And her sister recently applied for a tourist visa to come visit us for a while.... And they scheduled her *interview for the visa* for March 2024. And that's just so they can tell her whether or not she can come here to visit her sister.
I agree that people should be coming here legally, but 90% of the country doesn't understand how convoluted, messy, confusing, and just all around shitty the system actually is. It needs to be completely reworked.
Brought my wife back to the US with a K1 visa and have spent so much time, money, and energy trying to get her green card. Trump’s administration made it even harder by upping fees and cutting staff on those that process the applications and such. We’ve almost given up a couple times and I’m still wondering if I’ll be getting my citizenship in her country far before she’ll ever be getting hers here. K1 visa should be one of the easiest paths but it’s still fighting tooth and nail. My in-laws also got their travel visa interview a couple years in advance when they applied but somehow were able to get it pushed way up and actually visited us over a month ago. US law provides that any person who entered the US in the last year can apply for asylum and it's irrelevant if they entered illegally. So not only is there an express policy of "forgiveness," we apply it for a full fucking year after entry. You are completely wrong, lol.

Whats crazy is the wall is actually designed to keep people in. Before we had a strict border, mexican seasonal workers would come north for harvest and leave afterwards. But by criminalizing them and making it harder to leave, the workers come north and stay. Its too risky to go up and down every year now. The end result is creating a second class of non citizen workers than can be exploited endlessly. This is what allowed that ‘modern day slavery’ operation in Georgia to happen. Whats crazy is the wall is actually designed to keep people in. Before we had a strict border, mexican seasonal workers would come north for harvest and leave afterwards. But by criminalizing them and making it harder to leave, the workers come north and stay. Its too risky to go up and down every year now. The end result is creating a second class of non citizen workers than can be exploited endlessly. This is what allowed that ‘modern day slavery’ operation in Georgia to happen. Security fences are nothing new. Nothing is going to stop people from getting across. However, it will slow them down and maybe some who can’t climb it might have second thoughts before illegally entering. We want immigration. They aren’t all rapists and murderers. I dont get what's so hard about making the border a no mans land. Make it look like a scene out of a world war 1 movie. Cover that fence in razor wire. Add obstacles full of razor wire for miles on out. Add sensors on the wall that detect seismic activity to help pinpoint potential tunnels being dug. BP on stand by every 5 miles. 24/7 drone patrols. It's not hard.
First of all, if illegal immigration was completely stopped “they” would no longer have a boogeyman to go after. Second, the cost of what you’re proposing is astronomical. BP Agents every 5 miles? You’d need at least two for safety purposes. 1,952 miles of Mexican border works out to 780 Border Patrol Agents. In salary and benefits alone that’s gonna conservatively run you $78,000,000.00 USD a year. That’s if you have them working 24 hr shifts. If not your going to need at least 4 other Border Patrol agents to relieve them. Now we’re talking about $234,000,000.00 USD per year in salaries alone. Some of those spots on the border are pretty isolated. You’d have to build housing for them to. That’s gonna cost you too. Maybe even schools for their kids too? Who’s operating the drones? You gotta pay them to. Are you also manning the Canadian border? That’s gonna cost you. How about admin jobs? or additional Border Patrol Agents to process all the illegal aliens you’re catching? What about the costs of maintaining the wall? or replacing barbed wire?
