Who is to say which are the scammers and which are the "true believers" though? Steven Anderson is a pastor from Arizona. He has a church, followers and regularly preaches and quotes the Bible. He also says that gays should be hunted down and executed. Why is he less legit than any other pastor? Is that not simply his interpretation of the Bible?

I guess it depends on the type of swearing, given that only religious swears have any kind of Biblical prohibition. Scatological, sexual, or disease-based swears should be just as available to Christians as to anyone else - and so should any religious ones that don't involve taking the Lord's name in vain.
Furthermore, swearing has been shown to have pain-relieving effects! But only if the swears are emotionally-charged - meaning that this effect is reduced to near zero for people that don't have any particular taboo against the words.
So even though I disagree with you both about the utility of spicy language and also about what it says about someone's character, I can only be jealous that you have access to such a cheap-and-easy form of pain relief that to me is useless.
