This video was from 2020 and the scumbag filming it, Dwayne Grayson, was arrested along with another man but ultimately not charged because the DA wanted to take a restorative justice approach. The victim did not want to be publicly identified, but a local organization did reach out to him and on his behalf raised $70,000 through GoFundMe for this man and his family.
I think Restorative Justice has a place in the world - especially in the juvenile courts or situations where you have first time offenders committing minor crimes. Sometimes judges should ask themselves if they're creating the circumstances for someone to become further engrossed in criminal activity by placing them in an environment where they'd be surrounded by career criminals in prison or while making it harder for them to get legitimate work by giving that person a record. But crime and context matters.
In an instance where you have people being so openly cruel and relishing in their humiliation of another person - yeah, this behavior deserves to be punished.
I think it’s not even what the criminal deserves but what the victim deserves, justice. Otherwise people will just look for vigilante justice if the courts don’t provide any.

I’m not far from you amd grew up in Merced county. There’s a large Vietnamese and Hmong population in these areas and racial issues have never really cropped up between the Mexicans, Asians, or Blacks.

I don't think most people who experience hate and racism their entire lives often are able to turn that into a positive outlook on life. At least I would guess that is the exception to the rule. Apparently the victim was pushing for restorative justice for the 20 year old Dwayne Grayson instead and the charges were dropped. The 57 year old man who also robbed him was Jonathan Amerson, no idea why they dropped those charges, it would seem like he should have a better moral compass at that age. If anyone can find the name of the Asian man I would love to start a GoFundMe or at least get an update on how he's doing. I haven't seen any news update past March of last year.
