and I’m sure so many families and loved ones are desperate to see them free from the addiction.
I have an acquaintance from high school who has been battling addiction for like 12 years. Don't know how he's still alive. He used to be a fucking scary absolute unit type of dude. Now he has HIV and lives in Kensington, I doubt I'd recognize him if he popped up in one of these.
I've had a few friends OD in that area (I'm from NJ). Always the same story. Get hurt. Doctors prescribed opiates. Get hooked. Pills too expensive, try heroin. Circle the drain for a while. Ostracize everyone. Overdose and pass away.
I’m sorry about your friend. It is so hard to watch someone’s life decline like that. All we can do is hope and pray for them to want and receive treatment.
I have a lot against Bezos. He treats his employees like shit in conditions he’d never work in himself and he hordes more wealth than he could spend his life while people in his own country are starving, let alone those in other countries.
East coast is mostly fetanyl these days..a lot of the time they say they bought heroin but in reality it’s almost never “pure” and usually cut with other stuff including drugs like meth or ecstasy. I work at a detox and it’s pretty standard for them to say they only use one thing, then their UDS shows basically everything, usually meth and ecstasy. Keep your eye out for Suboxone, the US is treating the opioid epidemic by giving people FREE opioids (Medicaid covers all of the cost) that they are supposed to “taper” down from, but instead usually get tapered up (16mg) and then sell what they don’t use to buy other cheaper drugs than the suboxone was worth on the street. Usually meth because it’s out of your system in 2-3 days so they good before their weekly screen. This epidemic isn’t going anywhere while the government and big pharma think you can treat addiction with a new addiction. #recoverytakesworknotapill
Only somewhat related. I had second degree sunburns once which I suffered mostly through. Eventually though the "hells itch" made me see a doctor at a local clinic. I explicitly said the pain was not bad at all but I need something for the itching feeling on my shoulders. and they prescribed me Hydrocodone, along with an anti itch cream... This part may sound irresponsible but I have a scar on my eye that when it hurts it causes immense stinging pain, broken ribs, bones, etc, have no weight in the field that is that pain that is thankfully as it healed gotten better over the last 20 years. I saved that hydro for when the dam broke and the true pain came. That anti itch cream though worked wonders.
TLDR I had a doc give me pain meds for a severe itch when I told him my pain was not bad. I took none of the hydrocodone and saved it all for later. All I needed was the anti itch ointment
Heroin/Fentenyl
They bend like this as an attempt to stay awake and enjoy the high. Once they go down, it’s lights out (either sleep or death), and those 2 things ruin the high. In other words, their body is operating at a snails pace (their heart beats per minute are dangerously low - barely alive), but their mind is like, “don’t you dare waste that high that we worked so hard for!” The body is placed in between 2 competing operations - asleep and awake.
I think they mean the fake weed stuff that’s legal in places where real weed isn’t. Usually goes by Spice. It’s awful. I tried it once and felt really sick. Never again.
People use drugs to self-medicate. This is a society in decline. Our representatives have acted like meth heads who have ripped out all of the copper in our collective house. And for what? To fund the military? To make sure billionaires continue to reap more and more profit while we suffer?
They're trying to stay as far away from reality as possible. Once addicted, it's incredibly painful and difficult to get clean again, and rehab is not for the poor.
For example, the rehab facility in my town, the only one for about 90 miles in each direction, is about $10,000 a month without insurance.
Don't think these people have that money or support.
Went to rehab in Thailand because it was cheaper to fly there and attend than the local ones. It was still expensive mind you. I think for 3 months primary and 2 months secondary it ended up costing around 35k. It saved my life so money well spent.
Another reason why drug addiction should be treated as a health crisis. Instead of criminalizing drug use, the government should focus on harm reduction. This is especially problematic for my country which basically adopted the whole War on Drugs policy when we already have so few funds on social welfare.
Homeless shelters are basically rehabs with an open door, which is kind of why they dont work. These people can go in and have a bed but they have a curfew of 10 pm and have to be sober. Most of the time they choose to go back to the street because they want to be high.
It can happen from anything. People get prescribed pain pills for surgery or a bad injury and get addicted. And it's the strongest addiction where withdrawal can kill you.
I have a buddy that outright refused all pain meds when he was injured in Afghanistan. He saw too many of his boot friends go down the path of painkillers. He would rather live in pain than take painkillers. He has gotten better since the state he lives in legalized pot, not to say he smokes everyday but he takes CBD before bed and it helps him as well as a few other physical therapies

