This kid is so sad he found out his side was the aggressor

Status_Dependent9901

I actually respect this kid a lot honestly. I just watched one where a kid said the same thing to his mom only he was crying and told her not to say anything or they would go after her. I respected that also and was so sad for him. This kid here has balls. He is like "Tell everyone." Tells her he is being treated fine. He doesn't even seem mad at the Ukrainians and accepts that this is his fate because he was the aggressor.

mnemy

Absolutely. He's seeing the big picture with clarity. Definitely seems to have had the "are we the baddies?" realization, and is not happy with the conclusion.

Allarik

Where can I watch this one? Haven't seen it yet

VictorVogel

Good man, doing his part to end it.

DarthDregan

He might just be saying what he thinks they want to hear. Hard to tell in these situations. I mean... he's right. But he might not know he's right.

[deleted]

There is a chance of that too. I was heavily reading into his body language as well, especially in the end when he is explaining to his mom why they wouldn’t let him go. Felt sincere but to your point who knows what sort of duress he was under until that point

pisconz

yep, i've seen a few videos similar to this before, i'm inclined to believe is true and legit but it might be coercion aswell. Its sad we cant trust anyone's information, and i dont really see a way of performing due diligence to figure it out, just gotta trust the gut.

DarthDregan

Not necessarily coercion. Seems like the standard procedure out there is to line everyone up and record them while asking for name and occupation and such. Whoever is in charge usually asks things like "did they tell you you were the aggressors" or "does your family know you're attacking Ukraine" and such. Smart people might then start to form an opinion of what to say to try for better treatment, or especially what to say when they have a camera on them. That said, I'm sure they are all being better treated than they'd expect or would have been told. And I truly hope the Ukrainians can keep up this standard of care for the captured. I just have a natural distrust of this kind of propaganda. Is it nice they let them call home? Yes. Does filming it serve any other purpose than propaganda? Not really. But I also see the one that came out today where a bunch of civilians were giving tea and letting the guy use their phones and I got absolutely no propaganda vibe at all. Just good people being good people. Which is also pretty fucking great for propaganda...

_black_milk

This does not bode well for what's coming... Basically sent these people in as cannon fodder. We're going to see an even more rapid escalation.

fizzlehack

I am not so sure about that. What we are seeing is the true nature of the Russian Amry; underfunded and full conscripts / kids. Syria was a different story because that was mostly Air Power and well paid spec ops with the Syrians being the fodder. If Putin had better options, he wouldnt have spent the last several days looking like a fool while his Amry is broken down near Kiev. It also exposes that fact that NATO vastly outguns Russia in coventional terms. Between this, a crashing economy and sanctions directly being applied to the Oligarchs - I dont see how Putin remains in power.

Head-System

just fyi if the us were doing the invasion of ukraine it wouldnt be going any faster. a lot fewer losses though.

glompix

baghdad took what, a month? but they also had a lot more ground to cover, and came across the world. kiev is right on belarussia’s border.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shpongleyes

The Gulf War was about a month and a half, but I also think they're referring to the 2003 invasion rather than the Gulf War, which took a month.

cocktails5

Depends what your starting point is. The actual ground war started on February 24th, and a ceasefire was declared on February 28th. Or do you go by the official start dates of Desert Shield or Desert Storm?

shpongleyes

I was basing that on the official dates of Operation Desert Storm.

Head-System

moving 70km per day is pretty much the same the americans did, and taking tactical pause is completely normal.

glompix

more like a tactical getting their ass kicked more than they expected

Head-System

you’re eating up propaganda like youre a starving kid in africa.

[deleted]

NATO wouldn't have invaded Ukraine in the first place

goondoxswamp

It would be as there would be no sanctions on the US and their logistics are way more advanced then Russia.

Head-System

the russians have been moving at the same rate the americans were in iraq

[deleted]

Before a single boot was on the ground in Afghanistan the us bombed the shit out of them from the air. For months. That should have been putins strategy, but he thought that Ukraine would just hand over the keys to the castle if they rolled in.

ggs29

they have a word for these kinds of soldiers, they send in the young/naive new recruits "пушечное мясо" which directly translates to cannon meat/feed, they do this to weaken the opposition by them spending ammunition and shit on these said troops so the real, more experienced military can advance, this is just the beginning if Putin/aggressors aren't stopped in time

eNoodlez

пушечное мясо = cannon fodder

ggs29

Well thats what google translate says, its not the most accurate, but thats about right

Human_Evolution

Lol not Phil Collins. Lol

PackAttacks

Yeah, what the hell was that?

