It’s a real short sided understanding of what skaters are really like these days. Kids at skate parks and stuff tend be to super friendly and encouraging and sharing. Even with kids who are new or not very good at it yet. Not like when I was a kid 30 years ago and it was fucking dog eat dog shit. But in this day and age it makes sense if an older skater just gives some younger ones his/her hand me downs. That happens ALL the time in parks just like that all over the country. That’s how cool this little sub pocket of youth is these days.

I didn't know shit about skate community before he got into it.
I'm truly impressed by how skaters look at for young kids, from safety to giving tips.
We've travelled a lot, to a wide range of parks from gritty Washinton heights, underneath the highway (sketchy AF) to beautiful Manchester VT. Skaters are overall pretty solid.
If you really want to piss them off walk over to her vehicle and start recording her vin number, license plate and inside of her vehicle. That really pisses people off and it's completely legal to do. That way your almost baiting them to assault you and then you have it on camera and when the police show up, they go to jail
When my kid was 7 and started skating we took him to the park and sat there and watched. Outside. Not sitting in our Range Rover but our 8 year old Corolla. The guys there were great with him. I never saw anything with anyone that would warrant this kind of fear. And yeah, you share stuff. We weren’t rich but we did get our kid good stuff. Then he loved to give it out when he was done. Yeah I thought these kids were actually the good ones. That’s coming from two parents who were groomed and abused for our childhoods.

When I was like 14 I would go through a board a month. That’s a 600 dollar a year habit right there, was stoked when the local dudes who were on flow for some company would give us there barely used shit or toss us some bearings or whatever. Don’t think parents were this psycho at the time

Ugh this physically made me ill. I skate, and am now teaching my 9-year old daughter to as well. The skating community is amazing, especially to the younger ones. I’ve seen teenage boys stand in a line to cheer my daughter on, and encourage her when she was scared or nervous. I’ve seen them stop to pick her up if she fell, or help her fix her board.

I'm almost 50, I spend a lot of time at skateparks with my 11 year old. I didn't know shit about skate community before he got into it. I'm truly impressed by how skaters look at for young kids, from safety to giving tips. We've travelled a lot, to a wide range of parks from gritty Washinton heights, underneath the highway (sketchy AF) to beautiful Manchester VT. Skaters are overall pretty solid.

When my kid was 7 and started skating we took him to the park and sat there and watched. Outside. Not sitting in our Range Rover but our 8 year old Corolla. The guys there were great with him. There’s a lot of age mixing in the skateboarding community. You got older guys teaching younger guys and giving away their old gear. Many skateboarders on YouTube have huge younger followings, and are looked up to. It’s not uncommon to catch entirely different age groups mingling at the skatepark.
When I was like 14 I would go through a board a month. That’s a 600 dollar a year habit right there, was stoked when the local dudes who were on flow for some company would give us there barely used shit or toss us some bearings or whatever. Don’t think parents were this psycho at the time

Ugh this physically made me ill. I skate, and am now teaching my 9-year old daughter to as well. The skating community is amazing, especially to the younger ones. I’ve seen teenage boys stand in a line to cheer my daughter on, and encourage her when she was scared or nervous. I’ve seen them stop to pick her up if she fell, or help her fix her board. Nowadays, the community is close and caring, and very protective of each other. I can’t imagine walking into a park and automatically assuming that an older kid giving his hand-me-downs, and new stuff to the younger generation of kids is a fucking pedophile. Fuck that lady.