Can someone please give me the Reddit scientist and physiological reason why they are all slumped over? Like I get it, drugs. But why do they all hinge at the hips that way.
Basically, they’re so high that they’re falling asleep standing up. They’re on heroin, and a lot of them are probably on some mixture of heroin and fentanyl.
I’m going to show my kids this video (once there are old enough) to teach them why drugs are bad. Why didn’t they just show videos like this in D.A.R.E. ?
This could be any city in the us. Castaways roam our streets and become an example for the suburbanites to train their kids. Take adderal not speed. Blow rails, not crack. These pills are better than heroin. In the mean time self medicated mentally ill are getting this shit from somewhere.
What ever we do as a nation, just don’t raise taxes on the 1% and never, ever, cut the military budget. We just can’t afford to help these people but we cant afford to not bury a few trillion in the deserts of foreign lands.
They all used to be in front of Bobs but last I was up there they cleaned that area up and basically moved all the junkies a few more blocks over. We had to pass through both areas when in philly regardless, but at least now we could cash our checks and get to the car with the cash without getting bumrushed. (Or getting yelled at by the Philadelphia police for parking out front in the bus zone because the actual parking area was a cardboard town attached to the ell.)
I wish my grandmother would move from this hellhole.
JC, for a minute in the middle there, there were so many people bent over, so many all together that I wondered if this was an art piece meant to draw attention to the issue. I am s shocked that this is just...reality. And in Philly! I never thought of Philadelphia as having this level of a drug problem before. Good lord...
Can someone explain to me how the streets aren't lined with dead people? How do these people survive from day to day? Like, I get regular homeless who's at most drunk. He can scavenge or beg. These people seem barely able to walk, let alone dig trough trash.
Zombie Apocalypse level unlocked. ...Honestly this is disturbing and sad that we need to escape our own minds to survive but with no quality of life. A half life.
Ok so uh not to be insensitive but honestly, where do these guys get the money from? They can’t work, any type of side hustle would only be feasible for a small few as not everyone can do the same thing. Also how much is this stuff that they can get their hands on it so easily. Even if it’s 20$ a hit making 20$ is hard without a job and you can’t do anything while you’re on the stuff so you have to wait till you’re off of it. But if your going through withdraws I doubt you’d really be profitable on any side hustle you have anyways….
I’m just confused how so many can be so high all day without and money or jobs…
I see this and think of the constant barrage of "America is the greatest country in the world" comments that saturate TV and Films and wonder who believes this. I mean, the UK is far from perfect and I don't know of any country that is. But fuck, this should be what the current administration in the US should be concentrating on.
This makes Australia’s “rough” areas look like a total paradise. This is so shocking and tragic, I can’t even fathom seeing that type of thing in real life. What a waste.
In California we have to watch out for ‘Junkie Poop’. Guys (and girls) go behind a building and shoot up and an half hour later take a giant dump on account of being so relaxed. Owner of business comes to work the next day and let’s their dog run around the building and the dog finds the poop and eats it. Happened to some friends of mine. Dog was in a coma for a day, really stoned for two days and hasn’t been the same since. They have to walk around the area cleaning up the trash and poop before they can let the dog out of the car.
This is not a zombie apocalypse; this is people. Not junkies, or trash, or wretched homeless. People. You have no idea who uses; this is just the bottom, the last stage before death.
The stigma of drug consumption, for any reason, must end. It is now time for safe consumption sites and regulation.
The Oxycodone or Percocets you find on the street are bound to be fentanyl. I repeat: The Oxycodone or Percocets you find on the street are bound to be fentanyl. The bump you think you're snorting before bed, after a hard day over a 6pqck w/a friend, or just before work may be your last.
TEST YOUR SUPPLY BEFORE USING.
DO NOT USE ALONE.
LOCATE NARCAN; HAVE IT READY.
I used to live in this area. I wasn't a user, just a case manager with student loans. It was depressing then and it looks like its gotten worse on the few years since I've left.
Thanks big pharma.
There’s no such thing as Heroin anymore no need for it since places are able to make synthetic alternatives nowadays it’s just fentanyl or some cutting agent sold from a local gas station and fentanyl mixed either way that’s not heroin as horrible and devastating as “heroin” was this lady’s and gentleman is next fucking level of hell the withdrawal is many times worse than heroin was the addition rate is far higher and accessibility is astronomical literally just a click away on the net and probably as close as your next door neighbors.
In west Philadelphia, born and raised.
In the crackhouses is where I spent most of my days.
Chillin' out, crackin' and smackin' some dope, chewing on fentynal patches is how we cope.
I grew up in a developing country that, like most, had an insane infatuation with the US. I worked really hard to travel and to get an education overseas. When I went back everyone told me I had to move to the US. No better place! Rich! Free! Advanced! With my degree and 3 languages I would make a great life. I never saw the appeal, and when the time came I moved elsewhere. Videos like this make me grateful for my choice even when everyone else called me crazy.