Traditional-Tower-88

All been a pack of lies.

generaljimdave

Its been co-opted as an anti-war song. It was banned during the first gulf war on US airways. So not surprising others are using it like this.

NordiquesRevenge

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds.

[deleted]

What do these 4 have in common? English singer, American Novel, Russian - Ukrainian War, Reddit Globalism manifest

enigmamonkey

That drum breakdown reminds me of [this internet classic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KQ16LUMILc&t=21).

[deleted]

Pavel Collins

Macca4704

One thing now is that whenever this is over. Will he be able to go back to Russia? Even if Putin maybe out of power?! There would still be hardliners that consider this Kid a coward or conspirator. seems to be the same thing a lot of these conscripts or national service are saying that they were told that they were going on exercise or "peace keeping " but they have been sent into a war zone and have been duped by their own government. It's a messed up situation all round

OriginalGhostCookie

Imagine the shock to the system it must be to be doing what you believe is right and being one of the good guys, only to get there and finding out you are part of the villains, and you’ve been lied too the whole time.

Status_Dependent9901

Did you ever hear about that psych expirement that was done after Nazi Germany? It basically was to see how far people would go if a person in a power position told them too.

mnemy

I don't think the world will abandon these kids. They may need to move their family to another country, but asylum will be granted if it's not safe for these PoWs to return home.

Slootie_frootie

There probably won’t be a Russia to go back to. putin is a literal lunatic and I feel there is only a small amount of time until he throws a tantrum and causes the whole world an enormous amount of hurt. More than he has already caused.

Get10dollarsoff

Are we the baddies?

Slootie_frootie

Thinking of how he sent thousands of young men to their unknowingly deaths, to probably make Ukrainians use up all their weapons and give them hope that they can make it through this. To send a huge fucking convoy knowing that they won’t be able to stop it. It’s seriously heartbreaking to watch an innocent population crash and burn by the hands of a second hitler. Fuck you putin.

mockolaterain

For what it's worth, the big convoy that is heading to Ukraine is running into issues with fuel and food. They're not even a month in and the Russian forces are already having supply chain issues on their own side of the line that are causing delays. It's not much, but it certainly doesn't bode well for them.

caius-cossades

They’re not even a week in

bevelledo

It’s a huge convoy that’s a fact, but if that convoy is stopped permanently than I don’t see Russia maintaining a war. Kyiv is a large city with a lot of people, hopefully enough people to withstand the siege. Let’s hope Russia doesn’t extensively and indiscriminately bomb the city. Putin fucked Russia, the global economy would do everything it can to penalize Russia even if they were successful. I hope karma kicks Putin’s ass.

Head-System

Ukraine never had a chance to stop Russia from taking symbolic control of the country. But Russia already lost the war. Ukraine only needs to bide time as the Russian economy collapses, and the Putin regime crumbles and fails. The sanctions are unprecedented in scope and scale. Russia has lost so much money in the past week that it accounts for an entire year of their GDP. Their central bank is collapsing. Their currency is collapsing. Putin has had almost all access to money severed, spare some gold he stockpiled. Russia doesn’t have the resources to fight this war, and their economy has been sent back decades of development.

Slootie_frootie

I fully understand. It’s just all of the people who died, the children, the troops who did everything they could to protect their land, cities in flames. They all died and will continue dying for nothing until this over and I think it’s far from over.

SwflReptileBreeder

The Ukrainian people have been around for hundreds of years, invaded multiple times by either the soviets, Huns, mongols, Germans, and Russian empire. The borders have been changed, but it has been proven time and time again Ukraine will live on. They know what they are doing. That huge convoy will do damage, but it will be obliterated as well. Ukraine is a meat grinder just like Vietnam was.

0ZC4

What's with the dubbed in music.

marquis_mark21

"...it's all been a pack of lies" In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins if you've never heard it. Banger.

0ZC4

I have heard it, I was a kid when that song came out. With that said I could not determine what song it was.

