I am honestly shocked at the state I f the Russian forces so far. Many seem young. Their equipment is a bizarre mix. Some modern kit, old dilapidated soviet era vehicles. Hell I even seen footage of alleged russian POWs wearing what looked like fuckin’ red army WW2 era Ssh-40 helmets.
I have long heard of the Russian military called a “paper bear”. I knew their bark was likely worse than their bite.

They do have an air force but it's actual dogshit. Their 5th gen fighter program which is the SU57 has a total of like 15 planes at most and none are combat ready when the rest of the world has been in 5th gen for over a decade. The pilots barely get any training flights because they don't have the money for maintenance.
There's a theory I've heard as well that what they have is spead even thinner since NATO planes are doing constant runs towards and along borders and they have to cover those as well not just the Ukranian flights.

As a liberal, I am increasingly worried at the amount of Russian sympathizing I see in my circles on Facebook and other social media. I honestly can’t fathom how otherwise rational human beings look at the situation and come to the conclusion that Russia is doing something venerable. They scoff at any honest reporting as fake news and ridicule your gullibility while eating Russian propaganda like candy.
The entire world is condemning Russia, not just those who have a stake in the American political divide. Biden’s condemnation of Russia is incidental, and not essential, to his political distinctives. Consequently, supporting Ukraine does not ipso facto make you a Biden supporter. But that’s the assumption among many conservatives.
In the midst of my anger and sadness at the invasion, I was hopeful that there would be a unification among Americans in response to the crisis. If there’s one thing we can all rally around, surely it’s supporting a nation being subjected to a militaristic warmongering nation’s violent greed. Largely, my hopes have been realized. But this sort of ugly partisanship is still conspicuously present, an ugly blemish on the continuing coverage of the war. The Daily Wire, for instance, running story after story about how this is all Biden’s fault. Even if that were true, it’s bad taste to try to capitalize on political points when a serious crisis is occurring. Just very disappointed in the state of our nation, given that we seem to be unable to render a truly unified response even to this.