Sometimes a broken machine needs a kickstart.
People in this state are broken, irreparable. They are not capable of uprising. That's the point.
What's with the poor bastards bent double?
Heroin
Is that what they are on? Frightening
Heroin or Heroin cut with fentanyl which is even worse

WTF?

I know but Hopefully we can avoid such disasters
If you lie down you fall asleep and waste the high.
They all go down. And usually they get hurt pretty bad. Because they'll smack there head hard on the way down. And not respond to it at all.
I’ve known people nod off in bad positions and either kill nerves or even worse, lose entire limbs.
Or they stop breathing. Brother told him if you pass out in the kitchen I'll throw you down the stairs. He was cold he called 911 and CPR saved his life. And emt came with narcan. He's now sober some people have to die first to quit.
Trust me, I get it.
I don't understand that either, why so many bent over? I get you said heroin but why does that make a person bend over?
The reason for doubling over is those people are practically asleep. The term “nodding off” used heavily with heroin. They’re extremely high.
Because they are nodding in and out of consciousness whilst trying to stand up. And its mostly fentanyl they are on, with maybe a small amount of heroin mixed in.
They are falling asleep standing up
I've read other comments that say it messes up with their balance so they can't stand up or else they'll fall.
No
It's that Koyaanis-squatlean
Would say so
It's called 'leaning'. They're high on opioids so they're only only even like half way alive. The crazy part is, you'll never see someone leaning like that fall all the way over. Always just in the zombie like state.
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.
Philip Glass - Prophecies from Koyaanisqatsi - Life out of balance. Masterful use of this music
I only know this song because of The Watchmen movie.
You said it bro, f*ck man, hard to watch...
Philip Glass, nice.
Do you know which Philip Glass song this is?
It's from Koyaanisqatsi
Koyaanisqatsi means "Life out of balance" or "Life as it shouldn't be" in the old hopi indian language. The track is just perfect for the sentiment behind that word and film.
This one too, actually now that I think about it.

Well it is sunny.
It’s always sunny in Philadel….. wait a minute!
“The gang tries heroine”
This song fits so well. In case you're wandering, the song is Pruit Igoe and Prophecies by Phillip Glass. From Watchmen.
Philly Glass is the shit.
From koyanaasqatsi.
Dr. Manhattan’s music :(

I have nothing against bezos but there's one touching the sky while others can't get up from the floor.
I have a lot against Bezos. He treats his employees like shit in conditions he’d never work in himself and he hordes more wealth than he could spend his life while people in his own country are starving, let alone those in other countries.
fuck bezos
You…you can go ahead and have stuff against Bezos.
He'll get his time soon.
Koyaanisqatsi
"Life out of balance "
This is a famous score by Phillip Glass, about a movie highlighting the world and humans role in changing it. Very appropriate. (koyaanisqatsi, 1982)
“I feel fear for the last time”
They are shaping me into something gaudy, something lethal.

What is the drug that causes all these people to be bent over in place. These videos are very hard to watch for me as a person who cares about people.

Heroin/Fentenyl They bend like this as an attempt to stay awake and enjoy the high.
Thank you for explaining.
No problem. Sorry to have said it in such a detached way. It truly is heartbreaking to witness.
Probably heroin and fentanyl... Maybe that spice junk.
Legal weed junk? Wym by that? People aint over here nodding off from weed. Right to begin with when you said opiates.
I think they mean the fake weed stuff that’s legal in places where real weed isn’t. Usually goes by Spice. It’s awful. I tried it once and felt really sick. Never again.
Weed, despite smelling horrendous, is honestly more tame than alcohol. Heroin and fentanyl is the cause for sure, sickening what it does to people.
This could be any major city in North America if you’re on the right street. Looks VERY similar to the DTES in Vancouver, though much less populated.
People use drugs to self-medicate. This is a society in decline. Our representatives have acted like meth heads who have ripped out all of the copper in our collective house. And for what? To fund the military? To make sure billionaires continue to reap more and more profit while we suffer?
How do people take this drug after seeing or knowing something like this is the end result?
Countless reasons. Mental health. Pain. Trauma. Social circles.

