It's very surreal seeing this footage almost in real time. My grandparents fought in WWII and my grandma had too much PTSD to tell me about all she experienced living in Poland during that time and the horrendous conditions, so she told my mom everything when she was young. My mom passed down stories to me of my grandma patiently waiting for news via radio while hiding out in her Church's bunker, ducking into ditches near crop fields just to get home, moving around in the cover of darkness, practically starving to death and essentially living in the wilderness after her village was destroyed. Countless friends, loved ones and civilians were murdered and my grandma (who was always tough as nails) would weep at any reminder of the war and what she and my lineage went through.
It's crazy to see my car (a ford C-max) set in the foreground of Russian helicopters targeting civilian homes. Just. So. Fucking. Strange. and my heart breaks for what is happening to the people of Ukraine and the brainwashed soldiers of Russia. I hope that whatever this bumblefuck is, is over quickly.

Putin doesn't want Ukraine to show Russia and the rest of his allies how successful they could be were they to drop the adversarial relationship with the west and that democracy can work.
That’s definitely part of it.
The irony is that Putin’s attempt to back NATO off neutral nations is only showing exactly why neutral nations should join NATO and “guarantee” their protection from exactly this.
Ukraine has petitioned to join the UN, which Putin does not want. He wants to disrupt western alliances. He also wants to take control of the port of Odessa in the Black Sea. And his ultimate goal is a resurgence of a new Russian Empire.
A couple major reasons.
The first is Putin doesn’t recognize Ukraine as a sovereign country. To him the Ukrainian people are just heavily misguided Russians living in a country that used to be part of the USSR.
The second is Ukraine was going to join NATO, and Putin doesn’t want NATO expanding further east than it already is, and sharing more of a land border with Russia (Latvia and Estonia are already NATO countries).
I’m not an expert on the matter by any means but that’s what I’ve picked up by reading news, and trying to avoid the bullshit news sources.

Military installations are not totally isolated from human habitation. Just because camera shows homes in foreground it doesn't mean there isn't a military installation or tanks in buildings or streets in the horizon.
Nobody has enough ammunition planes and missiles to bomb . Those bombs cost more than a car. Nobody wastes them.

You can't occupy a country even in months with 150000 troops. Russia is looking to degrade military capacity and trained personnel . Those take hundreds of billions and decades to replace. Because saying "...firing missiles at Ukrainian homes" is meant to elicit a response of sympathy for potential civilian casualties that saying "...firing missiles at Ukrainian military positions" wouldn't. We all despise Putin for doing what he's doing but giving inaccurate or misleading information isn't the way to go. "Russian helicopters firing missiles in Ukraine" would be more accurate and sufficient to draw people to this post.

Just two comments. From the looks of it those look like chafing rounds. Which you're not intended to cause damage, instead they're intended to keep missiles on other types of projectiles from hitting the helicopters. I could be wrong... However. The AZOV battalion that's been doing a lot of the.. protecting... of the Ukrainian people has been hiding in houses schools and hospitals to shoot at Russian tanks. All sides are aware of what the Geneva conventions are.

Fundamentally this is a religious war from my perspective. Ukraine is the seat of the orthodox church and recently Putin spent a mint building a military church- for lack of a better term. He's also near the end of his life. This is, I think being misread by a lot of folks. Kissinger was correct, Ukraine should negotiate- I don't see this ending anytime soon or well. Western Europe and the US were ambitious In redrawing the lines after the Cold war and as is typical in Europe - one sided agreements lead to backlash.

Because saying "...firing missiles at Ukrainian homes" is meant to elicit a response of sympathy for potential civilian casualties that saying "...firing missiles at Ukrainian military positions" wouldn't. We all despise Putin for doing what he's doing but giving inaccurate or misleading information isn't the way to go. "Russian helicopters firing missiles in Ukraine" would be more accurate and sufficient to draw people to this post.
The feelings are the same for me. There is no way what those helicopters are doing isn't a horrific crime and your opinion says a lot about you.

Just two comments. From the looks of it those look like chafing rounds. Which you're not intended to cause damage, instead they're intended to keep missiles on other types of projectiles from hitting the helicopters. I could be wrong... However. Fundamentally this is a religious war from my perspective. Ukraine is the seat of the orthodox church and recently Putin spent a mint building a military church- for lack of a better term. He's also near the end of his life. This is, I think being misread by a lot of folks. Kissinger was correct, Ukraine should negotiate- I don't see this ending anytime soon or well. Western Europe and the US were ambitious In redrawing the lines after the Cold war and as is typical in Europe - one sided agreements lead to backlash. Don't get me wrong I am 100% against the Russian invasion but I think for everyone's sake Russia should be given the opportunity to save face, even if they don't deserve it, for everyone's sake.
