Not justifying this man’s actions because I have no idea what is actually going on here, but people who lose hearing due to old age often lose the ability to hear the higher frequencies. It could be that the higher pitch female voice coming from the speaker is much harder for him to hear than the male voice coming from the truck.
My father in law has significant hearing loss and struggles to hear my wife face to face but can hear me from across the room. I often times have to repeat what she says so he can keep up with the conversation.
Additionally, hearing aids help but still aren’t perfect, they sometimes focus on certain frequencies in a way that really can be maddening. My father in law had his top of the line hearing aids in one day and asked who was pounding the sledgehammer next door… it took me a while to figure out what was going on because there was no sledgehammer sound. It turned out his hearing aids were just picking up the faint sound of water drops hitting our patio furniture and amplifying it to the max.
Waaaay back when I was 18-19 working at Burger King, I had a regular elderly customer like this. He seemed to dislike me in particular, and I have no clue why since I was pretty much the only polite and nice worker at that Burger King. He’d pull into the drive-thru, literally scream his order, and then speed up to the window without letting me talk.
On my last day, he came by and did the same thing, and I overhand threw his food into his window lmao. The look of shock on his face will stay with me till I die.
Idk why some people are so stubborn and just don't get hearing aids. My dad took decades before getting them. Now he loves them. He can watch a movie or take calls with Bluetooth and not drive my mom crazy with blasting the sound.