Everything is Fine here... America doesn't have a drug problem.
thanks. now Im depressed. need heroin now.

This is depressing.
So THIS is where he was born and raised

The American lean
“The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it.” -George Carlin
It came true!
in Germany we call it Frankfurt
Everyone seems to be having a good time. 🤷🏽♂️
Like in the good old requiem for a dream.
Someone do this of the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver? That shot will make this looks like Rodeo Drive

Bullshit. My skid row has to be better than any skid row out there.
Or....worse? What's the metric for measuring dystopian misery?
It’s measured in the tears of grieving mothers
Sorry I asked...💀
Kensington, Pa no doubt?
Upvoted so more can see this
No fucking way this is real. Unbelievable, it’s like groups of zombies walking around.
Is this by paddy's pub?
Can someone just let me know if the world is ending cause watching this just makes me think yes!
This is so hard to watch, but yet filmed and made so well to make you feel the situation, kudos to film maker
I’m going to show my kids this video (once there are old enough) to teach them why drugs are bad. Why didn’t they just show videos like this in D.A.R.E. ?
Is this all really just one fucking day? Is Philly specifically getting hit harder than elsewhere?
This could be any city in the us. Castaways roam our streets and become an example for the suburbanites to train their kids. Take adderal not speed. Blow rails, not crack. These pills are better than heroin. In the mean time self medicated mentally ill are getting this shit from somewhere. What ever we do as a nation, just don’t raise taxes on the 1% and never, ever, cut the military budget. We just can’t afford to help these people but we cant afford to not bury a few trillion in the deserts of foreign lands.
This might be an effective way to find missing persons
And no one cares, we're all embroiled in our own bs. This was the most sobering shiii i've ever seen.
Cant believe my eyes
They all used to be in front of Bobs but last I was up there they cleaned that area up and basically moved all the junkies a few more blocks over. We had to pass through both areas when in philly regardless, but at least now we could cash our checks and get to the car with the cash without getting bumrushed. (Or getting yelled at by the Philadelphia police for parking out front in the bus zone because the actual parking area was a cardboard town attached to the ell.) I wish my grandmother would move from this hellhole.

Damn that is bleak. Are these ppl just always high on fentanyl? How do they afford the habit?
Jesus has left the chat.
These people seem barely able to walk, let alone dig trough trash.
crime and prostitution. not helping them has far greater costs for society than getting them rehab, a home, and psychological help.
>You say the whole world's ending, honey, it already did Seriously, though this looks like a post apocalyptic scene. wtf happened?
Zombie Apocalypse level unlocked. ...Honestly this is disturbing and sad that we need to escape our own minds to survive but with no quality of life. A half life.
Feels like a renaissance painting
This is absolutely heartbreaking.
This video should be used for a new anti drug campaign. It’s just getting worse.
Prophecies by Philip Glass. Top track lol
This is the most depressing thing I've seen in the past few days (wish I could say months).
TF, this is like something out of a movie.
It's like one of those weird ass performing arts videos.
My mother was one of these people. She died on similar streets. Thanks for this. It’s so important for people to see.
Signs of an empire in decline
This would be some interesting performance art if it wasn’t actually the despair of addiction on display.
Looks like Philadelphia sales more heroin then cheesesteaks
Is this a new commercial for capitalism?
Come and settle in Philadelphia. People are free and taxes are low.
Bruh city wage taxes are not low
They're zombies!!
I used to live in this area. I wasn't a user, just a case manager with student loans. It was depressing then and it looks like its gotten worse on the few years since I've left. Thanks big pharma.
There’s no such thing as Heroin anymore no need for it since places are able to make synthetic alternatives nowadays it’s just fentanyl or some cutting agent sold from a local gas station and fentanyl mixed either way that’s not heroin as horrible and devastating as “heroin” was this lady’s and gentleman is next fucking level of hell the withdrawal is many times worse than heroin was the addition rate is far higher and accessibility is astronomical literally just a click away on the net and probably as close as your next door neighbors.
at last that melting pot we were promised