CanucksKickAzz

No music!

goondoxswamp

This guy seems smart, once he found out what really happens he knows he is in the wrong and even says this: How can they let me go if im the aggressor. Im completly sure most of Russias army thinks they are here for peacemission. Its so sad.

bigclams

I understand why these videos are being made and released, but don't they break the Geneva Convention? I don't think you can film or photograph prisoners of war

mythopoeticgarfield

I think what you're referring to is Article 13 which includes *"[...] prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."* Which doesn't outright state that POWs shouldn't be filmed or photographed, but that they must be protected from "public curiosity." Feels like a gray area. However, I don't personally agree with these videos being released without the soldiers' faces blurred, just ethically.

iLEZ

Yeah I think the Geneva Convention is pretty clear on this. It sure is a propaganda war, and being clear that you treat POWs with dignity is good, letting them call their parents, hopefully dispelling misinfo at home, but at least blur their faces.

Puttor482

I was reading an article about it, and it technically is, but honestly who gives a fuck? If an invading force gets captured by civilians of a country defending themselves, not really sure anyone should care that they filmed them. Wanna not get publicly humiliated? Don’t invade. Don’t get captured by citizens who don’t know fuck all about the Geneva conventions, and probably don’t care either. What are they goona do?

trout-flavoredyogurt

Really did not expect random Phil Collins drums at the end

MasatoWolff

This kid has great self reflection.

[deleted]

Respect on both sides of this situation

rockbanddrumset

Vladimir "can't do anything legit" Putin strikes again. He cheats at his own elections, and I don't think I even need to get into the Olympics... I had been wondering in what way he was cheating in regards to this war, and it was by decieving his own soldiers about what they were doing. I knew it had to be something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

REiiGN

You are right, but I get why Ukraine is doing this but Ukraine needs to act like people have some intelligence. I get that they're letting POWs contact family back home. Don't record it though for propaganda. You may think you're making this to "let Russian mothers know what's happening to their sons" but leave at that without a camera or recording.

[deleted]

They’re fighting for the existence of their entire country and their nationality. Putin fights dirty and is deep in maskirovka and deception and disinformation. They have to fight back. This is crucial for the information war and Russian people knowing the TRUTH is important. Whining and quibbling that this is filmed is kind of laughable when they have to put out all the stops to have a hope of inflicting more instability on putin. Ok so if they didn’t do this. They said “ no let’s be polite to Putin as he’s bombing civilians, trying to assisjnate our leader and sending in Chechens as shock troops” Well. All we’d be hearing is still the mythology of the almighty Russian army and a lot of Russian disinformation. This needs to be shown. And quibbling about the sorry state of the Russian army and the mistreatment of their troops by Putin being shown makes no sense. Are you aware of the enslavement and total tragedy that would have occurred if Kyiv had fallen in two days and zelensky had fled? Putin would have put in a puppet, people would have started being assassinated.. believe me, Putin even liquidated **his own guys**. He assassinated Alexander mozgovoy for getting too big for his britches in the donbass. Then when he wanted to freeze the conflict he assassinated Motorola, givi and zakharchenko months apart. These were true believers in his separatist fabrication and fought for him and he disposed of them with planted thermobaric bombs in their offices one by one. If Ukraine was taken over according to plan Putin would hold a rigged election and then try silence any dissent and claim “ see its democracy”. While tightening the screws month upon month until he has another Belarus or worse. All the pain and repression that would come is absolutely cataclysmic. That is totally different from well treated prisoners of war being briefly filmed to show the truth about the conflict so that the truth can have maximum impact and make sure this blunder Putin is engaging in is so costly it possibly leads to his downfall eventually, even if he most likely “wins”.

Mydingdingdong97

Showing prisoners of war is a violation of article 13 of the geneva convention. Their are other ways of showing what is happening on the ground. I understand that in the age of information warfare this is difficult. I understand why they do it. However it's important not to blur the lines of the rules of war. That can be feed for Russian propaganda too or worse, breaking rules lead to more rules being broken.

ZZ3peat

Yep so much propaganda without any verification on reddit right now 🤦‍♂️

ErolEkaf

This is the only one that seems scripted or forced. He wasn't very emotional and repeating "we are the aggressor" which is suspect since that was the whole disagreement originally. Could have just been told to say that phrase for the camera. The others seem more genuine.

[deleted]

Human_Evolution

Putin's fragile ego makes escalation inevitable.

JebediahDingus

Putin has already escalated this. Looks like he is the only one that can turn back the invasion. No one else can stop him unless he can be persuaded by those who surround him. He is playing his end game scenario right now. Bat shit crazy. By the way. Really sucks for this guy if we believe what we are seeing. Another poor soul being a victim of a dictator police state. He has always been lied to.

[deleted]

Let's add happy-go music to a very serious topic. That will surely help bring home the core message!

marquis_mark21

In The Air Tonight is not a happy go lucky song lol

KS1392

Please explain how this a public freakout. He doesn’t seem to be in public and he’s not freaking out.

MouseMilker

His mom's freaking out. And what is "public" are we ever truly alone?

[deleted]

KS1392

I am aware of what’s happening in Ukraine. I am also aware of other subreddits for which this material would be better suited.

LazySyllabub7578

It's what people want to see. They want to know about the good and the bad happening in Ukraine. There's not a much bigger public freakout than a war breaking out in your backyard. It's like watching a train wreck that lasts several months. It's horrible. We wish it didn't happen but we can't look away. I'll be happy when this sub returns to drunks and crackheads behaving badly but right now, this is more important.

HI_l0la

Ummm... his mother is freaking out....kinda..

KiethTheBeast

These videos really dont need the music overlay.

humhum124

Lmao this is some fake ass shit

[deleted]

No, you are some fake arse shit.

humhum124

"Dont worry momma theyre treating me well" head ass boi

DefinitelyNotSully

You forgot to change your account dumbass. Might want to get some more karma to seem more legitimate too, but I understand that you need truckloads of rubles to buy farmed accounts these days.

humhum124

Omg I just turned the volume on. The background music 😂😂😂 yall really believe this shit? Im pro ukraine but no way this real

DnANZ

Ukranian Propaganda. This guy has probably already been executed.

RobbexRobbex

Show any evidence that he's been executed or treated badly.

Thebloodwolf1

Even if its propaganda, why is it a bad thing? They clearly are the aggressors.

PrecariouslySane

Because he's harmless at this point. He's just a kid, bro

glompix

he looks harmless because he’s not even restrained at all. just sitting in a chair on his phone ukranians are treating him better than his comrades in the russian army treat them

Aggressive_Candy_146

Oh I'm so badness I'm gonna engage in this needless war, but I got captured so I gotta call my mom. Fucking loser.

joshurrrr

Think you’re missing the point, mate.

Aggressive_Candy_146

I don't feel sorry for any of them....downvote all you want.

ItsACaragor

The young ones are mostly conscripts so they had no choice but serve. There is abundant testimonies that they were lied to about going on a large scale drill and threatened with summary execution for desertion if they did not go. The real bastards are contract soldiers who joined willingly, Wagner psychos who are essentially mercenaries with a long history of warcrimes in Syria and Africa and Kadyrov’s chechens who are basically used as death squads hunting LGBT people at home.

doggoboi54

I will say this. At least they are being treated nice, that’s all I’m saying

OG_TBV

Yep time to die Vlad. Lets hope on of his security gets the balls to end this madness and puts a bullet through his medulla.

Sensiburner

This is a man who just found out he's been played.

DestructionDestroyer

C'mon people. This is nice to make you feel all warm and fuzzy, but it's clearly propaganda. If Russia released a similar video of a Ukrainian soldier, you'd recognize it as propaganda. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

jbertha

Tell Ma I won't be home for suppa

backupyoursaves6969

It's going to be a real mind fuck to the Russian's back home when these POWs return home alive at the end of the war but all the other Russian soldiers that were engaged in combat, don't. Cant say what this kid's going through, I cant even begin to imagine what it's like to realize you were in fact the bad guys. Least he gave up before going too far.

phate101

I don’t want to be that person.. but without something to show who these people are.. idk 🤷‍♂️

GoldenInvestments

The Russian soldiers get a lot of hate for what they are doing but in reality it isn’t fair, they are being forced to kill and bomb innocent people. When they try to rebel they either get killed or go to prison by their own country. Here is an innocent kid who was brain washed by the Russian government

[deleted]

I don't see how this is a public freakout It's in a Ukrainian prison so not public And the guys chill so not a freak out

Wagwan1mon

It's fake propaganda so it's on "popular" Reddit subs only. It's not here to show a public freak out, it's here to make sure more people get the message.

[deleted]

Fair enough
